I really like the direction you're taking the story telling. Soo many what if channels take the quick and easy route with a simple retelling of events as they'd transpire if xyz happened. However, MasakoX made me fall in love with these kinds of videos because he told a real story and didn't skimp on the details. Heck his What if Raditz Turned Good series and spinoffs are a huge amount of content in themselves. So it's great to see other channels really showing their writing skills. Advice you might like: Rewatching an episode or two around the same timeline as the what if can be a helpful refresher on how the characters behaved at the time. Remember that Goku is forgiving to a fault and lets his guard down a lot, and that Toriyama made an action comedy not just action. The serious moments are the best, but being able to unwind with some classic Toriyama humor in peace time moments really helps remind us why these characters fight and train so hard to protect their world. Be BRAVE, write character to character dialogue that fits their spirit, but is in a non-canonical context so you have to let your artistic liberties and creativity shine. For instance, the next part of this what if could have a heart to heart between Gohans so they can reach an understanding rather than just gradually change their interactions to imply not future Gohan is fine now instead of a shown conclusion to that character development
You guys do a great job of marrying in-depth character analysis and fantastic storytelling, loaded with juicy and engaging content. If this is the direction things are headed in, I'd say the future is looking bright! Can't say the same for Gohan's future though..
Wait, a stronger Future Gohan has trouble with Frieza and Cold? Trunks, who was as Powerful as Gohan was when he got beaten by the Androids, literally 1 shot them
I only have one issue with this what if Bulma would never blame Gohan for trunks dying? She knew how impulsive her son was, she knew the threat that was looming, she saw her partner die, her best friend's died, she knew that this was part of the reality of the (future) timeline, and she would have known that Gohan would have done anything and everything to protect trunks.
Still watching this but I gotta say, the only part I take issue with is Freeza getting merked by young Gohan. He would never be that strong in a million years or he would've been able to take him in canon. Just not enough power to put out. The premise is great though so I am continuing as I type to watch the rest.
Trunks should have kept freiza’s ship and have Bulma copy the technology .. The Z fighters could have used the healing capsules to get more zenki boosts.
If Future Gohan didn't die that day, he would be definitely stronger than Trunks when he fought Freezer. He would defeat both Freezer and Cold (at the same time) in the blink of an eye even without an arm.

Exactly. And Cold wouldn't have done anything, as he didn't with Trunks in cannon. And Z-fighter would've stayed where they were, observing. And Cold would've been wise enough to take the chance and leave, especially after seeing Freeza destroyed.
Trunks 3 years after Gohan's Death was also stating that he is as Powerful as Gohan was Meanwhile Post Yardrat Goku is superior to him, so Gohan didn't really know Goku's Full Power Heck per statements for the TV-Special, Gohan in his Final Battle was stronger then both Andtoids together, so if Goku had survive dthe Heart Virus and 17 and 18 were as they were, then Goku would definitly beat them

About Cold, well, presumably based on Frieza's transformation, he was on his 2nd form, and Trunks easily killed him. Had he transformed to his final form? Who knows. I'd still put my chips on Trunks even then, unless Cold trained, but he didn't, and had his 2nd form (tallest, most intimidating looking one) as a showcase of his rulership (being a King).
When Gohan died it was my interpretation that he was roughly as strong as Goku was at the start of the Android fight -- around 200 million give or take -- strong enough to handle one of the weaker Androids of his time, but not for both. After the intensive, self-flagellating training he undertook as penance for Trunks's death I would have imagined he'd be able to immediately body Frieza and King Cold. All in all, I at least expected him to be on par with Trunks when he would have arrived, if not a bit stronger. That said, holy crap, this scenario is awesome.
Part of training (both irl and in db) is about resting. My interpretation is that he just trained without rest basically torturing himself. So he had basically no gains and exhausted fighting to powers relative to namek ssj goku
In the Manga 17 says he had only ever fought with half his power, then Gohan dies off-screen so the future Cyborgs probably aren't actually weaker just Trunks thought they were because he never saw them even giving half-effort compared to them fighting in the past.

