This is basically the ONLY tutorial on YT that shows how to make an armor ring. Coming up with the segments alone is a brain buster. Thanks mate this helps a lot :)
This is awesome man, thanks for the simple build. I own the template for gauntlet version 2, but haven't acquired all the metal necessary to build it. This a budget build and is much better for my needs.
Its a bit late for this response but for anyone else that's also late, he purposefully doesn't use any specialist tools if it can be avoided as to not scare new people away.
Fantastic build, and great tutorial on this. For something that looks so complex and unique, it shouldn't be to hard to build. Only thing i would maybe suggest, and i will do it to mine, is maybe add 1 more of the scale pieces on top of the finger towards the 2nd last knuckle. It will add in covering the 2nd ring, and bring the piece closer to the fingernail covering the finger a little more. Its just my amateur opinion. I am about to go an purchase a few of your plans and get started in the new year. Keep them coming sir!!
Love the tutorials. I'm excited to start work on the gauntlets v1 once I finish my current chainmaile project. Any chance you can get us a quick video on where you source your supplies, like the sheet metal for the gauntlets and the leather gloves you base them on? I know things like the tools and rivets are just laying around, but the leather squares and such are the things we are curious about! Keep the videos coming!
I have leather laying around from previous projects. Pretty sure I got it all on ebay, with some from my sister's collection of stuff. Leather gloves either from ebay or sometimes Walmart. They have Thinsulate brand which works well (although they only carry them in the winter months). My metal I generally get from Ebay as well, from Shapiro Metals (ssshapirometals is the seller name). You can also do a search in your area for a metal supply. They can typically get you stainless for about half what you pay online.
Really nice work I have been looking for someone on you tube to give help to the new people trying this with out spending a lot of money. I'LL be watching all your video's thanks James
I get a lot of requests and questions about the music I have in the background of my videos. The song "Armor of Arius" is now available on my website www.armortemplates.com I wasn't able to make the file a free download but I made it as low as I could at 99 cents for anyone interested.
It looks amazing! I am currently looking for a very specific ear cuff, and I might be able to shape this into the ear cuff I want. Thanks for the amazing Video!
Man... would you put This ring To sale like the shoulder? I'm brazillian but i like forge and armors so if you put it To sell and its not expensive (very much :p) i would buy it :)
Hey David - I just found your work, I'm very impressed and I might have just found my next hobby thank you! Could you possibly go into a little more detail on how you were doing your rivets with small nails, specifically the other side (not the head of the nail)? Is there a specific nail you use that's a more workable metal? Thanks man
I use both roofing nails and common nails, but mostly roofing nails. All you have to do is cut them off a little above the surface of the metal, and then hammer down on top. I have a mini tutorial on rivets here: th-cam.com/video/kzXHY_oRnuQ/w-d-xo.html
Hello Mr guyton I purchased the first 3 templates from u r online download store but my hard drive was formated and the PDF'S were deleted. So I was wondering if there Was a way to re download them with out repaying?
Hey I've had a go at making a few of your things and was wondering what nails you use for your rivets? Are they stainless? Galvanised? Or bright? Cheers
+Ægir Bladeworks I have some solution to blacken stainless steel but I have shied away from using that. Never used anything other than paint. I like the paint because it's safe and easy
You could add a little metal if you wanted, however keep in mind that your other fingers need to be able to move around the ring. I think of this as more aesthetic than functionally protective.
Can't help you much if you don't have a credit card. I can't find it anywhere locally, and I buy it online. If you have PayPal, you can get it from Ebay. That's where I get mine.
+Twisted Endings Productions No but you can check out my DIY Armoring Tools video here th-cam.com/video/Sm9-hFwi-aM/w-d-xo.html to see the stuff I use. Also, I don't hide any special tools or trick from the camera. All of the videos show exactly what tools and methods I use to make each piece of armor.
