Thanks for the shoutout, John. I’m glad you didn’t refer to my new illustrations as “terrible but charming.” (Whew - dodged a bullet there. 🤣) I’m always happy to contribute to your content however possible. It’s nice that my collection is being utilized in some fashion other than taking up space in my home. And I certainly appreciate the quality of your work and the exposure you bring to the Sea-Monkey brand and to life’s little aquatic miracles of nature in general. Out of all the new packaging art that will be coming out later in 2023, I’m the most excited to see the upcoming MagiQuarium product for sale. It’s the most in-line with the direction I think the packaging should take in general - more emphasis on the logo and the fanciful characters and less “little elements” watering down what should be the focus. Thanks again, John. Excellent video with tons of fun and interesting information. -- Tod
Lucky for you I’m actually a fan of your artistic style, Tod 😂 it’s a damn sight better than what’s on the current box lol Glad to hear you enjoyed the video; it feels good to have another one ticked off my ever-growing list. Hey Mr Machin, sorry to bother you like this. I'm a security officer at a casino in the states, I noticed a while back that the casino has a few amazing live sea monkeys slot machines and I've been wondering for a long while now if you did the artwork for those machines? Again sorry to bother you through a yt comment section but I've had it on my mind for so long and I wasn't sure how to (or even if I should) contact you.
Don't feel bad about you opening them, you're allowing all of us to experience opening them with you, and we wouldn't have that experience without videos like this. It's not just about how we couldn't because of the prices of some of these as you mentioned, the main reason is theres a limited amount that have been produced, and there's just not enough of them left for us all to open one. So you're helping us, your viewers, by providing us with opening experiences like this.
14:25 adding the 3d printed lids to your shop is a great idea, there seems to be so much potential for modding these existing tank designs as well. I thought the modded volcano zoos you and others have shared are very neat too
Roughly 5 years ago I started getting really interested in spiders, which led to arachnids in general, which led to invertebrates etc. Now here I am raising sea monkeys for the first time since I was 8. Love your videos John. Very fun and informative!

the glow in the dark sticker is a really cool idea, a sticker fully covering one side would be fun i think even if it sacrifices some visibility in the daytime
I'd definitely love a lid that allows for accessories. Had to cut out part of the side of my Ocean Zoo tank's lid to ensure the USB cable could get through without getting caught on other animals in the house, and it's only enough for a heater - no air pump for these little guys. I've never even seen a MagiQuarium before this and I kind of love them. Something about the eerie glow combined with the gracefulness of the sea monkeys just... works.
@@pico-cosmos Looking forward to being able to get one of those! A lot of these tanks'd be so much better served if they were just a tiny bit bigger. Maybe one day...
I love your thoughtful, completed, and well-edited videos without gimmicks. You have been immensely helpful in keeping my original tank (started 18 June) thriving! I just started the Executive Suite on 28 July. I like how the oldest version glows the greatest (and will continue to, even with algae covering the bottom), but I don't like the fact that most of the back is covered because I do like to turn it around and watch from either side as mine are sometimes more active on one side rather than the other. I am interested in buying a 3D-printed lid with an access port...Currently, I am able to fit an air hose through one of the square holes in the lid, but to have a heater in there I have to keep the lid ajar, which causes more evaporation and salt on the outside.
Thanks Sophia :) where’d you get your executive set from? I have one in my collection but havent got around to making a video for it yet 😅 My 3D printed lid will have 4 notches to accommodate all your accessories, so it should work well :)
I really do like the oldest tank the best, that one has the best glow in the dark "wow!" factor to it! And it is pretty crazy to see where it has come with the newer one. Love the video as always!❤
Nice glow feature and top lid with more air vents. At first, I thought the Sea Monkeys would be glowing, but it's only the tank itself. Great video, thanks!
An intriguing concept. I really wonder how the company comes up with the different ideas for the tanks, because they seem so varied and different from one another. I really like the look of the mountain in the first edition, I think that design for the glow in the dark was the best!
Love the idea of the 3d printed lids. Thinking of buying some glow in the dark stickers for my tanks 😄an illuminated backdrop looks so cool! Great job as always John xxx
I have the 2023 version and today or tommorow I have to put in the instant life “egg” packet. I can’t wait to see these things grow in their glow - in - the - dark aquarium!
yay! i was waiting for you to make this video because i couldn't figure out the huge difference between this and the ocean zoo. super cool to see the changes made over the years as well; I wish they still sold the original edition with the sticker on the back!

