  • (Part 1) At the end of the LotR-trilogy, when standing at the Grey Havens, Frodo reveals that he will be going with the last ship to leave Middle-Earth, to the shock and grief of his friends. (HD Blu-ray)
    This scene is so emotional, sad and heartbreaking, but still so beautiful and a perfect ending.

    I loved that moment when bilbos face seemed to come alive. Its like he became 10 years younger in an instant. You could also see it on the elves face, them basically thinking about just how incredible a race these hobbits truly are. He bore the ring for the better part of a century, gave it up willingly, and even now can smile and step forward with joy in his heart. Bilbo really is built different.

    Galadriel rebelled against the Valar and came to Middle-Earth some 7000 years ago, to seek new life and establish a realm of her own. In that time she has watched all her brothers and cousins die, empires rise and fall, the defeat of both Morgoth and Sauron, Silmarils passed on to the Earth, Sky and Water and, finally, the One Ring destroyed in Fire.
    Now her longing is ended and a ship is ready for her, as she is ready for it. Brings tears to my eyes.

That moment when he turned evil for half a second when Frodo was near with the ring broke my heart, because you knew that darkness he had been carrying all those years was still in him. At 1:55 you can see that Gandalf is wearing Narya ("The Ring of Fire"), one of the three Elven Rings. Círdan was its original keeper, but he gave it to Gandalf because he thought he could do more with it. We weren't able to see it throughout the trilogy because he was using magic to conceal it, but in this scene we're seeing through Frodo's eyes, and because Frodo has worn the One Ring and seen the Eye of Sauron, it cannot be concealed from him.

    • @ajchovanec
      @ajchovanec ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Ahmet Akgun It's an interesting question, but I'm pretty sure it's canon that he took Narya back to Aman, because the book also mentions that Frodo noticed him wearing it during their journey. In fact, Elrond and Galadriel probably took Vilya and Nenya with them too, as they were the bearers of those rings... If I had to guess, Gandalf probably gave Narya back to the elves once they arrived in Aman, as he would have had no further use for it. And the elves probably kept all three as keepsakes of their history in Middle Earth.

    At that time this masterpiece first came out, I was only 15 and only enjoyed battle scenes and spectacular moments. At that time I even felt boring after Sauron was defeated, thinling 'what is so important after all is over?'
    As time goes by and I got older, now I can fully appreciate what happened 'after the end'
    Even after the world is saved, and the great evil is gone, each of their life still goes on, toward divine land afterlife.
    This has also a meaning in our life. Even after any great event passing by, our lives still continue, until 'the true end of life'

    At 2:00, you can see Narya, the ring of fire on Gandalf's hand. One of 3 of the greatest rings of power, it was given to him by Cirdan the Shipwright because he recognized Gandalf's wisdom when he arrived in Middle Earth. Besides preservation, which I don't thing Gandalf used much, it had the power to kindle hope in the hearts of the free people to fight against evil.

    One thing I love about this series is the prop creators attention to detail, for those who've read the novels they'll notice that Elrond and Gandalf are wearing visible rings in this scene where they weren't there before. Its because in the novels the 3 elvish rings of power belonging to Elrond, Galadriel, and Gandalf are finally leaving Middle-earth. They don't mention it in the movie, but subtly show it.

    • @NATIK001

      Lothlorien and Rivendell are both eventually totally abandoned. The Havens of Lindon stay inhabited for many years after the end of LOTR as they remain one of the primary locations for the Elves to go into the west, in the books Cirdan is confirmed to stay in Mithlond until the last ship passes into the west. It's not defined when exactly that happens. The harbors and towns of Lindon appears to be left abandoned after the Elves leave, the only people to dwell in the region in any real numbers being the Dwarves of the Blue Mountains.
      As for other settlements of the Elves, some stay inhabited far into the Fourth Age as some of the Elves (Primarily the "Dark Elves"/Avari) refuse to heed the call to go west as they are too tied to Middle-Earth to give it up. However the Elves who don't go west eventually fade alongside their lands and settlements, so by the time the Elves are gone their settlements are too.

      Hardly. Several major illnesses cured, unfathomable agricultural yields, an endless stream of great art and literature, available for even the lowliest menial to see. Grand cities across the globe, populations booming. Magnificent palaces, Museums, Theatres and opera houses that make third age Minas Tirith look rather poor. We in the West live better, more prosperous lives than the men of Gondor ever did, and our technology are almost as powerful as the elves and Wizards of Middle-earth. I'd like to think Elrond and Aragorn would be impressed by the modern world if they were real.

    There's something powerful about what Galadriel says here. Especially with her inflection and the background music. She's announcing the end of the age of myth. While there are still some mythical elements in the world at this time, they are fading to history, and the world is becoming mundane. It's a great but sad conclusion to it all.