Ray Sanchez Any nail will work for a rivet, or you can just use steel rod. You just need to make sure that the hole that you drill is slightly bigger than the shaft of the nail/rod. To make a rivet you need to put the nail/rod in a vise and hammer the top of it down around the edges until it mushrooms out slightly. Then place it though the holes in the parts, and repeat the mushrooming process for the top side. I do this many times throughout most of my videos, so watch one or two of the other ones and you will see how I do it.
Hi David, i 13 and from England and i love your videos. I have chosen to make your dragon ring for a school project. The only problem is, i cant buy your templates. I've tried making my own from watching the video, but i just cant get it right. I was just wondering maybe you could send me some measurements or a basic template structure. Thanks Jack.
You can drill your holes before bending the metal, or if you need to bend it first, you can put it over a piece of wood that fists inside of the shape. In this case, a dowel rod
I have it complete, but I no longer have the program I use to put them into a PDF file. I need to purchase it again. I hope to have it available before Monday.
I'm currently making a gauntlet and the house nails are not working well as rivets as you used is there a softer yet durable material that will work instead?
you could try copper, but it will likely not stand up to a lot of abuse. Brass is harder, but it's also brittle after hammering and difficult to use as rivets. If you are having problems with the nails bending over as you hammer them, try shortening the rivet (you don't need much material coming through the hole). Also, take care to hammer with the rounded side of a ball peen hammer, and hammer only around the edges. It takes a bit of practice but nails are a very easy way to rivet once you get the hang of it.
I am actually trying to put together some giveaways, and I would like to give it away. However I have learned that there are a lot of strict rules about holding contests and giveaways. I am still trying to look into that
Would 18 gauge sterling silver work? I was looking at 18 gauge copper and it seems so thick to cut with metal cutters like yours, however, I have never tried lol.
for something this small, yes, you can get small sheets of brass at a hobby store. For most of my other stuff, you'll need bigger pieces than a hobby store will have. I usually buy online at Amazon or eBay, but you can also get sheet metal at Lowes or Home Depot, or a metal supplier in your area
typically that is the cause, yes. Try making them a little shorter. Also try to focus your hammer hits around the edge to get a real "mushroom" shape going. Don't hammer straight down on the top of it or you will often get that folding over effect.
Yes, available for all ebook reading devices like Kindle, iPad, Sony Reader, etc. If you don't have a device like that, there is also an option to download the books in HTML format, which allows you to read it from your computer.
I find it highy ironic you only came up with the gauntlet for the trailer of your second book and now you can buy the templates and get the books for free.
bronze is fine but it's very very rare and a lot more money than brass. You can use any metal you like, really. Steel or brass or stainless steel are the common metals for this stuff. 20 gauge, 18 gauge or 16 gauge for thickness
Ok I am going to try this out. Since I dont have any power tools, is 1mm thick stainless steel ok? I live in Germany and gauge isnt really used here. It would be between 18 and 20 gauge thickness.
I don't typically do that because I am so slow at making armor. That's why I do tutorials and templates instead. I will sometimes sell the pieces I make for the videos, or I may do some contests or giveaways. I have to think about it.
I was thinking more the smaller ones like the Ring. It seemed the longest thing was the liquid to dry. Yeah defiantly think about it, I would be very interested.
Do not buy anything from my site. My site is for people who work hard and appreciate the hard work of others. You can always use the tutorials to come up with your own design.
That's because I made the songs myself and they are not popular enough to show up in searches. both songs (the older one "Armor of Arius" and the new one "Calm Amid the Raging Waters") are available at www.armortemplates.com

I imagine somewhere in this man's home, is a trunk full of armour. like a boss chest or some shit. awesome.
So should i gather the raid party or will you, cause i dont know this clan very much
Every time I see these videos I think of the skyrim leveling drums and a little bar saying
You have increased blacksmithing
holy shit me too
Neil Crandall ha....
