@@DatHughJass you have to keep calling Campbell until he says "Is there some reason you cant use the second controller?" - then he says you can try blowing up (or shooting, IDR) the two statues. Regardless if you think the boiler room ends the run, I think its incredible that that's the only part where its questionable and everything else is 100% possible. Well done man.
Well, I think from my memory, you do not have control of Snake any time he is on a ladder. He just climbs to the top or bottom in a mini cut scene. And he already said cut scenes dont count because you dont control Snake. So no steps as far as the ladder goes. Now if you actually crawled up or down manually maybe it can be questionable. I'd say the shuffling along the ledge in the furnace room does not violate the spirit of the challenge. A challenge run should not make finishing the game impossible, merely add additional challenges to the game. I'd go so far as to say that simply pushing the directional button should have sufficed. There is no point to an impossible challenge run, aside from seeing how far you can get before the run dies, and that may be fun to some.

What a well designed game. Your playthrough would've ended if there wasn't the claymore and the 6 door glitch in the 29 floors part. Brilliant. Insta sub
It's mad just how well a lot of things lined up in order to make this possible. The body armour's earliest spawn point being right before the Comms Tower is another good example
Small thing : You can shoot in first person view at the final part of the game (just keep pressing TRIANGLE). Unlike the socom and Famas, you can use the weapon in first person view. That help a lot getting more aiming precision.
In challenges with specific rules like this, I believe if the game forces you to do what you're trying to avoid doing, then you doing it doesn't count as a failure.
Fair dues, kudos... if you had told me back in 99 when I first sat down and played this game that one day someone would complete it without taking a single step... I woulda laughed so hard... was great to watch though well done again.

I really watched every single second of your hilarious video just now and time flew by as it was nothing. Gives me the same feeling as when i was bought MGS for christmas when I was 8 or 9… before I was gifted it I’d read the strategy guide that came with a playstation magazine over and over again, obsessed. When I finally played the game I skipped all the cutscenes, had no idea what was going on & only thanks to that guide had any real idea where to go (didn’t help that I no longer had that guide by the time I got the game). I finally completed it with likely over 100 alerts & wussed out on the torture sequence so I got the stealth camo in the end. Then I could finally play it my way. Thinking back to it, I get the same sense of enjoyable frustration that this challenge gives me and it just makes me smile, cheers man you’re pretty good Tl;dr: subbed
Rest assured I read it all, as I always do. I'm not miles off the same as you, but I played the demo over and over because the game hooked me right away. And then the full game scared me and I was too nervous to walk out of that Darpa Chief's cell (since that's where the demo ended) tl:dr Thank you :)
Im just gonna say this: If the blast furnace bit is a spot where people think the run should die, then the whole punch thing would also 100% count, as your moving your legs in the animation of the punch and moving forward, so technically THAT would count as a step too much like the blast furnace jiving, thus the run died at the very beginning and probably would die at the stairs with the camera from the beginning of the run even if you didnt get the ration at the very start. So either you accept the blast furnace jiving and thus accept the punching movement too, or you reject both. You cannot accept one and not the other if you're going to be that picky over what counts as a "step".
This video is a blessing, congrats on earning a new subscriber! The presentation is so relaxed and easy to follow thanks to your excellent writing and voiceover. I appreciate that you never skipped over something, nor did you spend too long explaining something. It's just right :)
I would say at first I cringed at the idea of "not taking steps" but once you got rolling I saw you were honest about the challenge. I wouldn't take something small that absolutely demands you "step" to proceed like that ledge as challenge-breaking, that just seems ridiculous. Well done!
I forgot how many cool little different details were in this game. No wonder I loved it so much as a kid. Also wow, what a run. Well done! I can't imagine how frustrating it would have been...!
Freaking awesome! I used to play this one over and over. As the credits rolled I'd start up the game again (so literally over and over). I adore this game and the "experiences" I had playing it. My last play through of MSG1 was about the same length of time it took Solid Snake to come back in MGS4 (10 years?). What an incredible coincidence. It was as if you'd popped in an old Mario Bros game and the shrubs and grass had died in real time. Ahhh. Metal Gear Solid. A friend when there were too few. Thanks for this video! What a hilarious accomplishment.
This was like listening to Richard Aoyade complete the game. Absolutely brilliant! I’d say give an allowance for the steps along the ledge. It’s meant to be a challenge and the game doesn’t stop this by being difficult, it stops it by not being designed for this type of movement. The Famas shuffle is a winner for me.
Fantastic. Love any sort of challenge run and these are very well made and easy to watch. Looking forward to more, channel should be massive in no time!
I've been playing MGS since the beginning. Have played each game so many times.. I have just now heard of this... challenge? ROFL it's blowing my mind hahaha.