Great video John, I always enjoy them. What do you all think if the company that makes these offered a build your own kit option. Offer four different bases, with different textured bottoms and then four different lids, with lights or openings to feed your Sea Monkeys. Then when you choose what you want from their site they ship it to you and you do a little DIY assembly at home. IDK I think it would be cool.
It's definitely a great idea. Tod has drawn up concept illustrations for this sorta thing and pitched it to the brand.. they haven't done anything with it though :/
This is the tank that got me back into sea monkeys. I can't remember what I was looking for on Amazon when I came accross it, but I am a sucker for glow in the dark and the memory of wanting sea monkeys as a kid made me buy it. Sadly, I don't think I got some good eggs because after over a week only one sea monkey hatched. But that was what brought me to this channel so I guess it's all good. I did not realize the lid came apart in three sections.
A 3D printed lid sounds interesting. A couple months back I had an Aquadragon tank that had a decent glow feature with the click of a button (ran on batteries).
Wow! I’ve not long found your channel and I’m addicted! I’ve brought myself an ocean zoo but haven’t had luck so far! But I’m going to keep trying and definitely keep watching your videos for tips
@@pico-cosmos That’s brilliant! I’ll keep my eyes out! If I’m not seeing any life soon I’m going to binge watch your other tip videos and order a refill to try again! C:
In 2015 a friend gift me the MagiQuarium, the Kit is from 2012 and the box art is different from the ones you showed. I started the MagiQuarium 3 months ago, at first only 5 sea-monkeys grow up to adults, 4 males and 1 female. I do not know why the female turned red when growing, the 4 males have already died and yesterday my little red sea-monkey die. My MagiQuarium is fine, before die my little-red sea-monkey left me a lot of babies. Now I have about 10 or more sea-monkeys that are fine and they are growing, I didn't expect much from a 2012 kit. I love this glow in the dark aquarium!
Ah I assume that's the MagiQuarium from Big Time Toys? I didn't mention it in this video, but I believe that tank is the same as the blister card version from Exploratoy that I showed. Amazing that your old eggs still hatched!
Id like to see a video where you talk more about what to do when a colony is failing or has failed I used to have a colony with plenty of algae in it, but every time my sea monkeys spawned, the babies would quickly die a couple of days laters, now i have an empty tank with thiving algae in it, im not sure if i should just add a new egg packet or if i should discard the water and start from zero
Hey I’m back do you remember me I’ve been long time fan subbed since about 11k so great to watch your channel grow sorry I haven’t been here in a while but still love your vids😊❤🎉
Great so happy u remember me my channel was originally called it’s just about cubing but I changed my name for a reason I’m not sure but amazing to be back I’m not sure if u new but I’m a fellow kiwi always good to see kiwis on yt 🇳🇿
Maybe with the 3D printed lid it can include the light, air stone, and heater That way it doesn't make the sea monkey aquarium feel cramped/crowded. Otherwise a fully custom sea monkey aquarium with said features would be a route to go as well
I really hope they redesign the tank with all of your suggestions. Love the light as well. I’ll definitely be getting some tanks for my 3 granddaughters. My daughter throughly enjoyed hers when she was their age.
yay for the shop link! I've wanted the heater and pump (South Island here so the extra heat is needed haha) for a while and now I've got a way to support the channel and get the stuffs! Question however...why don't you sell any SeaMonkey kits in your store?
Great video John. You really showed the difference between the versions. The plastic on the new version looked a little cloudy, not sure why. The 3d printed tops is a great idea, I am hoping t get into 3d printing some items next year. I am also wondering about finding glow in the dark marterial to put in the back of a tank similar to the first version. That would be great for a night light version next to my bed.
Yeah good spot! I didn’t mention it in this video, but the clarity of the plastic is definitely better on the older tanks too 👌 I’ll look into making some glow in the dark tank stickers to put in my webstore
Wow! Thank you for finding these tanks and showing us how they look in use. My jaw dropped when I saw that 3-d printed lid with the light built in. Does the lid accommodate an air line and heater, too? I'm frankly a little bummed about true sea monkey tanks because they are so small. My first tank failed to thrive, and the last time I picked up the tank to look closely for any signs of life, after I set it back down I think the cable for the heater pulled on the tank just enough to knock it over. As much as the lid is an exciting idea, I do not think I would purchase it because I shy away from the true sea monkey tanks which are so small and easily knocked over. I suggest that the light have a switch for it so people wouldn't have to unplug it all the time. A timer would be nice, but I get that might be going beyond the scope of what you want to offer.
Yup! The lid has small notches to accommodate and airline and cables. A switch on the light would be a nice idea, I'm just going to try and keep costs down for now though to get a feel for how much people are interested in this kind of product. I have no clue at the moment 😅

It‘s look very cool. I love it and i love your videos. Thanks for it! ❤️
Thanks :) glad to hear you enjoyed the video
I can’t believe that I believed that the sea-monkeys would glow not just the tank
Cool tank and great video!
I do like the darker blue color of this tank!
Check out my video titled "how to keep your Sea-Monkeys alive" - it covers this topic :)
Hey I’m back do you remember me I’ve been long time fan subbed since about 11k so great to watch your channel grow sorry I haven’t been here in a while but still love your vids😊❤🎉
Ah yes you commented on my Tic Tac Aquarium video and my Explor-A-Sub video! Thanks for supporting the channel mate! 🇳🇿
Great so happy u remember me my channel was originally called it’s just about cubing but I changed my name for a reason I’m not sure but amazing to be back I’m not sure if u new but I’m a fellow kiwi always good to see kiwis on yt 🇳🇿
Maybe with the 3D printed lid it can include the light, air stone, and heater
That way it doesn't make the sea monkey aquarium feel cramped/crowded. Otherwise a fully custom sea monkey aquarium with said features would be a route to go as well
wow, you’ve grown so much, when i subscribed you had a mere 500 or so subs!
Thanks for being an OG subscriber!
I really hope they redesign the tank with all of your suggestions. Love the light as well. I’ll definitely be getting some tanks for my 3 granddaughters. My daughter throughly enjoyed hers when she was their age.
Bro you make amazing content and thanks for making amazing content for everyone I appreciate it I watched every video from you 😊
🙏
yay for the shop link! I've wanted the heater and pump (South Island here so the extra heat is needed haha) for a while and now I've got a way to support the channel and get the stuffs! Question however...why don't you sell any SeaMonkey kits in your store?
🙌 thanks! I only set up the webstore recently. I’ll have a word to the Sea-Monkey peeps and see if I can organise getting them stoked in my shop 👍
I absolutely love your videos! Because of you I want to have my own sea monkey aquariums when I move out!!
Genuine fascination!
Seriously your video are always so engaging and informative. c:
Thanks! :D
Would love this tank. The older ones seem better for glo in the dark.
I have a magiquarium and the glow is beautiful and the hole on top like you said is really useful
Love the first edition of this tank the most! Wonder what inspired them to make the tank lid in 3 separate pieces, that's a really nice touch!
This was just delightful!