Neil Crandall i love that game it looks like what a dragon priest would wear
Every time I see this I think of the Bend Will shout
This is awesome man, thanks for the simple build. I own the template for gauntlet version 2, but haven't acquired all the metal necessary to build it. This a budget build and is much better for my needs.
This is THE coolest thing I've ever seen for its simplicity
Stumbled on your channel by accident and now I'm binge watching it. I think I'm going to try making this ring. Thank you.
Glad you like the videos! Welcome aboard!
you should look into Jewelers saws, they're only like 10$ and it may make cutting your pieces out a lot quicker (because of cleanup time)
Does this guy seem like he wouldn't already know about jeweler's saws? 🙄
Its a bit late for this response but for anyone else that's also late, he purposefully doesn't use any specialist tools if it can be avoided as to not scare new people away.

There- just did the purchase of the template, now for the materials :) Thanks for this, it looks inspiring!
Your armoring almost seems more like art than just simple hand protection, good job keep it up!
what a professional! what a skillful artist you are! I Admire this whole work, I just love it, your the best sir, you deserve more subs.

i will give you $20 to make me 10
It looks amazing! I am currently looking for a very specific ear cuff, and I might be able to shape this into the ear cuff I want. Thanks for the amazing Video!
Sounds interesting! Send me a pic of what you come up with.
hi, would you mind making a short instructional video on how to make a gauntlet jig?
thanks.
I will do that, but I explain it pretty well in my Version 1 Gauntlet Revisited video here: th-cam.com/video/EtWS8GbmLxo/w-d-xo.html
thanks :)
because its a beginner thing can it be free??
i would like it very much because i cant buy things online
I want to read your books, when I have some money to spare I'm buying all of your novels
the first book in the series is free in ebook format everywhere! Title is Might Hammer Down
Hey David, where do you buy leather sheets? If you know, then is it better to purchase leather online or in stores?
Man... would you put This ring To sale like the shoulder? I'm brazillian but i like forge and armors so if you put it To sell and its not expensive (very much :p) i would buy it :)
in the video, what did you mean when the word valentines while you were sanding the brass?
Hey David you should try to make Edward elrics automail arm

Hello Mr guyton I purchased the first 3 templates from u r online download store but my hard drive was formated and the PDF'S were deleted. So I was wondering if there Was a way to re download them with out repaying?
yes that's not a problem at all. Send me an email at d@davidjguyton.com
David Guyton thank u soo much Mr guyton
Can I just use any type of nail for the rivits, and would rivits u would use in a riviting gun look good
Hey I've had a go at making a few of your things and was wondering what nails you use for your rivets? Are they stainless? Galvanised? Or bright? Cheers
I mostly use whatever I find in the garage. The roofing ones are galvanized, but these are finish nails. Not stainless steel though,
I personally like to use a copper dowel and cut it with some hefty bolt cutters.
Have you thought about, or tried, using a patina solution instead of paint?
+Ægir Bladeworks I have some solution to blacken stainless steel but I have shied away from using that. Never used anything other than paint. I like the paint because it's safe and easy
Great video and keep up other great work!
Would you consider covering the side of the finger for more protection?
You could add a little metal if you wanted, however keep in mind that your other fingers need to be able to move around the ring. I think of this as more aesthetic than functionally protective.
thanks for the reply :)
How much does a sheet of 18 gauge brass cost generally? I am on a limited budget but want to make this for a friend obsessed with dragons.
for something this small, literally a few dollars.
David Guyton Where might I be able to get it? I don't have a credit or debit card so ordering is kinda tough
Can't help you much if you don't have a credit card. I can't find it anywhere locally, and I buy it online. If you have PayPal, you can get it from Ebay. That's where I get mine.
All right, thank you. Great job with these designs
If you don't have a debit or credit card you can use a temporary one from walmart if needed.
i'm going to make one for my gf ^^ thx for the tutorial
Bro same
Love this ring, I'm doing mine out of an old computor case side panel, with wire coat hanger rivets .
