That's good, vinegar will work too, hotter the better and at least over night. It's most important to get the carbon off the inside insulator. Carbon is conductive and fouls the plug. After soaking, brush the insulator with comet and a tooth brush to clean off the carbon. Rinse with hot water, and repeat comet scrubbing until center insulator looks as white as possible, light tan color is okay, black color is bad.
Ive always hit them with a torch for about 30 seconds to a minute best way to see if the core and the insolator has separated gas gets trapped between them and burns off. Works better at getting all the carbon built up on the ceramic and down in the plug than just a wire brush and soaking them

What is the proper way to remove oil from the spark plug well? My valve gasket was broken and some oil accumulated in the wells. In one film they said you can't remove those spark plugs since the oil will go somewhere where it is not supposed to be.
get some clean rags, an a long thin screwdriver, fold the rag a few times over so your not gettin any bits of cloth from the edge stuck int here as well try get it out... ive had both water an oil in there bro you just do what you can do while stress veins are pumping... keep in mind the more thorough you are, the less chances you have of anything falling into the cylinders. good luck

@@olenaerhardt7725I realise you've fixed it now, but the way I'd do it is, with the spark plug still in there, point a compressed air trigger nozzle down the hole, cover it with rags, then pull the trigger. Don't use brake cleaner. If some soaks into a crevice and doesn't evaporate, with the combustion temperatures it can turn into phosgene gas, a deadly nerve gas (absolutely don't use brake cleaner to clean parts you're going to weld for the same reason). If I understand correctly, electrical contact cleaner is a better option, but it's probably better to use something like petrol/gasoline that we know definitely doesn't turn into phosgene gas (otherwise, it wouldn't be used as a fuel). You might want to do an initial clean-up with gasoline to get rid of any oil, then put the spark plugs into the coke and salt. Coke and vinegar might also work (at least, it works on old coins, but maybe spark plug coatings might be different). If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, putting the plugs into that with the coke mixture will probably do an even better job.
Active ingredient in Coca Cola is phosphoric acid. Any mild acid solution would probably work. Vinegar is acetic acid, for example. Salt water is notorious as a corrosive agent, hence adding salt to the mixture. At a microscopic level the salt probably causes some surface pitting, but at that scale it likely doesn't really matter. Anyway, I have some spark plugs to clean so I'll take what I learned here and try to apply it with what I have on hand. Thanks Andy!
Nope. Brake cleaner, when burned, turns into phosgene gas. Never use brake cleaner on anything that gets seriously hot, and that includes clean-up for welding. It can stay trapped between parts, then you go zappity zap with the spark plug or welder, you smell freshly mowed grass (but there's no freshly mowed grass), and you're in very deep trouble, with nothing that the hospital can do to save you. People have died using brake cleaner like that. Please don't make the same mistake.

An drink the Coke or put it in the rad?
Thanks for the quick video
How well did it clean inside the end of the plug? Near the ceramic insulator?

A drink that's doing that is supposed to get into our body??😮
If soda does this to a spark plug imagine what it’s doing to your body 😂💯
Yes, especially if you have a great deal of carbon buildup and rust.
I have zero carbon buildup after drinking one soda a day/.

The brush looks like it is stainless steel 2:50 ?? Would using Coke Cola in a ultrasound make the process go faster ??? Nice video Sir too. v
Will a brass brush work as well? Great video, very informative.
It should but make sure you remove all the build up. In some cases the plugs are just too worn down and need to be replaced.
Great and how do you dry the spark plugs?
I just let them air dry or you can use a hair dryer
did you put them back in your car??
you dont need new saprk plugs , just clean them.
Do you drink the res of the coke? Bro?

Can i do the same for iridium plugs?
Should work on any that have build up as long as the plugs are not damaged
Seems a waste to soak for hours when you still have to spend an hour wire brushing them.