For context: Alternate version of Future Gohan who appeared in the ongoing anime short survived, but still with one arm as both Bulma & Trunks perish in his place by the cyborgs. Since then, he hid from society in immense guilt. It's not answered whether the evil twins in his timeline were defeated. But he was chosen by the first Supreme Kai of Time Aieos to help her erase nearly every timelines until one is spared. He was powered up by a mysterious red aura as he reveals his identity to an alternate Future Trunks. Fighting until the ladder won & told him that hope is never lost for him. Gohan eventually snapped out of his pessimism & rejoined the heroes. Even going to Goku and Bardock to win the beam clash against Demigra as he finally unlocks Super Saiyan 2.
My thoughts exactly Gohan semi kept up with the androids which are much much stronger than the frost demons yet he still faces difficulties against them. Kinda odd isnt it
Gohan should be more than enough to handle both of them with on arm like he had done way better fighting the androids when he had lost his arm dope video tho 👍🏽

I doubt it considering He said Trunks was already close to surpassing him pretty early on in their training. That and Gohan raised his power to what he thought was near 17's power only to find out 17 was nowhere near it. Also if you remember Gohan had little fighting experience and he did not have the fundamentals to train on his own properly let alone teach Considering most of his training was survival with piccolo And a few sparing matches with krillian and potential unlocked by guru and a few Zenkais Without the warning from Trunks it would have been 3 years of peace so no need to train Then everyone died and Gohan spent most of the time running and some fighting So that is why I say he was weaker Because he didn't know how to train alone imo

@genericwhitemale9566 is that in the manga and anime? Either way my argument works for why a Gohan who's been fighting for a decade or more couldn't beat the Androids I only modified for this scenario in all fairness
@@exia7777 The manga version of the special I'm not entirely sure but I think it is. It definitely happened in the anime version though. I'm pretty sure the anime version is the canon version anyways as the DBS manga uses the anime version of events as it shows Teen Future Trunks in flashbacks as not being able to go Super Saiyan while in the manga he was able to go Super Saiyan before Gohan died.
I think the loss of trunks would make gohan go into ssj 2 I mean sure he did not get to train in the time chamber with his father but he trained for a much longer period of time in his own which is almost just as good and the trauma from losing trunks who he personally trained for years and saw him grow from a small baby to a fighter and a friend would be far greater than losing C 16 in the main time-line and push him to transform into ssj 2.
He doesn't have the base power, so he just couldn't. The whole thing for Future Gohan, is he destroyed his body basically. He overworked it, and stunted it's growth. That and Future Gohan likely didn't believe in himself

@@hoshiryu He wasnt a fighter, everyone in his time line is dead, he had no master to train, of course he has a great potential but he doesnt realy knows how to properly train, without real masters like goku, piccolo and even master roshi, gohan probably just didnt had any real training to get any descent power up, he didnt even had any good place to train since he wasnt aware about the time chamber. Just think about trunks, he trained basicaly all his life under gohan and wasnt stronge enough to fight against the future androis who are stated to be weaker than the present ones, and then in only one year of training under vegeta in the time chamber trunks was not only able to easily destroy those weaker past droids, he was also able to easily beat second form cell who as considerably more powerfull than the stronger present droids. It isnt about gohans potential, just like trunks he just didnt had what he needed to explore his power, wich is a shame cuz future gohan had the mentality to be realy unstopable if he had the oportunities present gohan had.
This one was phenomenal. I think either you or chimp are the best what if tubers on the site, and especially when you join forces. Great job smugstick! Lots of twists and turns I wasn't expecting that made for a really captivating video. I think using the mecha frieza fight to highlight the differences between trunks and gohan was a brilliant idea
Interesting how different this is from what if Trunks died instead, whether this was a conscious remake or not. Imperfect Cell Max has potential to become a Z fighter given Hedo wanted to make a hero and he says he wants to battle Gohan, not kill. But he did absorb a city, almost Gohan, and almost the androids so either Gero reprogramed him or tricked him into thinking he's doing good by absorbing the city? Wonder how canon Cell knows about Cell Max

