What a timely video for me, I am currently reading a book about ambergris called "Floating Gold: A Natural (& Unnatural) History of Ambergris". Very fascinating read! Also love you two together, Sarah is a stunner!
Real ambergris has a way of wrapping the different notes up in little bubbles and making them swirl around one another, disappear only to reappear, giving spices a shimming effect. There’s no real substitute imo, and I find it fairly easy to tell between the real and created accord. Agree that ambroxan is nothing like it. Ambra Aurea is my favorite example. A good suggestion for your past myrrh video too!

Agree with the love in the comments for Les Indemodables. Ambre Supreme is gorgeous stuff, and a 10% real ambergris dose is pretty crazy for a non-indie scent. 🙌🏻
I like Les Indemodables fragrances for real ambergris-- particularly Escale Indonesie and Ambre Supreme. They're both beautiful wears while highlighting the natural ingredient. Silence the Sea (by Strangelove NYC) also really highlights the note and the full 'on the sea' experience.
There's no ambergris in Francesca Bianchi's fragrances. She says so in her ethics page. She also mentions that she'd advertise ambergris if she did use it so her vegan customers would know.
I love ambergris Q : have you ever smelt pure ambergris oil ? I had some , in the gulf area, we use it as a base mixed with pure oud oil, rubbed together and then applied to skin, and some on clothes also. After that you spray your favorite perfume all over 😊, and you finish with burning some expensive incense and standing over the incense burner that's on the floor to get bathed in a cloud of heavenly smoke. Now you are ready to go out 😊 Also we like to rub some pure musk oil in the mix 🤗
Love Auster, will try Auster. Soul and Squid still on my list. I'm not a big fan of marine fragrances, I really like some but I gravitate more to Ambers, woods, Tobacco, Oud, etc. Always a pleasure to see Sarah in the videos, thanks for the video Guys!!!

I looove this video so much !! I was so much looking forward to seeing your updated list. I love ambergris despite really being a very elusive scent. I only smell it in a very minute doses and once I spray-not even overspray- I get anosmic to it. FB Sex and Sea is only evident on clothes and the next day when I walk in to my closet. I read that ambergris is very unreliable to recreate it facets across patch variations, so Mrs Bianchi used a combination of Cetalox and Ambrox (just like Misenzir For Your Love) 😂.

I have Atlante and MagneticBlend1. Nice to know those have an ambergris feel. Ive already ordered whitewhale which got me sold on the brief/story. Im now looking at Alkout or Walk the Sea given your description in the video.
I need to hunt down more fragrances that use real ambergris so I can learn more about its smell. I don't think I've had much experience with the real deal but would like to be able to pick it out. I think I would definitely pick Walk the Sea as a reference as I'm pretty sure John uses the real stuff. I think that Spell 125 would be a good one too, just to get the full animalic punch of it.
AdP Colonia Ambra is unbelievable for the prices you can find it at. smells like a $350 fragrance (i believe it was hundreds of dollars upon release) but you can find testers under $100 easily. amazing, amazing juice and the performance is super strong as well.

I'm not sure if I'm getting a real sense of how ambergris is supposed to smell. Is it supposed to be animalic? The only fragrance I have from this selection is Ambre Nuit by Dior. For me it's a gorgeous sparkling amber fragrance. I don't get any animalic notes from it, at all.
I've smelled a couple of different grades of Ambergris at Jovoy Mayfair and it smelled like bad breath! I own Guerlain'sg Encens Mythique - the tall rectangular bottle - which I've read has real ambergris and have sampled Profumum Roma's Ambra Aurea.
I need to check it out I don't own it and hard to find his fragrances in my area of the world. Plus he doesn't have distribution in the states to not easy to find sadly! :(
I was curious if you’ve ever tried O Hira from SHL 777? It’s hard to find an accurate note breakdown, but I believe it does feature ambergris. It’s more about labdanum and resins however.
I have smelled all of their fragrances but never really talk about them as I don't have any except the one in this video and they are hard to find in the states near me so it's a bummer as I want to explore the brand! :)

Encens Mythique is such an underrated fragrance. So beautiful and gorgeous. Definitely one of the best from Les absolus d'orient collection, imo.
