      Ohh well yes! His first round was so amazing! No movement to block a strike, just careful positioning. Minute movement and a confident stance. Beautiful to watch. Sad he lost. I think he looked better than the aggressiv style of the russian. But the Referees have their reasons :)

      Both him and the first Russian guy had really solid footwork. That’s why they could bounce the other guy back to the gate. Honestly I’m only a dabbler with HEMA but I see way too much movement in most people when they fight with pole arms. If you do move, move with proper form.

      @@Darthvirus1992 The judges do not have “their own opinion” on this score, the results of the battle are based on facts, and the fact that an American in a real battle would have been killed with his “cautious positioning”, the Russian would simply crush him physically.

    Okay, I've watched fight Russia vs USA in 0.5 speed and count all hits. I think rules are simple: any hit counts except fingers. I'm pretty sure that hits in arms counts bcs of result of first fight and loud Russian yells to hit arm.
    1st round Russian hit 3 times in right arm USA, and got hit 1 times in neck/shoulder area.
    So Russian 3 points and USA 1 point.
    2nd round: Russia 1 neck 6(+1 in start? not sure) arm 3 head 2 torso(1 of them ended as thrusting). 1+6(7?)+3+2=12(13?)
    USA 2 head , 1 arm, 2 torso, 1 shoulder=6
    So Russia ~12 points and USA 6 points. Even if you will minus some points for thrusting, winner will be the same.
    FUUH. so intense fight, hard to count even in slow motion.

    • @blkspec9973
      @blkspec9973 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Evers if it's like some of the hema fights I've seen, then you're a little bit off. Points are assessed by area of the body, meaning more points for a deadlier blow (ie: head gives 4, torso 3, arms 2 etc.) Plus a nonquality cut doesn't give points. Nonquality meaning if you land a hit with the flat of the blade, or the tip barely touches them. They would also count bad edge alignment as a nonquality cut(not sure about this one for polearms, as they are hard to orient due to their rounded handle which would cause a lot of bad edge alignment). Again, the rules here may be different, so I might be wrong. Just my 2 cents on the matter :)

    You can always tell, the guy who holds his pole arm at a higher grip, closer to the blade, wins. It gives the wielder more control, and shows experience in how they’re fighting.

      What is a good rule of thumb is that defensive fighters will lose to aggressive fighters unless there is a major skill difference. Stamina is also important. I got the impression that the Russian went all out in the first fight and then lacked the energy to do so the same against the American.

    Почему в который раз вижу, как Лёша пытается взломать систему? На этот раз великолепная идея с щитом на среднюю руку, благодаря которой вообще нет необходимости брать сложные защиты. Две верхние защиты четвёртого и третьего сектора без перемены положения рук. Как всегда гениально и просто. Работает, как швейцарские часы. Это видно в первом раунде с Джефом Галли, когда он пытается сделать финт, а Лёша на него реагирует и без труда переводит защиту из 4 сектора в 3.

      take the game of thrones fight as an example,, the viper evaded and dodged and rolled and backflipped out of the mountains way,, and essentially won the fight,, against a massively superiorly sized opponant

      That's fiction. Plus, different weapons and equipment. Different style as well, the Viper using wushu in the tv series.

    Why is nobody thrusting with the polearm, is it against the rules?

  • @joshuajimbun5877
    @joshuajimbun5877 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason they put the sharp end at the tip of the pole is for you to have more range, I didn't see anyone using the advantage, just bashing each other, what's the point?