Future Gohan meeting up with his family and friends is really touching! He's finally no longer fighting alone, and he finally gets the chance to improve. Everyone's warm welcome and Chi-chi's grief over his lost arm... I just can't imagine how touched he'd feel at that moment. I kind of wish this was how the story would go except Future Bulma's grudge.
Here's the only thing that confuses me about the whole initial appearance. In the anime, those who know how to sense Ki are ALWAYS able to recognize the ki of their allies. Like "Oh, that's Piccolo" or Gohan or Krillin or whomever. I can maybe understand Gohan himself not making the connection but how can Piccolo and Krillin in particular not instantly tell it's somehow Gohan even if they can't grasp how?
Ok in this one there more brutal and mean than normally intended. Bulma basically sent Gohan to his doom and said to hell with him in my opinion. And even kid Gohan being bitter rubs me the wrong way.😅
These are probably the best visuals, sound mixing, and overall effects that you've had on this channel. This must have taken a loong time but the time spent here was clearly worth it!! Honestly probably my favourite vid to have come from this channel
Future gohan could take on one of the androids at a time before he died, so to stack 5 more years of training on top of that, it doesn’t make sense for him to be so weak coming to the past.
This version of the mecha Frieza fight makes absolutely no sense. Gohan should have mopped the floor with Frieza even harder than Trunks did. But beyond that, Gohan DEFINITELY would have remembered whether Goku showed up to defeat Frieza. Future Gohan did not need to jump in, as a smart individual capable of being a scholar, he’d understand what further interference in time could cause. And he was there to see Goku defeat Frieza a second time
Great job with the Bulma bit, Bulma blaming Gohan, and being in grief is expected, in other what ifs where trunks dies yet Gohan lives, Bulma reaction tends to be lacking at least from the ones I've seen
Yeah but you gotta admit, it was out of character for her to push Gohan out of her life out like that even if he was involved with the death of her son.
Even small details like the tardis sound effect for the time machine is why you're the goat. Only thing I dislike is that there isn't more content! Haha. But perfection has to cook and you need to live life too (: thanks for all your great stories dude!
1) Bulma is very uncharacteristically cruel to Gohan in the intro. She knows full well that Trunks is getting himself involved and that Gohan would do everything to protect him. If Trunks died, yeah she would be griefstricken, but she wouldn't blame Gohan and cut him out of her life. She cares about him a lot too. She wouldn't treat Goku that way, for example, in the same scenario, she would understand that he did everything he could. Not saying it wouldn't affect her, but refusing to talk to him for years and making his *_hopeful time machine message_* instead be a petty dig at him "screwing up" just seemed way overboard. 2) Why is Gohan here so much weaker than Trunks? Why does he have any trouble with Freeza or Cold when Trunks could oneshot either of them, with or without his sword? Even with his training being very bad due to him trying to emulate Goku instead of being himself, he should still be ridiculously far beyond Mecha Freeza, and thus also Cold. Bulma straight up tells Trunks not to be cocky as he's going back in time because he's only about as strong as Gohan was, and he doesn't refute that. Gohan really shouldn't have struggled. 3) Gero somehow editing his energy absorption in order to specifically target and ambiently drain the Super Saiyan energy is pretty cool. Don't understand why they were able to go Super Saiyan around him after that first scene, though. 4) I feel like Cell being complete, uh, *_17 years early_* is a lot and it should've still been 17 and 18, or gammas maybe, but it was cool. I liked seeing the OG appear to show up the "max" fake. Hearing his footsteps at the end just before he showed up was like hearing Darth Vader breathing just before a dramatic entrance.
This was ok, but towards the end was a bit of a stretch. Had this video been made a few years ago before the Super Hero movie, I feel like this narration would've went differently.
Damn.. Future Gohan was nerfed and you treated him pretty damn badly.. Bulma shoving him out of her life for Trunks’ Death feels way out of Character since She would know that Trunks would be involved regardless and she would understand Gohan didn’t want him to be involved.. also why the hell didn’t he kill Dr Gero? That’s also out of character since the Androids of his Timeline wrecked Havoc and I don’t see him sparring Gero and letting things like that continue. This What if is probably the most Inaccurate Story on the Channel and definitely needs a rewrite.
Even if its not explored too much in the anime, in the latest Ultra God Mission of SDBH, they showed what future gohan look like if he was survived and Trunks and Bulma are killed instead.

