I hardly ever leave comments, but just had to say that your videos are by far the best information I’ve found for modifying my wrx. Thank you for making these awesome videos!
Appreciate all the work you put in for all of us in TH-cam land. After seeing your car, totally makes me want to keep my bronze wheels. Was thinking about going matte black but not anymore lol
Lug nut sizes are specified in two numbers. The first number is the diameter of the stud. The second number is the thread pitch. On metric studs, the thread pitch is the distance in milimeters between each thread. On standard lug nuts, the thread pitch is the number of threads per inch. Nice video btw. ✨
All my friends, coworkers and family always come to me for info and questions about wheels and tires, I thought I new a lot but I just learned some more. Awesome vid and love how chill you are. Ty for all that info. Car looks 🔥 btw
good video mate. Just one correction@ 9min. wheel nut spec of M12 x 1.25. 12 refers to the thickness of the wheelstud in mm - not the spacing between the bolts. The spacing between the bolts is the PCD - pitch circle diameter - which is 114.3 mm in the wrx's case. Also, for completeness, toe in gives more stability, toe out gives more turn-in/dartiness. In a car like a wrx having 0mm toe front and +1mm toe-in rear works well. Increasing front camber to 1.5-2deg makes a huge difference over oem which is close to 0.
Really great info! I wish I could correct what I said about the bolt size, now that I look back I realize I knew that 12 stood for the bolt thickness as that's the same as the shifter size. Not sure why I thought it was the spacing. As far as the rest of the info, also super good! I agree that front camber totally helps, I currently have about -1.5 or so in the front and about the same in the rear. People like you should make videos to make people like me learn this before making videos, haha.
I run Enkei Raijin 19x9.5 +35 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S 265/30/r19 tires, and I can say that even with my 1" drop on Swift Spec-R lowering springs there are no issues with rubbing against the fender or the fender liner. In fact, if I stand the wheels up next OEM wheels and tires (18x8.5 +35, 245/40r18), they stand at nearly the same height, with the OEM wheels being slightly TALLER. Thus, 19" wheels are a viable option for these cars, even if they are lowered. In my opinion, having a small tire wall (it's square, not stretched) with a large wheel face looks really nice. Obviously, it is not an ideal track setup, but it should not be ruled out as "making no sense" when it is working fantastically for me as a daily driver. Moreover, my wheel weight did not increase moving to the 19" Raijins because they are made using a "MAT" process, so my acceleration and handling were not negatively impacted. If anything, they got better. If you would like to see how 19" wheels fit with a mild drop, my Instagram is @wrx2.0. No hate intended, just saying that 19" wheels should NOT be ruled out. Good video and sick wrx. p.s. I do plan to purchase coil overs in the future, and I expect that I will need to roll my fenders a bit and adjust camber.
@@hunterbawlz If it works for you, that's great! I still think 18" wheels look a ton better than 19's on these cars. Perfect example is when sti owners go from stock 19's to aftermarket 18's and the car just looks way better as a result. Not to mention that tires for 19's are the most expensive and hardest to find.
@@hunterbawlz lol. Your enkies 19" with tire size 265/30/19 is 25.3" overall diameter compare to stock 245/40/18 tires 25.7". Those will not fit without a lot of fender work. Don't forget that the offset matters more than the width... Do more research on that. And I have no idea about the second question.
Fantastic video. Love your channel man. Just subbed. I scrolled through many of the comments and my only question is what tires are those? I already have 18x9.5 +35 wheels and want 255/35s. Tires differ slightly by brand and some 255/35s have slightly higher and lower sidewalls. Yours are perfect. Thanks much!
Thanks man! That car is now on its 4th owner, same exact mods as in the video, not a thing changed, still boosted and reliable, over 40k miles and won a bunch of local car show awards recently. Most of the owners hit me up and we kept in touch and they'd send me pics of it and say how much they liked the car. I think it sold for around 25k. I sold it for 28k... Amazing how it's kept the value.
TheShaddix man that is awesome! I was hoping to find one and follow your example because it was perfect. You did a great job. Now I’m looking at your wrx and waiting for more content. You’re doing it just right.

Awesome informative video 👍 Cheers. Mike
Great video with a bunch of information. Love the wheels too. I’m looking to get a set of wider ones. Do you have a video on how to roll and pull fenders?