+clark davis that's certainly a great way to retire an old computer!
love ALL your stuff, great way to spend some time after 2 heart attacks within a 75 day span tho. But Im doin Some what better.
That's good to hear. I wish you all the best with your health and your armoring!
thanks
Hi David,
Do your templates have a list or the tools you use to make them? If not, can you provide a list? Thanks.
+Twisted Endings Productions No but you can check out my DIY Armoring Tools video here th-cam.com/video/Sm9-hFwi-aM/w-d-xo.html to see the stuff I use. Also, I don't hide any special tools or trick from the camera. All of the videos show exactly what tools and methods I use to make each piece of armor.

does anyone know how to drill a hole on that kind of hollow soft surface?
You can drill your holes before bending the metal, or if you need to bend it first, you can put it over a piece of wood that fists inside of the shape. In this case, a dowel rod
@@DavidGuyton drill before bending seems quite hard, but how can I grab it and makesure it is not moving? cause the ring is quite soft
When are you going to release the ring template?
I have it complete, but I no longer have the program I use to put them into a PDF file. I need to purchase it again. I hope to have it available before Monday.
Thank you for posting this video :D
are those for sale? i want to buy that ring
What is that pen like tool you use to trace the templates on the metal?
That's called an awl. It's just basically a really pointy thing with a handle. You could just as easily use a nail
PLEASE make the entire handpiece for this!!!
😁
I'm currently making a gauntlet and the house nails are not working well as rivets as you used is there a softer yet durable material that will work instead?
you could try copper, but it will likely not stand up to a lot of abuse. Brass is harder, but it's also brittle after hammering and difficult to use as rivets. Will try thank you
Thank you for your help David guyton I just finished it isn't perfect or pretty but it's not bad for first try thanks again for pointers and help.
Hi David, Why not put that ring to sell on your website?
I am actually trying to put together some giveaways, and I would like to give it away. However I have learned that there are a lot of strict rules about holding contests and giveaways. I am still trying to look into that
Would 18 gauge sterling silver work? I was looking at 18 gauge copper and it seems so thick to cut with metal cutters like yours, however, I have never tried lol.
Copper and silver should be about the same as far as cutting goes. 18ga is hard to cut in steel but for copper or silver it's pretty easy.
David Guyton thank you! I found the template to be very informative too.
@LanaLeon You're very welcome Lana!
where is it that you buy the metal to make this stuff? a craft store?
for something this small, yes, you can get small sheets of brass at a hobby store. For most of my other stuff, you'll need bigger pieces than a hobby store will have. I usually buy online at Amazon or eBay, but you can also get sheet metal at Lowes or Home Depot, or a metal supplier in your area
Hi! I just want to ask what nails you are using??
+Lone Bear Survival Any nails with a flat heat will work for rivets. I just used whatever I could find in the garage
ah ok because i tried it and they always folded over ! maybe they are to long..!?
typically that is the cause, yes. Try making them a little shorter. Also try to focus your hammer hits around the edge to get a real "mushroom" shape going. Don't hammer straight down on the top of it or you will often get that folding over effect.
How big was the thickness og the brass in mm?
I couldent find ant breastplate tutorials. Can you make one, like to go with a set, im building a suit for school and thats all i need
Yess!
please print a list of tools/equipment a beginner needs to get started
+Missy Rabbit I made a video for that: th-cam.com/video/Sm9-hFwi-aM/w-d-xo.html
David Guyton thank you
The books are digital downloads?
Yes, available for all ebook reading devices like Kindle, iPad, Sony Reader, etc. If you don't have a device like that, there is also an option to download the books in HTML format, which allows you to read it from your computer.
Where do you get your metal sheets?
+superbryerbros generally online, sometimes Lowes or Home Depot
Can you make a dragon headed ring??
no vendes tus armaduras y cosas así?
