That knob under pre computed effects beside boost. Turn to the right to add beef for kicks and 808s and to the left to remove it for hats and shit. *edit It's the "eq" knob
Waveshaper or Saturn on the 808. Saturn if you have it. No limit to creativity, but the craziest 808s I've seen stick to at most four notes, so don't overcomplicate the bass line itself.
- There is one thing every single human has done in their lifes, at least once. - Loved somebody? - No. - So what is it? ... *made that mf square on the envelope tab*
I believe the reason why is exactly the problem Navi was having with the "cut itself" function. When you turn on the envelope, the cut itself won't work. If you make the square envelope, it cuts itself off automatically because there is no tail; the sample only plays for the length of the note. The direct wave plug in seems like a better solution.
Direct Wave is one of the most slept on plugins in FL Studio. I forget exactly how to do it, but I remember seeing a video on how to use it to sample VST instruments to save CPU.
Yeah it can allow you to replace your plugin and sample every key instead. Really helpful also if you are collabing and the other producer doesn't have a specific plugin
I used to box my 808s. The purpose isn't so much to cut the tail but just another way to prevent bleeding in some cases. When I used it it was mostly on a case by case basis when needed I'm which case I would drag all the notes out to preserve the amount of tail wanted whole still preventing bleeding. It was basically another way of using cut itself. After awhile I figured out that I could make a really small cutoff note at the end with the velocity all the way down. Which is the way I do it now on my MPC. Only I don't use samples anymore. I build custom 808s out of a sub preset on TubeSynth for every beat now. A tutorial on building custom 808s would be awesome! If you haven't already done so.
Yeah I definitely hear you. Boxing your 808s is helpful, but at that point it becomes more of a sub bass than an 808 at that point. Luckily DirectWave gives you control so you get the best of both worlds
Hey dawg, I subscribed to the channel yesterday, cause I've been binging your content. Really dope and straight to the point. No unnecessary fluff and filler. Actionable and applicable tips 💯
wow. that envelope tip about not making it a square is amazing. I got that technique from a drill producer, where it's common to have the 808 shaped like a synth and I translated that into my trap beats. this makes it way better, thanks
Your channel is one of the best in this field, man! 🔥 Keep doing this, you are helping a bunch of begginers like me who are truly grateful with you. Shout out from Spain.
I've tried using DirectWave before to sample VSTs but never actually got into it 'cause it looks so confusing to me but this has opened my eyes to trying it again in other ways. you've been really helping me a lot, thank you so much
Thanks Ben! Yeah I find it annoying for some reason when people have themselves in a small corner, and yet nothing really interesting is happening on screen anyways
Hands down the best fl studio tutorials on TH-cam. Thanks again for always giving us quality, straightforward, and clear content. Ive been using fl studio for years and never realized just how little I know. The beats on my channel are going to be getting alot better.
😘 thank you man. It's always hard knowing whether I am just making yet another random tutorial in the sea of tutorials. I am happy to see comments like this
Great video! I saw this envelope thing where you turn ´hold´ all the way up at every other youtuber- and I really mean every other one...thanks for this helpful video. What do you think about a whole direct wave tutorial one day? ;)
Navie D you killing me bro.lol i suppose to take this day off from making beats. so i can come back refresh. i watched this and i wanted to get on fl studio and see what that direct wave is about. so i just took this video and put it in my favorites. i will watch tomorrow. you not gonna take my day off showing me all this stuff. lol great share my friend
Wow Master Navie coming in with gems! Thanks a lot! This has been a issue for me, many times I felt my 808 was drowning lol Keep up the amazing content brother 👌🏼
I’m lazy and just use the 808s in Flex, but these are some real knowledge gems. Especially using DirectWave for oneshots is what I’m going to experiment with. I’m still curious about your reverb game, which makes your beat sound so full with not that many layers. Hint.
Hey man great tutorial. Just curious, what’s your background in music production? You seem to know everything pretty well in and out and was interested in knowing if your self taught or school based.
You should actually make put your hold all the way up and the rest of them down, then if you want your 808 to have a tail just turn up the out knob it will also prevent your 808’s from bleeding into a upcoming pattern selection without 808’s in the playlist. Dope video tho👌🏼
I only have headphones to monitor so maybe that's the reason but sometimes when I make 808 patterns it sounds great and in key in my headphones but when I listen to it through my phone it sounds off key maybe it's because I can't hear the fundamental notes through my phone speakers because it's too low and I can only hear the odd harmonics(or even) which I guess sounds off without the actual fundamentals. Also, it usually happens when I'm working with clean 808s which doesn't have a lot of saturation or distortion. It's not a problem because I fix it by changing the notes but it's a weird thing because something that sounds in key suddenly sounds off in other devices.
Bro maybe start sound design tutorials too, I don't wanna use other producers drumkits and I guess other producers too want to have their own unique sounds. Just an idea :)
@@NavieD You can focus on individual sounds by making a series on it like kick, snare, tonal shots, etc. I'm really excited about this bro. Not many good channel out there going indepth on sound design.
There's a so much easier way to boost your 808s just click on the sample and click the second icon on the effects area and turn the boost knob up, it also has a soft clip too so u can add grit your 808s without degrading it.
Navie pls help in this when i try to apply the slide notes to my 808’s i cant hear none of them like i didnt even put the note in the first place please help !!!!!
I wonder how many years it wil ltake for you to finally adjust your desktop and mic sound properly so the desktop sound isnt 30db louder and i have to turn my sound down every time
Do you have any secret 808 tips that you wanna share?

DirectWave has a built in tuner in it if you right click the 808 zone. It drops it down a few octaves on the keyboard though.

Every fuckin time hahahha

😅😅I've done it using 808 as bassline

Yeah it can allow you to replace your plugin and sample every key instead. Really helpful also if you are collabing and the other producer doesn't have a specific plugin
You right click on vst and convert to instrument
Michael from "In The Mix" has a GREAT tutorial on how to do this!
Wow using direct wave is going to be such a game changer. Thank you for this!
No prob Ian! It definitely can help you get more control of your 808s
@@NavieD Oh man when you were talking about that square envelope shape I was like 😳

Hmmm maybe I should do a full tutorial on DirectWave, cuz you are right. It's pretty confusing
For the square, I drag out the notes. It's mainly because I don't like the tail at the end of the pattern. Otherwise, leaving it is fine.
I hear you. It's definitely a useful thing to do, especially if the beat needs it. But I guess my thinking is that at that point it's no longer an 808
Good Bles..Great Video

Another fix for the overlapping 808 problem is to put a super short slide note with 0 velocity at the end of the 808 note. Hope this helps!

Glad I can help my lovely friend
You can use the perfect square envelope and still let the 808 ring out if you make the note long enough ( if there is enough room to let it ring out )
For sure, but I guess with my method, you get a tail with every note, no matter how long or short

I just wanna add to the square technique: the 808 still preserves its tail as long as the note is long enough for the tail to be played.
Ah, true, true. I guess the way I see it used most commonly is to make the note end abruptly

So, is normalization similar to compression? if not, why not?
No sir. Normalization is just an overall volume boost. Compression actually changes the shape of the waveform and makes it different