I appreciate how you reply to comments on videos no matter how old the video is. My only question is I would like bronze wheels on my 04 TL. Your encouragement at 5:56 - 6:02 inspired me to do this. back to my question since im currently on a budget and wanted to spray my wheels bronze what high temp paint do you recommend you use, Dupli Color or any1thing else? Really looking for the bronze you currently have thanks.
I would normally tell you not to bother doing it yourself as the finish will never be that great and durable. It'll also smell unless you put a proper clearcoat over it. So, the trick is in the prep. Make sure to degrease them well and scuff them up with some harsh scotchbrite pad, then degrease again and wipe with a cheese cloth to remove lint. Do one rim at a time, not all 4 at once as it's a ton of work. Duplicolor is the best paint, so just pick your favorite color. For the clearcoat I recommend the duplicolor wheel matte clear, it does not smell at all after a few days. Spray it about 30 minutes after you spray the bronze base coat. You want about 3 coats of base and 2-3 coats of clear. You'll go through a ton of cans, so the total cost will be well over 100 bucks. Good luck! And make sure you don't spray them in your garage or near your car/house. Find some remote area somewhere and spray it there out in the open because it'll have a ton of overspray clouds that, if landed on your car, will be hard to remove.
hey, I want this same rims!!! where did yu get them? looking to do the 245/40/18 wheel with the esr08 18x9.5 +22 rim on a stock suspension. great look on the car man and great info on the video!
very informative video!!! Question, I have a 2019 wrx. Waiting for my rotiform rse (silver) to come in, they are 18x9.5 +35. I was planning on using my stock 245 40 18 dunlop tires on the rims. Do you think I can run 255 40 18 on stock suspension/ lower on springs with this setup without any issues?
I would go with 255/35, not 40. You don't want to add sidewall height. 255/35 series is just a few mm shorter than 245/40, and 265/35 is the ideal choice for your setup. You'll be fine fitment-wise with that offset, but will need to do a mild roll on the fenders just to bring the fender lip up a bit so it doesn't cut the sidewall.
I have 2012 wrx hatch on stock suspension. I want a 18x9.5 +35 wheel. Not sure in the tire tho. I was thinking either 245/35 or 215/40. I’m can’t decide really. What would you suggest?
Love the setup you have, man. Looks amazing and I want to go for that look. Question: I was thinking of doing the 18x10.5 but seems like you had to do a lot for them to sit right. If I went with the 18x9.5, would that be a better fit for me? Because I’m not not if I want to do anything to the fenders, wheels welds etc. I have a ‘17 STI.
TheShaddix Right. I’m going for those exact wheels you have. If I were to get the 18x10.5, would it be a definite that I would have to roll the fenders and do extra to make them fit well like you did? Sorry for all the questions, I’m new to this type of info.
@@ReignXzile the answer to your question is in the video. I mentioned every detail of what needs to be done. If you're not sure what to do, don't do it. Everyone wants 10.5 but only a few know how hard it is to squeeze into this car.
@@ReignXzile honestly unless you’re taking it to a track i don’t see why you’d get anything larger than 8.5. just means it’ll be more expensive and tires will be more expensive
i knew it man your russian right ? I figured that cuz you sound just like me haha , keep up the good work love your car , I just picked up a 2019 WRX base model last month and will be taking some pointers from your build .
depends on the offset. If you go with +38, then you will have zero issues with a very mild fender roll or none at all. If you go with +34 and lower, you'll need a fender roll for sure. Anything below that and you're looking into roll and pull and all kinds of stuff that I had to do.
TOE must never be zero, or a little IN for high speed stability, or OUT for corner in... if you set to zero wheels will "fight" what one will be in charge and it will feel car wants to wonder around...
Great vid! I've got a red 18 limited and was thinking of going 18x9.5 38 offset but now you've got me second guessing getting bronze for the color lol. Im not a fan of black wheels they all look the same from a distance. If I ever plan on lowering the car an inch or so down the road is it better to go with 265/35 or 255/35??? Thanks man! Car looks beautiful.
Thanks man! You'll have to roll fenders to run 265 tires, but that'll look really good. With no rolling you can do 255, but they might rub a tiny bit on bigger bumps. The black wheels I show in this video were 18x9.5 +34 with 255/35 tires. I had very little rubbing, so +38 should clear it for 255.
