I love this song. You'll find that for some it is not as popular. It's one of their "radio" songs - more mainstream and a radio hit. For me though, I love the part you rewatched - the tin whistle, Floor shouting out Empuu, the solo, the heys, the crowd surfing. From there to the end I can't help but get a little emotional always. Love the sign too. So fitting. I feel like due to that it is a thank you song to Nightwish for me, for the same reasons, I guess. It's a really good one. I love her voice always also. Thanks for checking it out!
Enjoying your reactions Nikki - I agree NW is a beautiful combination of heavy but melodic, and it’s Tuomas’ arrangement of all the instruments that sets it apart from other bands.
A Tarja era song, from the 2004 album, Once. Troy is playing an Irish Low Whistle here, it is an addition to the studio version, as he didn't start playing with Nightwish until 2007. Troy does have a Tin Whistle, but it is smaller than the Low Whistle. Yes ,Troy is the one who played the Uilleann pipes. Nemo is Latin for No Name or nobody. Yes, the song is about being lost, not knowing where to go or what to do. One of my favorites in Tarja's voice.
An Irish Low Whistle. Hm 🤔 Thanks for clearing that up and also saying when he started paying with them. I was wondering if he was always with the group.
@@nikkireviews Troy started with Nightwish in 2007, in studio and some gigs, as a visitor you could say. He became a permanent member after this Wacken 2013 concert, just like Floor. It was Pip Williams from the London Philharmonic Orchestra who said to Troy he should listen to Nightwish, and obviously told Nightwish about Troy. Pip is the one who arranges the music - that Tuomas writes and plays with synthesizer - for the whole orchestra on the backing track Nightwish has. You can not play everything with a synth, so Pip makes it fit for the whole orchestra. I highly recommend you watch: Nightwish - Making of new album Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015), episode 8, where Nightwish visits The Angel Studios in London. It's not a long video. This was the 1st Nightwish album with Floor, and written for her voice. In one of the episodes Floor said the album challenged her lower register as well.
I agree w Chris O... must hear Tarja sing this. But equally as beautiful is the *acoustic* version of this song with just Troy on guitar and Floor's bell-clear voice...Live at Planet Rock. They play one other song in that session, 'How's the Heart?' And that is also very very good!
Hi Nikki, great reaction, and I'm glad you enjoyed this one. It's an older song... keep in mind, all the songs on this set list (world tour), were written for Anette and Tarja. Floor, Nightwish, and their Army just got the biggest blessing of their lives when they called her, wouldn't you agree? Can you even imagine what this concert would've been like with another singer? The timing was just perfect! Looking forward to the rest of the show. 😁 Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤️🤘🤘
Thank you! And yes I agree, I haven't heard anything from the previous singer of nightwish, but I really can't imagine any of these songs without floor!😮
@@nikkireviews Yes, amd she's such a beautiful, beautiful human being. I know this is a bit much to ask with all the reactions going on for you already, but have you been in Floor's TH-cam channel? She has so many videos and livestreams she recorded for her fans during the pandemic lockdown. That's actually the main reason she started doing covers... She was feeling anxious because of the covid travel bans and so their Human Nature world tour was non existent for the better part of 2 years. Anyway, If you could do reactions to the videos she uploaded, she put them in series. Saturday Storytime, Floor Fan Fridays, Floor Finds and in one of her livestreams her husband Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer for Sabaton, pops in to say hi. I'll just leave it up to you to decide if you want to watch them as reaction videos or on your personal time. Either way, you are going to fall in love even more with this absolutely amazing woman. See you soon. 😊❤️🤘🤘
I love this song by Nightwish with Floor doing it as my favorite but I also like the original with Tarja as well. But there's another version that is not done by Nightwish but was done on the Beste Zangers 2019 Dutch TV show. It was done by Tim Akkerman, who is a Dutch Singer/Songwriter/Musicain that sang it to Floor on that show. It's easy to find on TH-cam and Tim increased the tempo to get it within the time limitations and to make it sound a little more straight up Rock and Roll. Needless to say Floor LOVED it. Tim was the only one on the show that year that actually knew who Floor Jansen was. He knew her from her days with After Forever when he was with another Dutch group called Di-Rect. Floor also did her solo version of the song Shallow on this show but then Tim asked her to do the song again with him as a duet like it was in the movie 'A Star Is Born'. I like it better than the Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper version from the movie. Even if you don't react to these two songs from Beste Zangers you should certainly take a listen. Actually every song on Beste Zangers that year was a winner to me as there were seven great Dutch musical artist, including Henk Poort who also did 'The Phantom of the Opera' with Floor there on the show as the final song of that season. You're doing well here young lady. Keep up the good work!
