The fact that our 2019 Grand Caravan is smaller, hold more people, have the best in class Stow N Go, and is much cheaper with 500 miles of range is just nuts.
Gentlemen, VW make a minivan PHEV. Check out the european specifications offered. VW offer a 1.5 Lt gasoline front wheel drive with a PHEV option. They use the MEB platform shared with the Golf. 7 seats, with all the rear seats, folding and removable.
The I.D. Buzz should be starting in the mid $40k range. It goes 230 miles max on a charge in optimal conditions. There are performance EV's with way more power and range that cost less. There are other 3 row EV's at a similar price with more range. The only reason to buy an I.D. Buzz is for nostalgia or for it's looks.
This vehicle really lost it's luster once the reviewers started scrutinizing the practical features. It has more vital drawbacks than felt lined dampened glove boxes and the sound of the door when it is close.
Maybe, just maybe, VW will launch a PHEV version of it but marketed as SCOUT instead. The reason I'm suggesting this is SCOUT is very much into PHEVs, more even than BEVs.
They already offer a PHEV on the minivan with a 1,500cc gasoline motor and a electric only range of 60 miles. It is a totally different model, with seven seats, the rear two rows are foldable and removable.
Liked your presentation of the ID Buzz. Interesting modern VW twist on an iconic vehicle from yesteryear. I was a college student in 1970 and owned a 1967 VW bus that had a California camper van conversion very similar to the German Westfalia. Love it and still to this day kick myself for selling it! What is different today is that the average college student couldn't afford this modern interpretation of this once affordable van. What you and other automotive channels have commented on is affordability from time to time. I think the industry as a whole has gone too far into a market that excludes certain income ranges and along with the banking industry has created a financial monster debt to value ratio cycle that seems to perpetuate itself every 15 years or so. This dark side of this industry is very under reported. Love your channels. Keep up the great reporting and awesome reviews.
I wonder if the slot on the outside top corner of the backrest is where you put the male end of the seat belt for the back seat to keep it in a reachable position.
Not many people are in the market for a Minivan with a 215 mile range. When it comes to trading VW, you’re in for a much bigger loss compared to the Cybertruck.
# of times Roman cuts off Tommy with blah blah....I lost count at 12. Take a gander at Best and Worst Cars '24 where Roman prevents Tommy from completing a thought with rapid fire interruptions ha ha hilarious
It would be easy to turn the ID Buzz into a camping van because it has a sunroof, so you don't need to cut a hole in the roof. Just remove the sunroof and attach a pop-up rooftop tent to the roof rack with a waterproof seal, and you will have a camping version.
It's an awesome vehicle ! The little rear windows may help with wind buffer when you have the front windows open. Remove 3rd and 2nd row to maximize space for car-camping
Roman $60,000 dollars is reasonable? VW doesn’t have the best track record on reliability. But with pot being legal, paint flowers and road trips it 😵💫🤘🤘😂
Great and very informative video. If this was a hybrid, I would be interested in hauling small loads and keeping those loads dry and easy to get in and out of the vehicle.
A great car for $70k that you have to worry about range anxiety, seat belt is dumb, agreed. Poorly designed. They left it as the euro model since no 3rd row in EU. No snow tires available. 😂 They missed the mark on this bit making a ICE version. I would’ve bought one but EV or no hybrid @VW, you missed the mark. Clearly. An over-engineered vehicle. Cup holders are silly. UX of screen is poor, haptic controls are pathetic. Windows. Overthinking. Phone wireless chargers are bad? Never an issue with my ‘24 Santa Fe with wireless charging pads. Much more tech for 25k less. No better of a vehicle. I get 500 miles till empty.
A lot of neat features. A solid predictable 200 mile range will give you confidence on road "trips". 300 mile range is my ideal range when road tripping and charging to 80%.
There are snow rated tires available in those sizes and for that load capacity. From what I could find you just have one option, but I wouldn't be surprised if more come out in the future. The tires are: Vredestein Quatrac Pro+
Very thorough tour! Well done. I still can't get over the range, though. It's at least 100 miles too low. The payload should be at least a few hundred pounds more. And the fact that there are currently no winter tires that would work is unacceptable.
@TFLtalk I must admit, despite its flaws I really like the vehicle. I wish I could afford one. I'm glad you guys snagged one and are putting it through its paces.
Funny how Everybody is always talking about range on these electric vehicles and think 230 miles is not enough. Anyway, just for some perspective, I have a ram 5500 flatbed tow truck and it has a wheel lift on the back also and because of that wheel lift, the outfitters have to order the chassis without the rear 56 gallon tank that Ram offers. Now with that being said, I do have the midship tank which is 22 gallons. So with the average driver, these trucks only get about 10 miles per gallon so therefore this truck can only go about 220 miles on a tank of fuel. I personally, because of the way I drive can get closer to 300 miles on a tank. But that’s pretty rare unless I’m on a long trip. Anyhow, my point is yes I have to plan out my trips keeping an eye on my fuel gauge so I don’t run out of fuel. But I run around doing tows all day long here in the Phoenix Valley and as long as I pay attention to my fuel gauge, it’s never really a big issue that I don’t have a lot of range on this truck. So I guess my point is you don’t really need to worry about your range unless like you guys said you’re on a road trip and even then obviously you’ll just have to plan out where you can stop to charge. It is what it is. And with this vehicle you’re having fun and you occasionally have to stop and charge it every now and then, totally worth it. If I could afford one I would buy one. 😊
I love the styling, the cheerful colors and the cargo. It’s the world’s first cool minivan. But for my uses and for my money, I’d go for the EV 9. About the same size, more horsepower, more range, more buttons and knobs, very little haptic nonsense, a sunroof that opens and on the trim I’d get, a bench seat in the second row. I test drove one today and it’s great. They are readily available for a lot less than MSRP so more affordable than the ID. Hate to be a Buzz kill. Wish VW would stop with all the touch controls. How about some nice retro knobs?
Isn't the point of battery vehicles is that they're supposed to be more economical? As this as example, I dont see it. You could have put the VW 2.0 diesel in there and get 40 mpg highway, and perhaps 500 miles per tank. And of course the price would be around $45K.
Not a fan of EV’s but I could see this as a run about if you’re a city dweller. If you live out west we’re things are spread out in many states it’s a no go with that range even if you have home charger.
Because modern cars don't get 250 miles of range, and they don't take an hour to refill.