TheShaddix appreciate your reply. Got the same lip as you after your last vid, forgot to mention! Regarding the tires, what are your thoughts on all seasons when you live in an area that gets very little snow in the winter? Should I get some or keep separate Summers and winters? Do you have any tire prefs? Do you really think red and bronze doesn't work? I want some matte bronze te37 reps they look so good but you've got me second guessing the color.
@@deej628 all seasons should be fine. My pref is always get the cheapest tires. I've had all kinds and there is very little difference between very expensive and really cheap. Only at the limit you may see that difference. Good choice on the lip, I think it's the best option. I just got some sideskirt extensions, I'll make a video on that once they are on. As far as bronze on red, I wouldn't do it. It's like green wheels on a blue car. You don't want to have clashing colors - you want to complement the red instead with a more subdued, neutral finish. Best would be gunmetal or charcoal. I looked at a lot of pics of red and bronze and none look good... Red is a strong color, you chose it because of that. White is a neutral color so any wheel works on it for that reason. I had an orange m3 before and I went through a bunch of wheels on it, from matte black to gunmetal and then back to matte black. That's what looked best on it. Bronze would look just wrong on it and I really wanted bronze wheels as that's my favorite. At the end of the day, it's your personal call. But don't be surprised if you hate the look once they are installed.
Shaddix- We want to build our WRX for DD. We bought Apex Wheels (+38) that look great with the 265/35-18 tires you like. There is 4 1/4 inch space from tire to fender on the front and 4 inch space on the rear tire to fender.. We would like to lower the car WITHOUT rolling the fenders. How can one tell if the front wheels are going to rub with respect to the amount we lower the car when turning them? I think just springs alone only lower the car 1 inch. I understand the coilovers to be adjustable. The apex wheels are "helaflush" and look great! Please advise.
Aye bro do you recommend me to get the same wheel set up you have for my wrx I'm thinking to go with lower springs bc I'm not planning on slammed it but I like the poke fitment you have
Soo much good info. I'm looking at some enkei pf07 18x8.5 +50 which is closest to stock I could find. I don't wanna deal with lowering, rolling or anything. Will it work just like stock? Sticking closest to 245/40 r18 stock?
in the video i mentioned the site i use. It'll help you see where the new wheels will sit exactly compared to stock. Then just measure how much space you got on the car and you'll get your answers.
@@TheShaddix thanks I went there and plugged all in. Seems to fit, but I guess my real question should been asked about is the scrub. That's the part confused me. My end result had a +12mm scrub for what I was after. Lowest scrub I can get to. Just unsure how safe that would concerned
@@robbiexiong3508 I suggest keeping the car stock based on your concerns. I don't care about that stuff personally as I've modified a lot of cars and never saw any negative effects in handling. I am sure my car would do fine at the track with the way it sits, but I am also sure the same car but with a more technically correct setup would handle even better when thrown around turns. You always sacrifice something when you're going for a stanced look, no way around it really. The worst behind widebody cars with wheels sitting super far from the original offset. It's form over function in this case. Another thing is, 12mm is not a big deal and you'll never notice it. Safety isn't even a concern.
How to get a similar stance to yours wheels/tire setup? I Got a 2021 STI with the brembos, Im tryin to get like an 18 inch wheels but stock suspension. I do like the stretched tire look but maybe a little less. what would i need to get size wise? i also want the tire to fill the gap between the tire more without lowering it on stock suspension.
I realize 18’s come standard In the prem. And limited;however, I have a base model. Will I run into issues if I run a 255/35/18 set up. I don’t want to roll my fenders.
I get rolling the fender. What exactly do they mean by with pulling the fender? Unless it's exactly how it sounds. I got a set of wheels, 18x9.5 +28. They poke a tiny bit...They have a 265/35 on them, but the tires are bad, I got the wheels for cheap.
good video help a lot in understanding wheel size what you think in 265/35ZR 18 (97y) michelin PSS 4S with Rotor girds 9 and half plus 38 wide 18 with a rota grid matte black
@@ZXStormRider with 265 you will most likely get some rubbing in the back unless the offset is higher than +38. I would roll the fenders regardless if you plan on running those tires.
@@TheShaddix why not both front and the back and also will i have to take off the plastic from underneath where the tiers go because i saw one of your video that you took off your but your wheels arent too high or was it because you lower it down
I don't like 19's on these cars, doesn't matter what the factory puts on these cars... Civic type R comes with 20" wheels, but everyone switches to 18's because that looks and performs best.
