Love the artwork.I have just started making chain mail armor and after watching this i think im going to expand my armor makeing techniques. Thanks alot!
I Love this piece David. I am working on it currently and found folding the edge seam over by using my vise went very well. My seamer tool kept popping off the piece so I tried the vise to clamp and bend and it worked very well. Just in case anyone else is having the seamer issue or doesn't have the tool.
For some of the smker dyes I use push rods from an engine, in the engine they sit on your lifter and the lifter sits on the cam lobes, then the top of the push rod sits under your rockers, the beauty of them is they are balled on either end and a nice shiny smooth finish. The push rod is a tube so it has a hole running from the top ball to the bottom ball and this let's the oil flow through the push rod. I solder the hole up in the ends then file and sand paper to round it to a nice finish. They are reasonably long depending on the engine so I cut mine in half to make them easier to use. Any engine builder or second hand parts dealer well have these just laying around to be thrown out. I had some in my workshop but I'm sure if you asked for some and explained what you were going to use them for you would most like get a handful for free. They will be oily but spray on some degreaser and through the hole in the middle then air gun them with your air compressor and dry them off with a rag, then you have some cheap if not free, small forming tools...... Hope this helps someone..... Please delete if not wanted
I get a lot of requests and questions about the music I have in the background of my videos. The song "Armor of Arius" is now available on my website www.armortemplates.com I wasn't able to make the file a free download but I made it as low as I could at 99 cents for anyone interested.
Really like your work here man, great stuff. Made a Gauntlet myself, with your tips. It was a little crude (well I only had one day to make the parts) but still nice to make these things yourself.
I love your videos so much! They are super helpful to me to really learn the "anatomy" if you will, of how armor should fit together. As a cosplayer it's super helpful!
Merci beaucoup! Mon français ne est pas très bon non plus, mais je sais un peu. Je suis content que vous aimez mon armure, et ne hésitez pas à me parler en français. Je peux comprendre assez bien.
I have to say, this is simply beautiful. Metal is my favorite material to work with, because it doesn´t splinter, break or rip easily, but all I have ever succeeded in, is to create a little dull copper-knife. Maybe if I have the time, I´ll try this out, it looks certainly more doable than the gauntlet of this design^^ (which by the way was impressive). So my best regards and please don´t stop making these beautys. (Also please excuse any mistakes, english is not my native language)
You could also try etching designs in and heat colouring the steel. If you want some inspiration, have a look at the 16th century armours (the Greenwich armours in particular).
Wow everyone's asking for big stuff like full body plates, Lolz guessing your taking it slow that's okay your doing your best right now which is awesome, in the future I think your gonna be an awesome guy who makes epic armor
I do tutorials for people to do this stuff on their own without rare tools and a forge. I can make any armor...I choose to make the armor that other people can have fun replicating.
David Guyton I know I have enjoyed watching the tutorials you have done so far. I would love to see you do something like a breastplate or maybe something for the legs even?
Great work again David. Looks like it's a little uncomfortable though. Mabe some soft leather lining wrap inside and under those brass fitting on each end..or rabbit fur oooo soft . Nice contrast
haha rabbit fur. Yes actually I write that out in the instructions with the template. I intended to glue fleece to the inside of it, but when I had finished, I realized I had none left. All of the rivets are hammered down very flat in the inside, so I can't feel any of them, but some sort of fabric (or fur!) would be far more comfortable than the cold hard metal of the vambrace.
Thanx for answering so quickly. I'v made a few pieces myself, your work is beautiful but I'm more practical I want to be able to use it comfortable for hours !!'
Hey! rely like your videos, i wanna start to make more of the jewelry you put on the brasers :) the bras details, what do you call them and where can i find templates for onely those before i start with the armor templates from your site? :D rely digg your work!:D
Excellent video and I have purchased your patterns for it! My question is where do you get your brass and to what thickness is it? Just wondering hope you can help set me outright. Have a great day!