Before the video started I paused and thought of the run-killers. I came up with: 1. How is he going to cover the distance to get close enough to throw the grenades in the 1st Vulcan Raven fight? 2. How the hell is he going to beat the Ninja? 3. How is he going to deal with the wall shimmy in the crane area? Ok so the wall shimmy is pretty much impossible. But you had a good try. And I never even thought about how difficult the stair climb chase would be. So cool that the Boba skip solved it! All in all, a great video. Not even being sarcastic when I say: You are a true gamer
Dude i happened to watch the whole video sitting on the toilet and by the time i fisnished watching all the video i felt a really strong urge to not to take a single step ,i swear i was about to crawl my way out(not kidding ,it was subconssyous), that shows the quality and effort you made in this challenge.
Although it's a great game and one of my favorites I only finished it 3 times and of course without considering doing the run in prone cuz it's would be impossible or at least possible on some areas with carefully planning your moves and a lot of time. But you proved that as they say "where there is a will there is way" and done the impossible. Congrats ,a really great video , loved your commentary as well and the effort you put and can't wait to see you next video!!
There’s another strategy for beating REX that I always used as a child but have never seen a speed runner use. Albeit I haven’t watched a ton of speed runners. If you position Snake under Rex in a specific way you can dodge the laser and Rex will eventually pause allowing Snake to just stand still and take aim at Rex from underneath. I don’t know if this would work whilst crawling but it’s worth a try.
Rewatching this again after having completed the game is a true pleasure, I can appreciate what you managed to do a lot more now that I understand the game personally, and I am even more impressed. Now I guess I need to finish the rest of the games you've played, huh?
I think shuffling along side a scripted wall slide should fall into the same category as ladders, depending on the game, it might be avoidable, but it's not the same as walking normally
This was such a great concept man and such good quality from your delivery, humour, pace and production quality. Yo channel gonna git huge. And it totally counts 🥇
I’d have to say that if the maneuver you used in the furnace room is considered a “challenge breaker” then the punch maneuver you used during the entire run would have to fall into the same category. Both cheese movements without necessarily taking a step by utilizing the games mechanics. An interesting & fun video.
Proud of you! Exciting to watch your progress and support your efforts. A lot of goofy challenge stuff that can be done in Metal Gear games...what could be next?
The man himself has arrived! Thank you very much, well I will no doubt try MGS2 Stepless at some point, but I am finishing my final original idea first off on a FF9 challenge run :)
Well I had to fail first in order to succeed, I tried this a year ago before Boba Skip was discovered. That first attempt took 2 weeks total to record, voice and edit, but it only got up to the Comms Tower. This time I'd say it took a month, with me working on it 3 or 4 evenings a week (to fit around work and family) but I had more prior knowledge and research going into it this time. I spent a lot of time in the Blast Furnace (days) looking for anything else to skip that cat walk, but I found nothing useful.
How in the heck are you missing subscribers? Your content is good as gold and you'll be getting some huge numbers with this quality of content soon. Subscribed and am glad I've found this channel
I mean, I would consider that to be taking steps, but the video was so entertaining that I'm fine with it. Pretty high quality, glad to see it blowing up the way it is.
Thank you, it would be crazy if you're right! I tried to advertise elsewhere, but so far the TH-cam algorithm has helped with this video more than I have. Either that or someone shared it some where I 😊
This really brings back so many memories. The PlayStation 1 was my system of choice back in the day. I'd like to see a run of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but where you kill as many on screen characters as you can. I used to play Mos Espa that way. A tip if you attempt it, lure the guards out of town one by one before ganking anyone else.
In the car chase bossfight you can shoot while in first person by holding both triangle and square at the same time, this will grant you with more precision, making the fight way easier
Bro you are a True Gamer. Just contemplating the amount of attempts each segment of these videos takes is unfathomable Effort that will never be seen in order to be quantified
The main reason that single punches were considered ok is because there is usually always a noise with each step, but that noise doesn't happen with punches. Thanks a lot, appreciate it

I was anticipating the boba skip, but uh it's "bo-ba" not "bob-ah"
Wow man, that is seriously impressive. Can't wait to see more!
Dude i happened to watch the whole video sitting on the toilet and by the time i fisnished watching all the video i felt a really strong urge to not to take a single step ,i swear i was about to crawl my way out(not kidding ,it was subconssyous), that shows the quality and effort you made in this challenge.
I had to edit out Snake using the toilet, you don't wanna know how it went. But thank you very much :)
Seeing Snake get into a crawling position the moment guards start shooting at him, I lost it 😂
Although it's a great game and one of my favorites I only finished it 3 times and of course without considering doing the run in prone cuz it's would be impossible or at least possible on some areas with carefully planning your moves and a lot of time. But you proved that as they say "where there is a will there is way" and done the impossible. Congrats ,a really great video , loved your commentary as well and the effort you put and can't wait to see you next video!!
Loved the video. Can't believe its actually possible to beat this game without stepping. Looking forward to future videos
I loved this challenge! Doing things like this makes you discover new details of the game and its mechanics. Well done!
Finally, Snake figured out a way to get past the guards without them hearing the clapping of his ass cheeks
Why are you so awesome?
So proud of you, Nathan. This video is so well edited and voiced. I am in awe of you right now.
