    Sorry for the dumb question but do you need to e careful brushing the plug? Does the brushing pressure not affect the gap on the plug?

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question Steve. Brushing it will not affect the gap. You really have to push Dow very hard to bend it out of place. I also have done a video on gapping spark plugs. So if it ever is out of gap it’s an easy fix. Thanks for watching!

    You are a patient and really good mentor. I just tried this with my car. I didn’t use heat but I just used sand paper to clean the oil and carbon deposit off and my car starts up great now

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! There are a couple ways to do this procedure! The only device that I tried cleaning spark plugs with was this box with sand in it. A lot of it got stuck in the plug. Had to throw one away. That box was junk. Other than that, clean plugs make a world of a difference! Thanks for watching James!

    Someone was touting heat-cleaning plugs to me yesterday..Odd. I've never had to heat up a plug to clean it. I've used the same Champion spark plug on my mower for 28 years now and only ever wire brushed it about a dozen times to clean it up. Mower works fine. Anyone else?

    Great video... my spark plugs were fouled due to running a catless downpipe and piggyback tune.. usually getting running lean to bank 1 check engine light code. I used the recommended HKSM45XL plugs ..the dealership cleaned my plugs and since had the catless downpipe removed since my car needed more backpressure to run efficiently. Would you have any recommendations to deter fouled plugs in the future as i am planning to get a high flow downpipe?

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mwilliams, this procedure is meant more for small engines. It could work for cleaning car spark plugs too. As far as your question goes I recommend running this by a car mechanic for their thoughts on this. This is outside my area of expertise. Thanks for watching!

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wiping them down with a rag won’t fully remove the carbon build up on them. Heating them up does a great job. I’ve seen some tools that sand off the material. And those work ok by some sand can get stuck in the end of the spark plug which could cause a problem. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    hardly anybody knows thebrst to clean a spark plug making it shin has nothing to do with it firing right i use a sim;ple plug blaster from harbor freight less than 20 $$$ had it for years about 100 psi iinsert the dirty plug it clean as new inside where it counts the carbon buildup can only be seen with a volt ohm meter set on its hightest scale if connect one lead to top and the other to the bottom (hook) if you get any reading the plug is dirty that is the least resistance to ground threw that carbon the tester will clean that mess out till you get no reading its good as new then try it ps alwas hold blaster vertical with plug on top to clean it woras good horizonal it the way its made inside it the loscation of the hole the media (sand ) flows thru i hope this helps some one to use a meter to see dirt

    HIGHLY NOT RECCOMENDED. The carbon fouling in spark plugs is natural but accelerated through rich fuel conditions. End point is that it’s been worn down, the node is most likely deteriorated.