Y podría a ser alguna navaja o cuchillo oculto en los dedos como Mini cuchillo
I find it highy ironic you only came up with the gauntlet for the trailer of your second book and now you can buy the templates and get the books for free.
CrimsonAnihilator haha well, I need to promote my books somehow
jeah thank you for the information!!
in the video you said its for free but when I go on your page it tells me I have to buy it
+vlad nemteanu I never said this template was free. It includes all 3 of my books for free.
+David Guyton oh sorry for that am not S-o good with my english my fault sorry again
+David Guyton Buț i really like your videos
can you use wire hangers as ribbits to
it could probably be done, but they are thin and will be hard to use.
ok
where do you get the brass from?
Only place I can find brass is online.I use ebay
ah ok, thanks
How high are the rough material costs for this ? Thanks for any answers.
probably only about $10 for this one. Maybe even less
+David Guyton OK I think I am going to try this one out then. I have never built something like this before. BTW I really enjoy your videos.
One more question. Except for brass, which metals would work best and how thick should they be ? Would bronze work well ?
bronze is fine but it's very very rare and a lot more money than brass.
Me podéis mandar un boceto del anillo. Por favor
would you consider selling or marketing some of your pieces?
I don't typically do that because I am so slow at making armor. That's why I do tutorials and templates instead. I will sometimes sell the pieces I make for the videos, or I may do some contests or giveaways. I have to think about it.
I was thinking more the smaller ones like the Ring. It seemed the longest thing was the liquid to dry. Yeah defiantly think about it, I would be very interested.
i wounder if i could make one
Where would a person find brass
up his or her br-ASS
that quality pun
Yep he is a blacks smithy
How Durable is the paint?
Once it's dry it's durable enough. Over time, it will wear off at some of the edges, but this will look completely natural when it happens.
I made it with tin can can you try it
cant find te ring on your website!! if the gauntlet is 3.99 the ring should be free.
+Joe Howard It should be free huh? Do me a favor and don't buy anything from my website. Thanks.
soorrry, if you look at complexity. should be free. should being the key word. but its not. still can't find the ring template.
sorry.
found it. is it us dollars
Do not buy anything from my site. My site is for people who work hard and appreciate the hard work of others. You can always use the tutorials to come up with your own design.
okay then. no 2.99 for you then
What are your books about?
+Taylor Kingct fantasy novels. Kind of like 300 meets Lord of the Rings. Look up "Mighty Hammer Down" on Amazon and check out some of the reviews.
+David Guyton Also whats the music you use in all of your videos i think it was armor of arius but when i search it i get biblical songs
That's because I made the songs myself and they are not popular enough to show up in searches. both songs (the older one "Armor of Arius" and the new one "Calm Amid the Raging Waters") are available at www.armortemplates.com
As the name of this metel??
Jafed Marin Brass
Master tin smith.
what about blueprints&
Can I have a copy of your dragon rider ring please
Song name?
Tim Totaal darude - sandstorm
i will have a full armor by holloween lol
Interesante!!!!!
I'm gonna make this out of old aluminum cans cx
+Ash Potato Roll your edges, some of his other videos talk about it. You'll have more structure to it as well avoiding cutting risks. : )
very easy and funny ok maybe for you
I don’t have toolsss 😩
This would be easy. But only If I knew how to use rivets...
xXShadowXxOmega rivets are easy to use
DissectedPig at the time I didn't realize how easy rivets were to use. I know how to use them now.
To me that's so fucking hard were can I fine those tools and materials.
Kareem Hamadeh seriously man, just look up jewelry stores in your area
as is tradition
покажи силку на схему
PleasePlease make a video about the project Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm only 14 and I have no way to pay for the templates to maybe could you email me the measurements for the pieces please
I you
Can I make this out of a can of coke
+EthoTheBoss Well I think you could, but that's flexible, so it won't be so durable. You can still try it, just be creative!
ok
