    Get two of them, put one on each foot, and just hop around the yard. 🤣

    Is there any advantage/disadvantages to picking up the cores or leaving them spread on your lawn?

    I purchased the Yard Butler---well made----goes into the ground well---but is always plugged....Do you have any advice? I am in upstate ny---ground not dry----pretty damp----is it ok to just drive in the holes? I guess it goes down and makes the hole---but it never ejects plugs....thanks

    If you have hard to very hard soil use the longer tined yard Butler. If you have soft to very soft soil use the shorter tined garden weasel. If you happen to fall right in the middle I don’t know what to tell you. Think about that.I have the yard Butler and for me my soil has hardly any clay in it and what happens with the longer tine there’s more surface area causing friction and what ends up happening is that a long tine fills up with dirt and the soil is not hard enough to push that long plug out on the next push of my foot. 👍🏼

    If a fellow wanted to get a good workout he could do his whole yard. Hi Doc, actually looks like a handy tool. It could be used in places maybe where you could not get a standard size aerator, behind a bush, or for small trouble spots. Good video. Thank you.

    Your grass has come a LONG way in two years!! Huge fan, when I grow up and stop living in Overseas Base housing, I’ll buy a house and invest like you. Using and abusing the yard I have now, trial and error... using tips you provide. Thanks again for all you do, Doc! #SemperFi

    I tried a hand aerator years ago, and the soil would stick in the tube; so, no core; the tubes would just poke a hole in the ground.

  • @goodrabbi7176
    @goodrabbi7176 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I’m surprised no one mentioned it, including Doc. The yard butler seemed to have a bigger foot hole, which seemed to make it easier for you(Doc) to put your weight on it and drive it in. The hollow one barely had enough room for the ball of your foot to fit in there. Did this influence the end choice, or was it just the editing that made it seem that way?
    (I know I mixed pronouns, but I’m sure you get my drift :) )

    How do you keep these aerators from plugging up? That's a huge problem with my aerator.

    • @daiokaio
      @daiokaio 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I ran into this problem yesterday. If it takes a lot of force to push the tool in, then either you have a heavy thatch layer on top and/or your soil is very dry and needs to be watered first. I dethached my area first, then watered well for at least 10 min. Tines went in smooth after that. Good cores.

    This doesn't work sometimes for hard soil, clay soil, wet soil, the bottom also tends to dent when it's placed down on pavement or hard ground.

      I bought one of these yard butlers 5-6 years ago to treat 'hot spots' and love it. Had same issues until I realized it works better after a rain or watering. Also 1-2 times there was a rock that got wedged. But overall, great experience.