Look the VW EV'S Buzz is perfect for us in California 200 miles on the road at 70 mph is perfect and I want one but will wait till VW gets use of the Tesla charging system..
Great range....if you live on Gilligan's island
🤣🤣🤣
The fact that our 2019 Grand Caravan is smaller, hold more people, have the best in class Stow N Go, and is much cheaper with 500 miles of range is just nuts.
Interesting point of comparison. $70K for ID BUZZ can also buy you a top of the line Honda Odyssey and 200K miles equivalent of gas (lifetime).
$72,000 for a van with 200 miles of range. These things are going to depreciate like crazy.
That’s why you lease it.
@@JohnSmith-uz3dt someone has to pick up the tab, you realise this, right? Google Enron.
Good. I'd love to get one.
Which is fine. This thing would be an awesome commuter when it's 15k.
@@kabloosh699😂😂😂 that would be a fair price
Glad you got rid of the cyber truck, and this is much better
Guys, the black items located on the interior sides are dividers that grip on the mats.
Love this.
coolest thing ever. you guys should go camping in it.
Apps for cars are great. I have it on my 2019 F-150.

Fantastic design, styling and materials.. Battery 50% too small.. Maybe just needs a turbo 4
Thanks for watching. They will likely improve the range in the next few years.
Really like to know if it can haul 4x8 sheet material.
If it was a gas or diesel vehicle I'd buy one in a heartbeat
Mazda should learn from this and bring back the 5 or MPV with the option of fuel efficient performance leaning hybrid and long range EV.
It needs 100 miles more range or a $15k discount. Either one of those and it would sell. As it stands now they won't move many.
TFL should do a Doodlebops spoof in it
Gas engine: Subaru, flat 4, turbo; rear mounted.
That ID Buzz is far out man! ☮️ …hopefully someday soon there will be an ID Beetle too.
This vehicle has literally nothing to offer over other options. It's just trendy, that's it.
This vehicle really lost it's luster once the reviewers started scrutinizing the practical features. It has more vital drawbacks than felt lined dampened glove boxes and the sound of the door when it is close.

Ja, Dutch Company Ventje is offering pop up roof IDBuzz camper’s already in Europe.
Peace Vans out of Seattle WA is working on a pop top roof but offers camper conversions for these now.

Try the Continental WinterContact. At least out here in Germany they are available for the ID Buzz (Bulli) and there are some other as well.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.
With a Chrysler Pacifica you can have a completely flat floor. Much more storage area. Plus a more stylish vehicle.
And they are dirt cheap to buy.
And it doesn't weigh as much either.
