  • How to level lawn bumps and ruts. Doc shows you how to level LARGE bumps and ruts in your lawn. www.howtowithdoc.com/level-bu... This is a bit different that a NORMAL leveling with sand. Large ruts and holes require more organic material so the grass will be encouraged to grow. If you use just sand, it will get hot and grass will not like the soil.

    Shoo, this takes perfectionism to a new level, but I'm into it. My lawn is SO lumpy. Drives me insane. Adding doing this to the list as I've been thinking of bringing in a steam roller... this is more my financial speed.

    Did my first leveling. Brand new home, 1 year old and had some insane bumps and ruts. Unfortunately I used a compost/sand mix with tons of sticks and rocks that I had to rake thereafter. Still have some left. I’ll do this method afterwards.

    yea its going to take me multiple years to fix my lawn, its had a tree blown out of it from a tornado, a boat parked on it for 3 years from previous owners who thought grass more or less equaled anything green, and original leveling done by a bulldozer in one pass quick as possible :) I actually twisted my ankle in a rut last year lol, but least its got grass and not just 100% clover, onion and other weeds now, thanks to you doc

    You covered depressions in the lawn, but what about high spots? Obviously just pounding them down would just compress the soil. I have a zoysia lawn in GA that is now a year old. It is really thick and already developing a heavy thatch layer. I have watch several of your superb videos and they are very helpful. Just did not know if I should consider detaching such a young lawn? I was going to cut it short, dethatch, put down a layer of haumichar, and then the 50/50 mix to level it out. Thanks again for the great work.

    Hi doc! Great vid as always. This video seems to indicate that grass in a rut you dump the mix into will actually grow up through the mix. My yard is in good health, but does have ruts, some as deep as 2 or 3 in. It's a cool season lawn; a mix of perennial rye grass, KBG, and tall fescue. Will it grow through that depth? Should I mow low before filling? Fill a little at a time, like 1 inch each? Should I just fill and seed instead? Help! Thanks!

    Hey, Doc. Great video. I have an issue in our front lawn of our new home. It was nice and flat until about a week ago and now it has a depression in the middle about 5 feet wide and 20 feet long. It looks like someone buried a horse there. It probably drops about 6 inches at the lowest point. The house was built last year. Is this just normal settling or could it be a more serious issue? I'm just trying to get the cause figured out. I don't want to fix and have it come back if there's another cause for it other than settling. Thanks for any info.

    Hey Doc, I just had a new backyard kitchen and dinning area put in my yard. I also had the entire backyard put in with Tiff 419 Hybrid Bermuda SOD installed. Additionally, they replaced the irrigation system. It's been two years now and the ditches they dug to install the irrigation system have settled and created long ruts for lack of a better description. I don't want to cut out the grass and back fill with top soil and I know if I dump top soil on top of the grass it will probably kill the grass. My question: is there a correct way to raise the turf without killing the grass?

  • @Jonofthejungle26
    @Jonofthejungle26 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Sometimes, you have to sift everything. I use a rubber concrete float to break up the chunks and push them through the screen. Where I used to live the soil was all bad fill, so I got into the habit of sifting the soil that I dig up, and mix in some garden soil before I put it back.

  • @sandraroberts1931
    @sandraroberts1931 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's great...how do you fix a sloping lawn that is beginning to slope toward the house in some areas? Do I have to cut the sod and remove soil underneath? The slope helps to keep rain from the house foundation and as the lawn gets older it is uneven with dips and new shallow hills forming. Just enough to flood my front door sidewalk and enough to wash out the soil under my front door steps so that the first step to the door is very high now. The soil has 'sunk' underneath. I ripped my knee joint out getting up this step due to the height...

    Doc, I have an area where a large tree was removed right in the middle of my grass. If I used the 50/50 sand and potting soil, could I add grass seed to it and expect good results after aerating?