I'm looking at a 18x8 +42. 5x114.3mm 73.1mm rim or a 18x8 +45 5x114.3mm 73.1mm rim. what size tire would give me the best poke style like yours for each option id really appreciate the help
@@dezi504 22 offset gives you a deeper face. 35 will look flatter but fit better on stock fenders. 22 offset will rub for sure without rolling and pulling the fenders. It's the same fitment as mine, but mine just stretches the tire an extra inch.
Bro I'm planning to buy 18x9.5 +22offset with 245 35 tires on it. What modifications do i need to do to make it fit. Do you think camber my coilovers enough? Thanks
99% of people who got their car with 19's switch to 18's. It's very rare to see anyone going 19's on wrx/sti. It just doesn't look right with such a slim tire.

You want about 3 coats of base and 2-3 coats of clear. You'll go through a ton of cans, so the total cost will be well over 100 bucks. Good luck! And make sure you don't spray them in your garage or near your car/house. Find some remote area somewhere and spray it there out in the open because it'll have a ton of overspray clouds that, if landed on your car, will be hard to remove.
well done man. Thanks for the info. WRX looks mean and sexy.
hey, I want this same rims!!! where did yu get them? looking to do the 245/40/18 wheel with the esr08 18x9.5 +22 rim on a stock suspension. great look on the car man and great info on the video!
contact esr or search on ebay.
Great video!!! Very informative..ur wheel specs look amazing...
Thanks man!
Thinking of getting those rims for my wrx looks nice 👍
very informative video!!!
Gerard Butler ???
Love the setup you have, man. Looks amazing and I want to go for that look. Question: I was thinking of doing the 18x10.5 but seems like you had to do a lot for them to sit right. If I went with the 18x9.5, would that be a better fit for me? Because I’m not not if I want to do anything to the fenders, wheels welds etc. I have a ‘17 STI.
18x9.5 is a standard setup and it'll fit well as long as you go with an offset of 30+.
TheShaddix Gotcha. Thanks for the intel, bud.
Haha, yeah man! Even the soundtrack is made by a Russian dude, his name is niteboi on SoundCloud.
super thorough video! would a 265 35r on a 18 x 9.5 wheel fit a 2017 sti? not having much luck getting a reliable answer
depends on the offset. If you go with +38, then you will have zero issues with a very mild fender roll or none at all. If you go with +34 and lower, you'll need a fender roll for sure. Anything below that and you're looking into roll and pull and all kinds of stuff that I had to do.
@@TheShaddix okay i was wondering what the minimum offset needed to be to clear the brakes. Thanks!
TheShaddix thanks for all the help man you rock! Looking forward to the sideskirt video!
Sorry ik you explained well but like what’s a quick recap of the fitment and rim size?
Shaddix- We want to build our WRX for DD. We bought Apex Wheels (+38) that look great with the 265/35-18 tires you like. There is 4 1/4 inch space from tire to fender on the front and 4 inch space on the rear tire to fender.. We would like to lower the car WITHOUT rolling the fenders. How can one tell if the front wheels are going to rub with respect to the amount we lower the car when turning them? I think just springs alone only lower the car 1 inch. I understand the coilovers to be adjustable. The apex wheels are "helaflush" and look great! Please advise.
The only way to know is to do it and go from there and fix whatever rubs.
Cool video man thanks for the info!
The WRX looking really nice! Keep it up with a sick build.
What tires would you suggest ...
Best for summer performance...dry and wet
Great video with great information! Helped me out a ton and won me as a sub
I like your wheels
Aye bro do you recommend me to get the same wheel set up you have for my wrx I'm thinking to go with lower springs bc I'm not planning on slammed it but I like the poke fitment you have
Not unless you wanna do a ton of fender work
@@TheShaddix so what wheel set up you recommend me
What's the paint code on your wheels?
Hi, I have a 2017 STi with stock 245/40R18 and I want to buy all season tires in 255/40R18. So what do you think in will fix in the stock wheels?
I realize 18’s come standard In the prem. And limited;however, I have a base model. Will I run into issues if I run a 255/35/18 set up. I don’t want to roll my fenders.
Use the site I mentioned
I get rolling the fender. What exactly do they mean by with pulling the fender? Unless it's exactly how it sounds. I got a set of wheels, 18x9.5 +28. They poke a tiny bit...They have a 265/35 on them, but the tires are bad, I got the wheels for cheap.
