- Here's part 2 of the Mainline Mario Marathon! This time with some really well known ones, and some much less well known ones. The Mario Land games were scary because the first one you can permanently game over, and the second one is a lot longer and I honestly didn't know the game super well. But I remember where to go (mostly!) and got it done! NSMB didn't go nearly as well as I'd hoped, lost the shell in world 5 which was super unfortunate. Then it all spiraled downhill lol. Oh well! It all turned out okay in the end. Enjoy!

I didn't realize until watching this how stressful Super Mario Sunshine is. Pretty much every level I was like "wow this level gave me anxiety as a kid". Speedrunning really amplifies that too. I guess that's why I am the way I am now lmao.
This just emphasizes how much longer the 3D Mario games are.
I think part of that is because pretty much all of them besides Odyssey force you to load in and out of the level after each star, burning a lot of time. Odyssey IMO is so much better paced because you can collect a moon and continue going about your business.

Brawler_1337 i mean, in each of these worlds the stars are so much more bigger in terms of what you have to do, in Mario Odyssey, they’re bite sized as there’s...y’know...hundreds of them, so it makes sense
@@phet1211 not in 64, many odyssey moons are much longer than practically every 64 star. 64 is super padded due to leaving levels.
also most 2d games have ways to skip worlds
I find it entertaining watching someone beat many games in 24 hours, which half I haven't even beat

The motif development in SML 2's soundtrack is AWESOME.
SML2 was SO intense at the end, and NSMB made we want to cry for you. So much fun!

the music sync in super mario land is amazing. keep up the great work Kosmic! also, Mario Land 2 is an underrated gem and it's almost criminal that you can get it for like 5 dollars on 3ds eShop.

Christ, that Super Mario game for the Gameboy brought back some heavy nostalgia. I remember being terrified of half the levels and the enemies in them. I don't think I ever beat it. Going to have to try and get my hands on a copy to try again.

NSMB DS was/is the greatest NSMB game because instead of spinjumps, motion controlls and too many coins it innovated in Level Design and the Blue Shell and the ? switches that they seem to have just gotten rid of
I have never played Super Mario Land and man that game looks weird, from the enemy patterns to the physics it all seems super awkward
Awkward is the perfect word. Really a product of gameboy development being in its infancy. Still an okay game, but it's really amazing what they pulled off for sml2

I mostly just watch Kosmic, and melee videos on TH-cam, so when this one started I was just zoned out watching it and then you started playing Mario & I remembered I was watching Kosmic play all the Mario games

ahh Super Mario Land 2 was my childhood, this brings back so many memories haha
Sunshine is unpolished because it was rushed to release and completely torn apart and rebuilt multiple times (total development time was well under two years). Nintendo was working on a "true" 64 sequel for the disc drive but it was scrapped. Much of that 64 sequel (along with a few tech demos) became galaxy (which was delayed/pushed back to wii...the wii was partially created just for galaxy). Galaxy was technically in development before Sunshine was even started.
The voice acting is def bizarre, but in general SS is no more strange than many other mario games lol. It's also better than any Sonic game (or any 3d collectathon that came after M64).
Seeing sml2 brought back so many memories. I forgot about that game! I had it growing up and damn that was a blast to the past!
I remember seeing 8-4 on your stream and I just want to say something in case you run NSMB DS again: holding down right/down left before landing on those platforms will buffer a down input which completely stops you from pixel stopping. You can also be holding an object (like a koopa shell or spring) or shoot a fireball to avoid them as well.
"Sega made mario sunshine" is the best theory I've heard in a while

Super Marion land 2 on the gameboy was my favorite game as a kid on that system. My afternoons would go homework, Batman animated series, SML2, dinner and then two more hours of SML2, lol.

Seeing you play New Super Mario Bros on the DS is awesome because I grew up with that game as well as New Super Mario Bros on the wii.

I died too, lol. 8-4 and 8-8 are stupid with the RNG and 8 mid castle 2 is just hard. The game does give you a lot of 1 ups but it's not like new Soup 2, you can still game over if you're not careful.

Ever since you pointed out that it looks like Sega made SMS I can’t get that out of my head. Especially because it always felt off to me and just like very similar to SM64. I forever now am gonna think about how it looks like Sega made a sequel to SM64 and came up with Sunshine
Even tho the nsmb speedrun was really bad it was very entertaining and probably one of the best games of the mainline mario marathon :D

NSMB on the DS and Super Mario 3D Land are such good games, superior to their console counterparts for sure. As somebody who owns all of Nintendo's portable consoles, I felt vindicated. (even if I do not like the 3DS library much.)
Unpopular opinion: I would LOVE to see more SMS speedruns, preferably 100% ones.
I'm bad at it myself due to brain damage, but when i just started watching 100% speedruns of it, i was strangely comfortable with it.
Same with Zelda WW, but i still prefer watching OoT and MM speedruns over WW.
Plus SMS has a nice environment and music, so makes watching way more fun rather than intense.