I noticed that the effects were way better then usual. while it is true that most people listen rather watch, the better effects gives a reason to watch and in my case helped me get into envisioning the scenes. Well done.
The message on the Time Machine ughhh…. The nickname is hilarious thoughhhh I’m not super fond of the foundation of the story, but it works! Gohan’s psychology is neat. Gohan discussing things with Bulma works so perfectly, too. The introduction of DBSSH elements was also fun!

Why did he struggle against frieza and king cold this should have been low diff at the very least Android 17 or even 18 alone would destroy then both with a couple of attacks. Yet, gohan can kill one of them on their own. The only reason he loses is because they both team up on him.
You forgot the androids were always holding back against him because they wanted to have fun. Right before they kill Gohan they say they were going less than 50%.
The flaw in this story is that Future Gohan IS stronger then Trunks period. The androids toyed with Trunks and Gohan was damaging them. Meanwhile Trunks didn't lay a finger on them until he returned after Cell got finished in the main timeline. So yeah other then that it's all cool but Future Gohan should have bodied both Frieza and Cold at this point either wayt.

This opening with Gohan holding dead Trunks reminded me of The Last of Us begining, very sad. I didn't expect Mirai Gohan to be this weak, to be point of having difficulties against Mecha Frieza and Cold.
What if Goku never landed on Earth? I know you done it already, but this was best what if in this topic I seen so far. I think, if you look a bit more into it could be a series not 1 parter. Lapis and Lazuli even weaker, if trained and potential unlock could grow nicely, they had big potential to grow and could defeat Cell, if he tried absorb them.

Oddly enough, we kinda got this in the recent Super Dragonball Heroes season. That version of Future Gohan joined the dark side, but then returned.

@@exia7777 The manga version of the special I'm not entirely sure but I think it is. It definitely happened in the anime version though. I'm pretty sure the anime version is the canon version anyways as the DBS manga uses the anime version of events as it shows Teen Future Trunks in flashbacks as not being able to go Super Saiyan while in the manga he was able to go Super Saiyan before Gohan died.

I think the loss of trunks would make gohan go into ssj 2 I mean sure he did not get to train in the time chamber with his father but he trained for a much longer period of time in his own which is almost just as good and the trauma from losing trunks who he personally trained for years and saw him grow from a small baby to a fighter and a friend would be far greater than losing C 16 in the main time-line and push him to transform into ssj 2.
He doesn't have the base power, so he just couldn't.
The whole thing for Future Gohan, is he destroyed his body basically. He overworked it, and stunted it's growth.
That and Future Gohan likely didn't believe in himself

@@hoshiryu He wasnt a fighter, everyone in his time line is dead, he had no master to train, of course he has a great potential but he doesnt realy knows how to properly train, without real masters like goku, piccolo and even master roshi, gohan probably just didnt had any real training to get any descent power up, he didnt even had any good place to train since he wasnt aware about the time chamber.
Just think about trunks, he trained basicaly all his life under gohan and wasnt stronge enough to fight against the future androis who are stated to be weaker than the present ones, and then in only one year of training under vegeta in the time chamber trunks was not only able to easily destroy those weaker past droids, he was also able to easily beat second form cell who as considerably more powerfull than the stronger present droids.
It isnt about gohans potential, just like trunks he just didnt had what he needed to explore his power, wich is a shame cuz future gohan had the mentality to be realy unstopable if he had the oportunities present gohan had.