You big lug. Thanks a lot though, we will be Streaming Crash Bandicoot 4 together at some point soon no doubt!
@@NGPlusVideos You better believe it!
Rewatching this again after having completed the game is a true pleasure, I can appreciate what you managed to do a lot more now that I understand the game personally, and I am even more impressed. Now I guess I need to finish the rest of the games you've played, huh?
The ledge trick is the same as the single punch to inch forward trick.
Congratulations. What a amazing challenge. Love it. Thanks for this.
I think shuffling along side a scripted wall slide should fall into the same category as ladders, depending on the game, it might be avoidable, but it's not the same as walking normally
23:33 best part of the video
"Not going to crawl after a rat so we fire a missile at him instead"
Holy smoke, you have patience, man.
I just played through this game for the first time and I cannot imagine attempting this.
This was such a great concept man and such good quality from your delivery, humour, pace and production quality. Yo channel gonna git huge.
And it totally counts 🥇
This was very enjoyable to watch. Good job on completing the challenge!
Thanks a lot, glad it was enjoyable. I appreciate the feedback and sub 😊
Great job man very impressive I have been a MGS fan for over 20 years and I have never even thought or seen anything like this! Way to go!!
I think there should be an exception for spots in the game it gives you no other option, so I think the loophole is fine.
I’d have to say that if the maneuver you used in the furnace room is considered a “challenge breaker” then the punch maneuver you used during the entire run would have to fall into the same category.
Both cheese movements without necessarily taking a step by utilizing the games mechanics.
An interesting & fun video.
I can't even remember how many time I said "WOW" watching this video..this is INCREDIBLE! great job!
Thank you, I appreciate it. I had to fail before I could succeed, so this video was basically a year in the making 😅
You can also spam R1 when running across the floors that make your footsteps louder to make no noise at all.
This was majorly impressive. Bravo!! Bravo!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
you can actually dodge ocelots bullets by ducking and leaning left or right in first person.
This brings back memories, I didn't know any of the boss tricks. The psychic boss was hell.
How do you have only 800 subs, you should have 100 times that with content like this
Wow, thanks a lot, we had about 200 before I released the Metal Gear Solid video. 4 weeks later and we're close to 900! It's been pretty crazy!
Love this video! now i want to play the game again being thankful for each step i take.
Wow. Such a Masterpiece of a video. This channel is highly underrated!
Oh wow, thanks so much, it's a fairly new channel so I understand not being highly rated, but I do appreciate what you said 😊
@@NGPlusVideos How long did the whole process take?
Well I had to fail first in order to succeed, I tried this a year ago before Boba Skip was discovered. That first attempt took 2 weeks total to record, voice and edit, but it only got up to the Comms Tower.
This time I'd say it took a month, with me working on it 3 or 4 evenings a week (to fit around work and family) but I had more prior knowledge and research going into it this time. I spent a lot of time in the Blast Furnace (days) looking for anything else to skip that cat walk, but I found nothing useful.
Step
noun
1.
an act or movement of putting one leg in front of the other in walking or running.
By definition alone, blast furnace is valid imo.
Def deserved a sub for this one. You’re gonna blow up with this format. 👍
A tip if you attempt it, lure the guards out of town one by one before ganking anyone else.
ı thought you had thousands of subs before taking a look at your channel, nice job mate.
Thanks, high praise! I'm relatively new with these videos, just a few months so far 😁
I say the ledge section is allowed the way you did it, as I don't think that's much different than the standing single punch to move forward slightly.
24:52 "With the scanner destroyed, it means Liquid has to reveal himself"
Bloody hell, I don't remember that part of the game 😳
The crazy thing is that you can beat the scanner part with the chaff without taking a step he made a meal of it
I'm assured by the speedrunners that only works on easy mode 👍
For those who didn't notice, I was being rude 😂
13:19 I see you, I hear you, and I respect what you're doing.
So I basically a Snake can finish MGS.. Who would have figured?
I’m super excited to see your next run! Hopefully it will be soon good luck and happy gaming my friend.
yooo,i didn't notice that u only had 300 subs.nice content broo👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you, I'm still in disbelief, as we had less than 200 subs before this video! 😅
@@NGPlusVideos keep up the good work👍🏼
loved the challenge loved the presentation
Thanks a lot 😄
In the car chase bossfight you can shoot while in first person by holding both triangle and square at the same time, this will grant you with more precision, making the fight way easier
Runs like this should never die. They should only ever accrue failure points - "I jumped X times in my no jump challenge" type deals.
Wow this is awesome!!! Really great job, man!
I speak for everyone here when I say: *YOU'RE PRETTY GOOOOOOD* !
Bro you are a True Gamer.
Just contemplating the amount of attempts each segment of these videos takes is unfathomable
Effort that will never be seen in order to be quantified
I would say it is a legit strategy for sure :) if it isn't is single punching also steping? xD I loved the video, Very impressive!
The main reason that single punches were considered ok is because there is usually always a noise with each step, but that noise doesn't happen with punches. Thanks a lot, appreciate it
