I think I have to disagree with you in regards to there being filler. I felt the purpose of every single moment in the screenplay, and I think it probably the most well-crafted script of the entire year, a masterpiece I’d even say! Glad to hear you liked the score more than All Quiet; I also still can’t emotionally recover from Babylon being absolutely robbed lol
Read the book, loved it and the ending did not seem strange at all with the explanation given by the character. Things like this has happened in history.
yes indeed, Berger meaning mountain dweller, as opposed to Burger meaning citizen. Edward Berger, Edward of the mountains (or by the mountain). It is a very common German surname.
I think Fiennes is extremely likely now, mainly because of how extremely overdue he is. He is giving Gary Oldman vibes in terms of someone who was consistently great for so long and people are clamoring to give it to him for the right film. Ralph Fiennes has been nominated only twice so far, both for Best Picture winners that otherwise swept the Oscars (SCHINDLER'S LIST (which won 7) and THE ENGLISH PATIENT (which won 9)). Talk about rough luck in terms of not coming along for the sweep, and that too TWICE. On top of that, he has a cameo in another dominant Oscar movie: THE HURT LOCKER, which won 6 Oscars.
I like the movie, especially Fiennes performance. I can see Fiennes winning, but not the movie. I like the intent of being inclusive, but the ending no spoilers went a little far. I also like that it admitted that popes have been flawed people in the past. I would not root for this to win, but I enjoyed it more than Dune 2 and Sing Sing.
Well the ending was in the book, so it was being a faithful adaptation, but also, the intent was not to be inclusive. The intent was to show the difference between a man who chose to “sin” and one who did not choose to “sin”.
Respect and love to all movie fans here, but this constant obsession with Oscars and awards is tiring. Just enjoy the movies. No need for awards. Seesh!
A satisfying watch? This is a piece of fiction contrived for those who are ignorant of the Catholic Faith and contemptuous of its history and traditions.
If you actually knew history, you’d know that the Catholic Church has done more harm to the world than any other organization. They’ve killed more Bible believers than any other religious system.
Why are all those parishes claiming bankruptcies again? What is the world's biggest stockholder? Organized religions are for braindead cultists. The movie was entertaining and great fun. I left with a big smile on my mug.
I would disagree. It’s a point of growth for Lawrence and underlines the difference between actively choosing to “sin” and not being given the choice in “sin”.
Jonathan from TheFilmDrunk the type of guy to open a bag of chips with scissors
They're not popes electing a new pope. It's a conclave of cardinals.:)
Cool

This has me even more excited to see it. Can Fiennes be a real contender?
Yes
It will get heavily nominated, but it won't win a lot. Screenplay and Actor are its best shots, especially the former. I liked it, though. 8.5/10

it's not burger, it's berger

Colman Domingo
Ain’t no way people were ever seriously considering Fiennes would stand a chance of winning over Domingo and Brody wtf

Great film until the end

Is George Clooney in it

Sounds satisfying to me, in that case
I understand your anger but I'm not surprised by the ending result
The ending ruined the movie