A simple google search would provide you with the answer to your question. You will need to roll and pull to fit those without rubbing.
@@TheShaddix thanks! Also good video. Very informative.
good video help a lot in understanding wheel size what you think in 265/35ZR 18 (97y) michelin PSS 4S with Rotor girds 9 and half plus 38 wide 18 with a rota grid matte black
That would look great. Have you seen wheels by avid1? Good quality and way cheaper than rota
@@TheShaddix no not yet but i will now thanks
but will i have to roll up my fenders
@@ZXStormRider with 265 you will most likely get some rubbing in the back unless the offset is higher than +38. I would roll the fenders regardless if you plan on running those tires.
@@TheShaddix why not both front and the back and also will i have to take off the plastic from underneath where the tiers go because i saw one of your video that you took off your but your wheels arent too high or was it because you lower it down
Cool video man!! 🏆🏆 do you have the link for the wheels? Asking because all the web sites that I found them, they are over 700.
I got them through someone who hooked me up with a discount because I bought a lot of wheels from him over the years. Normal price is around 700.
Those esr wheels are now $300 a piece $1200 per set
How much offset did you get? Does it ever hit the fenders? I'm about to get the FF3 just dont know the offset that's safe
All your questions are answered in this video.
Another helpful video. :D
Which setup would be better for daily driving. 18x8.5 with 35 offset or 18x9.5 with 35 offset and the tire would be 245/40r18?
It's pointless to get anything below 9.5". That should be your base line.
1st minute into the video you said, "19s makes no sense". ????? Manufactured WRX STIs have 19s, it looks great. But, good video. Thumbs up.
I don't like 19's on these cars, doesn't matter what the factory puts on these cars... Civic type R comes with 20" wheels, but everyone switches to 18's because that looks and performs best.
How... do you stay squatted like that so long. oh my goodness.
Doing "takes" of the video and not the whole thing at once
Do you not realize how YOUNG he is??
I'm looking at a 18x8 +42. 5x114.3mm 73.1mm rim or a 18x8 +45 5x114.3mm 73.1mm rim. what size tire would give me the best poke style like yours for each option
id really appreciate the help
None of those will give you any poke as they'll sit sunken in. Those are very oem-like fitments.
@@TheShaddix ok thank you for ur help I appreciate it
How do you achieve a lot of poke/ stance look With 18x9.5. And what color rims would go with a black car
Check out that site I mentioned, it'll answer all your questions.
Great info
Do you have a part number or a link for those red hub centric rings? Thanks
Just search eBay for red aluminum hubcentric rings, they'll show up. Just make sure it says RA on them, that's what I have.
TheShaddix Okay cool thank you man. Nice car by the way! Just picked up a 19 WRX myself.
Will a 215/50 17 tire with a 17x7 35 offset work fine for a winter setup on a 2019 wrx premium?
Can't find red or black aluminum hub centric rings for my WRX 18. Any chance anyone can share the link? Tnx
18 9.5 +22 you think that will rub or go with +35? By the way what wheel pattern you get i don’t see the exact one wrx use on the website.
Btw ur car made me like these wheels alot
@@dezi504 22 offset gives you a deeper face. 35 will look flatter but fit better on stock fenders. 22 offset will rub for sure without rolling and pulling the fenders. It's the same fitment as mine, but mine just stretches the tire an extra inch.
I will literally pay you to do this same setup on my wrx
I don't offer that kind of service
Do you think your wheel and tire set up would fit on a 2015 Wrx with stock suspension setup? I could roll the fenders if needed
It'll be a nightmare unless you do a bunch of roll and pull.
Just be clear you said at the 5:00 min mark that of you got those tires with the stock fenders they wouldn’t have fit?
Are you talking about just the tires? Or the whole wheel setup? On stock body this setup does not work at all.
looks good!
What is your front spoiler sir? and where did you get them?
Bro I'm planning to buy 18x9.5 +22offset with 245 35 tires on it. What modifications do i need to do to make it fit. Do you think camber my coilovers enough? Thanks
For that offset you'd have to do a lot of fender work. Not as much as for mine, but for sure a roll and pull, plus a bit of shaving here and there.
My STI limited came with 19’. Not really a fan of them
99% of people who got their car with 19's switch to 18's. It's very rare to see anyone going 19's on wrx/sti. It just doesn't look right with such a slim tire.
