The kids are adorable. You can tell the parents are doing a great job raising them by seeing how Cam thanked his daddy for giving him the food. Great parenting! I will have to try this recipe. Seems so much easier and faster in an air fryer. Thank you, Daddy Lau for your great recipes!
I made this dish yesterday. My wife hates pork but she liked this and suggested I make this dish again tomorrow when our son visits (along with your broccoli beef and fried rice). Great recipes and easy to follow instructions. Thanks!
You have two adorable sweet kids. They are good looking with good manners. your father doesn’t seem to age, he is looking very happy and healthy. Must be the cooking that is keeping him young.
If you like a nice bright red color color while being healthy, I have discovered adding 1/4 - 1/2 tsp of red beet powder will provide the effect. It does not affect the flavor of the char Sui.
You are fortunate to have your parents with you. Your son and daughter are precious. Thank you. Looks delicious, I enjoy making char sui. I have made it with pork belly, too. ❤
Your dad is such a awesome cook chef I have made many of your recipes and they’re absolutely amazing. I make the wonton soup all the time. My wife loves it.
Thank you master Lau for sharing your recipe and new cooking method that save time! I like your video that not only demonstrate how to cook also why and how it work. And explain the history of the special ingredients. Amazing part is referring other videos of how does those special ingredients was originally make. Keep on the good work young Lau and we are looking forward to visit more educational videos which introduce cantonese cooking and food history.
I have tried I think three of your recipes now and they go SO well, made the mongolian beef tonight but served it more like a beef and onion stirfry whilst using the same finishing sauce. tastes bloody phenomenal. This channel is inspiring fr.
Thank you for creating these good simple recipes with both English and Chinese subtitles! Thank you also for adding photos of the store bought ingredients as they help us to identify them in the grocery stores. Love your well made cooking videos! 👏🙏💖
I've tried MANY char siu recipes and this is by far the BEST! Totally outstanding flavor. I did have to double the marinade because my pork butt weighed a little over 3 pounds. Having had several years of experience with air fryers of different models I've learned they each operate at different temperatures so I would strongly advise others following this recipes to choose a lower temperature in case their air fryer doesn't overcook at recommended temperatures. I used two air fryers to make this roast - a Cosori Dual Blaze and a Cuisinart TOA60. I could use your recommended temperature with the Cosori, but not with the Cuisinart because I know that one will severely overcook. I didn't have ground bean sauce and tried substituting Korean soybean paste, using a bit less than the recipe suggested - obviously it was a good substitution because the flavor was perfect. I liked the fact that you didn't suggest too much five spice powder, in fact, I may have forgotten to double that. Sometimes five spice powder can be overpowering strong flavored. I love watching your family's togetherness. Wishing you continued success with your endeavors. Forgot to say that the meat was juicy and tender, not dried out as I often get when I buy char siu at a restaurant.
Another awesome recipe. This looks supertasty 😋🤤🤤🤤 I’m planning on making this tomorrow for dinner. Thank you for sharing this video! Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿
You can use honey or maltose as well. It's a tedious process but we constantly brush our roast pork with honey whilst roasting the traditional way. 蜜汁叉燒 is what we call it AKA honey sauce roast pork
Thank you Daddy Lau for the recipe. I followed the video and it’s my first time to make char siu. My family even my mother in law loves it ❤ huge success 😊 My hubby and his mum are very good at cooking but I never cook. Two days later my hubby asked me to do this char siu again. He really loves it. Using air fryer is very convenient for me to make it too.
There's no way that this just happened. I bought pork shoulder just an hour or 2 ago and now this video is up. Looks like it's time to give this a try!!! 😍
I love that the kids are eating, and enjoying, real food. Unlike most Western kids who live on chicken nuggets. I think I can get most of the ingredients from my local Asian supermarket, so definitely going to try this if I can!
I'm wondering if you could sub in ether Grenadine or just pomegranate juice and remove some of the sugar. It will thin the sauce but will add in a natural red colour as well as a natural sweetness. It might change the flavour very slightly though.
Hi. Can i use this cha siu marinate method for chicken as well ? Is the temperature setting n minutes will be the same for chicken. N u tell me the temperature setting in Celsius? Do advise
Cooking it in the air fryer is an interesting idea but mine is so small I wouldn't be able to make enough. When I make a batch I make a fairly good amount and then freeze it for later use. Daddy Lau is always entertaining though so I watched the whole thing!
I use it too. I used to make it from scratch but I kept having to through out the bean curd since I don't use it that often. I just wish it wasn't made with corn syrup.
Why this recipe’s ingredients are slightly different from the earlier versions? For example, this one does not use oyster sauce and brown sugar? and also now it added black pepper powder? Appreciate your explanation in advance
What a beautiful family. The pork looks delicious.
And you can really tell your dad really loves his son and his family
I really enjoy this channel. Everything I've made from you guys has been great. Looking forward to trying this out.

Try adding achiote to get that red color naturally. It's used in Caribbean and Mexican cuisines to get that signature red hue.
I love watching this man. Wonderful recipes! This guy knows what he's doing.
New subscriber! Just watched 3 videos and can’t wait to try cooking! I love his ceremonial way of calling the family to eat when it is ready!
It's great seeing new techniques being appreciated and used where appropriate
Thanks!

So sorry I did not catch that, do you air fry it or roast it in the air fryer? thank you!
The airfryer I own can do steam and fry at the same time. So meat won’t dry up

Ground Bean Sauce is not available in UK. Is there an alternative?

2:22 Lee Kum Kee. Not gonna lie that is the way I go since five spice and fermented red bean curd tend to gather dust.

Are the pre-made sauces any good?
This recipe is very different than the previous version in 2021. Wonder which one is more authentic
I gotta make this for my black friends. They'd eat it up like CRAZY
My air fryer has air fry or roast, which setting would I use?
I got some pork shoulder just waiting for this!
如果想有多啲汁可以點下 好似燒味檔沈住個啲叉燒汁 氣炸鍋係咪整唔到 定要另外調?
What's an alternative part of meat we can use if pork butt/shoulder is not available?
pork belly
Chicken too
did u put honey on both sides at the 10 minute mark
@4:05 Daddy Lau is going to make some shumai later!
could you velvetise the meat at the start to make it even more tender?
Have you guys tried Sou Vide Char Siu?
I assume the meat gets harder if it marinates more than 24 hrs because there's no strong acids like vinegar or citric acid on the marinade right?
Lau the goat
in all seriousness, what i wouldn't give to join your lovely family for a beautiful home cooked meal!!
Why can’t I find ground bean sauce anywhere?
Omg the random Toisan got me so scared and thought my dad was calling for me as Mui Mui hahahah
nice a air fryer recipe , roast pork ver ?

What's ground bean sauce?
Fermented bean sauce or paste. If your supermarket doesn’t have it, substitute it with red miso.
