- Francois got a call from a Omeya resident of a big snake that they saw entering a thorn bush. The snake tuned out to be a massive Angolan also known as the Anchieta's cobra. It took a few minutes of struggling , but Francois managed to safely get the snake out without it getting injured by the thorns.
The Anchieta's cobra is Namibia's largest cobra and it is a non-spitting cobra.
This is a crepuscular snake (more active late afternoon and early morning - twilight hours). It feeds on a variety of amphibians, small mammals and other reptiles and is often encountered in or around a source water.
They are highly venomous, however these are very shy snakes and bites are very rare.
BEAUTIFUL snake!! At least, the residents didn't kill it, but summoned Francois instead!! XXXX
Dis n mooi een daai...waar gevang...
I thought Anchieta's didn't grow longer than 1,2. That's what a field guide I have says.
Absolutely love your work Francois. Love your Vidz. Cannot wait for the next one.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Joh joh that is a big one!! Where was that? Omeya I see.
Yeah was on Omeya, but it’s a pity I had to move it. This was a resident snake and never bothered anyone, but he was getting a bit close to the houses.
2.170 meters of majestic snake. What a beauty!
What is the usual size of Anchieta Cobra? Is this the biggest one you ever removed? What age do you estimate this snake to be? Was it a male or female? Is one sex bigger than the other? Thank you for the videos.
So Anchieta’s average between 1.9-2m but can grow to a max length of 2.5m. However, the largest one on records was a 2.41m Anchieta’s cobra I caught near Ellesenheim in 2016. You should find a short note we published last year. There is no accurate way to estimate the age, so if I have to guess he will be between 5-10 years old. This was a male, from literature mentions that males in general are bigger.
Thank you.
