    Char siu, also known as Chinese bbq pork, is one of the most famous and delicious Chinese recipes. Watch the entire video to learn how to cook char siu pork.
    🥢 PRINTABLE RECIPE - check back later
    INGREDIENTS
    For the Char Siu Sauce:
    4 tbsp of honey
    2 tbsp of light soy sauce [Kimlan light Soy Sauce:geni.us/sPLnDA7]
    1 tbsp of Chinese cooking wine [Shaohsing Rice Cooking Wine: geni.us/3hdHAM]
    1 tbsp garlic chili sauce
    1 tbsp of oyster sauce [Lee Kum Kee Panda Brand oyster sauce: geni.us/P0u6]
    1 tbsp of hoisin sauce [Lee Kum Kee hoisin sauce: geni.us/30t9a]
    1/2 tsp of five spices [Amazon link: geni.us/G4yA9Z]
    2 tsp of dark soy sauce (color option)
    1 pieces of chinese soy bean curb (color option) [Amazon Link: geni.us/7wV1]
    1 tsp of red yeast rice powder (color option) [Amazon Link: geni.us/gbhJJT2]
    Simply mix them. There are many variations to this famous Chinese barbecue sauce, so if it's not perfect for you, adjust!

    Meat:
    3 pounds skinless pork belly or pork shoulder
    Tips:
    1. Cutting your pork in to 2 cm thick, it is easy to marinate and bake;
    2. Marinate the pork overnight or at least 10 hours;
    3. Adding some corn flour after marinating, is a traditional way to make char siu, which will lock the juice inside the meat and create a shining flavorful glaze
    Enjoy :)

    I tried this recipe and I do it once a week. It is amazing. Who needs any other recipes when you have this one. Also, I use the leftover juices, a touch of water and a dash of soy and add it to beansprout, then thicken - which gives the most amazing side dish. Thank You Mandy! Love you x

    OMG, I want to thank you for this amazing recipe in particular, & a slew of others, one of them (Taiwan-style Beef Noodle Soup 台灣牛肉麵) is in my slow cooker while still at work.
    Last week, I made the Char Siu (叉燒肉), crispy Roast Pork (燒肉) & Soy Chicken (醬油雞), every single one turned out better than I had expected! In fact, I'd go out on a limb and claim, my homemade 3-choice BBQ over rice ( 三拼叉燒。燒肉。醬油雞)+ blanched Bok Choy 燙青菜 was so good, with the braising liquid (滷汁) drizzled over the rice plate was Soo yummy & satisfying - it's way better than most Hong Kong- styles BBQ restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area!
    There are many TH-camr chefs, I think very few lend credibility the way you (your yummy recipes) have won me over
    感激!
    BTW, how do you get all the Asian ingredients from 8,000 feet? 😋😋😋

    Finally getting around to trying this. When I was in China , I developed a taste for the “knife cut” noodles that were often a part of the breakfast buffet. I found them fresh in our local Asian / Hispanic grocery, and wanted to do them justice. This dish seemed perfect for them. I had dark soy sauce, but no red yeast powder ( on order) or the fermented tofu. I did remember the recipe from Fuchsia Dunlop for red braised pork belly that used caramelized sugar for the color and sweetening along with the dark soy sauce, so I am trying that with the dark soy sauce. It left the braised pork belly nicely red. I look forward to trying the red yeast rice next time since I understand it adds a subtle flavor.

    Aloha Mandy, I made this last night and wow wow wow! The only ingredient I could not find was red yeast so I omitted it. I didn't want to buy a bottle chili garlic paste so I used a tiny squirt of saracha which has almost the same ingredients. Those chefs that commented on the chilli garlic sauce should try it before commenting on it. My char siu came out so delicous! I experienced the same joy you had in your video when you took the first few bites! Mandy you are a great cook. Mahalo nui loa!