Future Gohan meeting up with his family and friends is really touching! He's finally no longer fighting alone, and he finally gets the chance to improve. Everyone's warm welcome and Chi-chi's grief over his lost arm... I just can't imagine how touched he'd feel at that moment. I kind of wish this was how the story would go except Future Bulma's grudge.
Here's the only thing that confuses me about the whole initial appearance. In the anime, those who know how to sense Ki are ALWAYS able to recognize the ki of their allies. Like "Oh, that's Piccolo" or Gohan or Krillin or whomever. I can maybe understand Gohan himself not making the connection but how can Piccolo and Krillin in particular not instantly tell it's somehow Gohan even if they can't grasp how?

Future Gohan did not need to jump in, as a smart individual capable of being a scholar, he’d understand what further interference in time could cause. And he was there to see Goku defeat Frieza a second time

I'm gonna have to flag this channel for leaving such an epic cliffhanger...
1) Bulma is very uncharacteristically cruel to Gohan in the intro. She knows full well that Trunks is getting himself involved and that Gohan would do everything to protect him. If Trunks died, yeah she would be griefstricken, but she wouldn't blame Gohan and cut him out of her life. She cares about him a lot too. She wouldn't treat Goku that way, for example, in the same scenario, she would understand that he did everything he could. Not saying it wouldn't affect her, but refusing to talk to him for years and making his *_hopeful time machine message_* instead be a petty dig at him "screwing up" just seemed way overboard.
2) Why is Gohan here so much weaker than Trunks? Why does he have any trouble with Freeza or Cold when Trunks could oneshot either of them, with or without his sword? Even with his training being very bad due to him trying to emulate Goku instead of being himself, he should still be ridiculously far beyond Mecha Freeza, and thus also Cold. Bulma straight up tells Trunks not to be cocky as he's going back in time because he's only about as strong as Gohan was, and he doesn't refute that. Gohan really shouldn't have struggled.
3) Gero somehow editing his energy absorption in order to specifically target and ambiently drain the Super Saiyan energy is pretty cool. Don't understand why they were able to go Super Saiyan around him after that first scene, though.
4) I feel like Cell being complete, uh, *_17 years early_* is a lot and it should've still been 17 and 18, or gammas maybe, but it was cool. I liked seeing the OG appear to show up the "max" fake. Hearing his footsteps at the end just before he showed up was like hearing Darth Vader breathing just before a dramatic entrance.
This was ok, but towards the end was a bit of a stretch. Had this video been made a few years ago before the Super Hero movie, I feel like this narration would've went differently.
Damn.. Future Gohan was nerfed and you treated him pretty damn badly.. Bulma shoving him out of her life for Trunks’ Death feels way out of Character since She would know that Trunks would be involved regardless and she would understand Gohan didn’t want him to be involved.. also why the hell didn’t he kill Dr Gero? That’s also out of character since the Androids of his Timeline wrecked Havoc and I don’t see him sparring Gero and letting things like that continue. This What if is probably the most Inaccurate Story on the Channel and definitely needs a rewrite.
Even if its not explored too much in the anime, in the latest Ultra God Mission of SDBH, they showed what future gohan look like if he was survived and Trunks and Bulma are killed instead.

The flaw in this story is that Future Gohan IS stronger then Trunks period. The androids toyed with Trunks and Gohan was damaging them. Meanwhile Trunks didn't lay a finger on them until he returned after Cell got finished in the main timeline. So yeah other then that it's all cool but Future Gohan should have bodied both Frieza and Cold at this point either wayt.