This song is legendary on its own right , and this song was my first Nightwish song that I heard back in 2004 . Also this song can be heard in the ending credits of the 2005 film "The Cave". Tuomas Holopainen has stated that the title is Latin for "nobody" or "no name" and the song is based on his occasional feelings of being lost, longing for the past and feeling nameless. AND ,....in 2022 Floor added 15 sec. Belt note at the end of this song. Here is a link , Enjoy : Floor Jansen makes her own HISTORY ! 15 Seconds of F5 Belt - Nemo (4/5/2022) th-cam.com/video/9D9jdqEkxYo/w-d-xo.html. And I experienced this song last year Live also. The only thing what I said then was : "Are You Kidding Me !!!!!" 😲. NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘 AND...New subscriber here !!!!!
Heya Nikki! Yes, Troy is playing the Low Whistle, which is just a variation of the Tin or Pennywhistle, it is larger and has a deeper sound. Also, for a fun listen/comparison, when Floor was on the Dutch music show Beste Zangers in 2019, one of the other singers, Time Akkerman, did a cover of Nemo for her as more of a radio/pop-rock style. th-cam.com/video/aRu-2tWzRf8/w-d-xo.html
This one is Nightwish' biggest hit single. How is that for a commercial Nightwish song made for radio airplay. It does sound a little like a recorder. Called a low or tin whistle. BTW - Nemo is not a song about finding a small colorful fish. Nemo is Latin for nobody. Thus a person without a name. It is all about finding yourself when you lose your way in life. Great stuff again Nikki! See you again very soon. So much more to experience.
Hey Nikki, great reaction as always. For the instrument which is played by Troy, in this case it is not exactly a tin whistle, but a low whistle (which is a tin whistle, but with a lower notation)
if you like the "rocking but gentle" thing, you have to react to Dead Boy's Poem from live from Buenos Aires in 2018. They didn't play that song in the Showtime/Storytime concert you've been running through... so maybe after you're done with this concert. DBP is my all-time fav NW song... and as you're learning they have a lot of music to love, so that's really saying something! :)
Hello Nikki! The instrument Troy is playing belongs to the flute family and is 'the big brother' of the tin whistle (which sounds a lot higher), called the low whistle.
Floor initiates such a presence with every aspect of her being! One of the most beautiful people, in and out, and just mesmerizing to watch.💗 If you watch the actual music video of Nemo, with Tarja, all your magical/nature comments will come to light. 🙂
Thats exactly what i felt about Floor too, from the first time i heard her. No matter how much i love other singers, Floors voice is special and i can never tire of it or her. I started out a "Tarja guy" but Floor showed me something much better and versatile. Jukka aka The Pirate always loved to spin thoose drumsticks, and he never missed a beat! I do miss him alot, although Kai is a drum machine. Jukka just gave Nightwish that sparkle from the back, with his energy, passion, crowd interaction and showmanship🤩💞
The song is based on the Jules Verne novel '10000 leagues under the sea' with Captain Nemo (the man with no name) on his submarine 'The Nautilus' on his quest to search for his true self. Tuomas identified himself with the character as he was searching and longing for the innocence he felt in his childhood which he expressed in so many of his songs,
Following the set list I Want My Tears Back should be the next song. Since you've already reacted to the Wacken 2013 performance I'd like to request you checkout the Buenos Aires 2015 performance of the same song next. It's my favorite performance of I Want My Tears Back.
Great reaction. Like Everdream, this song has an iconic piano intro that fans instantly recognize. Originally a Tarja song and one that she really shines on. The official music video with her is my favorite but the live version from the End of an Era concert is awesome as well. There are so many great versions of this song done in different styles that it is a real testament to Tuomas's songwriting skills. You should also checkout Floor and Troy doing an acoustic version on Planet Rock, Floor's stripped down slower version from her solo concert in Amsterdam in 2021, and her amazing performance at Hellfest last summer where she holds an F5 belt for what feels like forever.
Tin whistle is normally the shorter aka higher sounding whistle. IN this song Troy plays longer aka lower "Low Whistle" it's in family of tin whistles but plays 1 octave lower and has really nice and moody tone. Low D whistle is typical one. The fingering is the same as in tin whistle but the holes are further apart so the fingers needs to be set more like in bag pipes.
wow I'm impressed by your reaction, your is very cute and has a fun personality. nice to see you guys.
