K I'm a HEMA practitioner and I just wanna say this to the other HEMA practitioners on here...
This is not supposed to be a real battle. It is a sport that uses medieval-esque armour and weapons as a means to that sport. No one is claiming this is real warfare. It's just a bit of fun. They fight for the rules they are constrained to, and their tactics to that end are effective.

Honestly if the announcer never say, I'll never know whos fighting who. Its good to add a team card on screen before a match, just a thought.

Things they got right: Costumes, weapons, armors and the visual aspect
of it, quite impressive...also the level of intensity, with hard blows
being delivered, looks pretty straight forward too!
Things they got wrong: The rules, or the "rule", because it seems as the
only thing that matters is making your oponent trip... Theres no point
on how good you are with your sword...if your oponent is a 120kg fat
bloke you are going down..
I can see a point system wouldnt work, whos gonna keep the track of who-

What about certain areas of the arena (wich should be bigger IMO as
well) are marked with colored circles, stay in there for a period of
time earn a certain amount of points...

whatever,, but this nonsensse...
What I see here is just a bunch of properly dressed medieval knights
fighting like drunk british teenagers, and it aint pretty...
Weapon skills, medieval warfar, battle tactics?? mehh forget about that,
just bring your national mma\jiujitsu\wrestling\judo team...dress them
as medieval as you can,, boom job done...

A downed opponent is a dead opponent, and when your opponent is a walking tank of steel like a French knight, you obviously have better chances of killing him while he is down and crippled.

U dont get points for hights i believe the points are how many people u have up at the end still
the other guys are correct. The object, being to put the other guy to the ground, is based on medieval rules, and there are plenty of "skill" things you can do to accomplish that. Some competitions have had "kill the king" as a scenario, but the techniques are still the same.
So yes, w do bring mma/jiujitsu/wrestling/judo skills into this, as well as muay thai, kickboxing, and contact sports like American football into this, but there were techniques in the old manuals that closely resemble those that come out of these sports and martial arts. But adding the weapons and armor brings a challenging new dimension to the game, so it's not as easy as just "dressing the team up in armor."
And those teams that are strong with the weapon skill and battle tactics as well as martial arts and contact sports skills are the ones that win a lot.

You fail to understand this is tournament, called buhurt by the competitors.
Although death and critical injury happened during medieval tournament, the goal was prestige and competition, not death.
This is not open warfare.
So the sword battles are still alive

send request for war against neighbouring country to respective king, go to bar and distribute lots of alcohol, distribute also lots of promises for cattle, horses and a pair of chickens, send email talking trash about neighboring country beer, expect them at previously mentioned border.
you have to find a team in your area and ask to join, most often they accept new members.

Strategy? What strategy? It's every man going off by themselves against anyone with the other colour. There is no team work, no shield wall, no timed flanking. And how is it scored? Why not just throw away your weapon and hip throw the guy to the ground?
Makes sense. Certain tactics are used for certain situations.
+Tony Smith hitting the other with the weapon on the head can make him dizzy and lose balance and fall down :) so its good to have a sword and shield