Brass is hard to find in larger sizes. I usually have to go to eBay. For small pieces you can get it in hobby stores. Thickness depends on what you wanna do with the design. The thinner it is, the more details you can get, but it's not as strong. Thicker means harder to work. Middle ground would be like 22 gauge
Hi loving your channel, but I bought this template and the bottom piece isnt to scale would appreciate some advice on how to fix it as i dont know how to resize the page without making the scale go wrong.
the pieces should all print to scale. If you are having one of the pages printing an image at the wrong size, it's likely an issue with your printer. Check your printer settings to see if any of them will fix the issue. The lower piece may not line up perfectly with the edges of the upper piece, but it should be close enough to where you can do some trimming on the grinder to make them line up perfectly.
The actual pdf document has that page larger than the rest so when I attempted to print it on an a4 printer it either gets scaled down or cut in half depending on my printer setting. I don't know how to adjust the actual page so I'm stuck, thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I just looked and you are correct. I can't believe no one had caught that mistake until now. I am working on a fix, and will send you the file when I get it wrapped up. I'll need your email address, but I wouldn't suggest posting it here publicly). Send me a message on the Armor Templates Facebook page, or let me know what name you purchased it with (on your PayPal or credit card) I can look you up that way and send you the new file
copper is much softer and will not hold its shape as well as brass unless you are using much thicker copper sheet. I would not suggest making hinges with it though.
Make a future Vambrace, that has a spot to connect in a smartphone :D have it plug into the bracer, and extend some functions into the brace? Thanks :D
David Guyton Been there done that with cloth, see my G+ pic? What I am talking about is something like future tactical computer + bracer, maybe with integrated flashlight and bluetooth headset holder / charger..... :D anyway, nice work, I am always easy to see your next piece.
I generally buy my metals from ebay. You can find the brass I use in the video at most hobby stores. For tools I just use what I find in the garage, or sometimes I buy cheap tools at Harbor Freight.
+greenthunder1000 in this case, yes, because there's no articulated parts and you can rivet them all tightly. However, pop rivets are going to be very ugly. If you're going to go to the trouble to make it, I suggest making it look good. Rivets are not hard to make
bannahead75 All of my designs are relatively simple EXCEPT the Iron Man one. I would not suggest that one to a beginner because it's made to be very precise. I think the easiest gauntlet is either the Version 2, or the Demon Hand. The Demon Hand has quite a bit of shaping on the knuckles though, so you might take that into account before picking one. If you want to just get a feel for how to shape metal and test your skills, you can always start with the Dragon Rider Ring. That requires a very small amount of metal too, saving you money.
+Kr4sh89 Hmm, I just checked and it's working on my end. If you are on a phone, try using a computer instead. Let me know if you are still having any issues.
It was just some chisel thing I found in the garage. I used a grinder to dull the edge a little but, and then I used sandpaper to make sure it was smooth with no sharp edges.
Hi David, is there a way to discuss with you an incident in which I lost all of the templates of yours that I lost? (Formatted my CPU without backing up the templates I purchased)
Yup! I can look you up in my records. All I need is your real name and/or email address, but I suggest sending that over as a message on the Armor Templates Facebook page, or though here on TH-cam (although I forget where messages are located on YT these days). I'll resend all the files as soon as I get your info
This process is a more simple way of armoring. I don't do any sort of heat treating because I have no purpose for hardened armor, and many of my viewers are younger, and I wouldn't want them burning down mom and dad's house trying to replicate what I am doing in a video. That being said, nothing is stopping you from hardening your own armor, and my designs will certainly work for hardened armor, as opposed to the more "show piece" or costume armor that you see me making in the videos. I am no expert in heat treatment though, so I have little info for you. There are videos on how to do this online. Check out Eric Dube's channel to get you started
hey david Guyton, you could do the Arm winter soldier, if you send me the power lines if possible ... I thank YOU EVEN, I would like to do but do not know Getting Started, you could make this for me?. A big hug max Feltrin ps am a Brazilian hahahaha
but and molds ?? you could do for me ??, if you give Serto I send him a video for you showing how was probably tere to do with EVA or if mat, u could help me if possible ??, guess its possible until you do is so take some parts of the arm and shorten them to leave the closest of hand joints out, what do you think ??
"I think it's French for surrender" Well, I'm French and offended :'( (Nah I actually laughed) Repoussé is For "push away" (Different from just "Push") It means to push an opposing force away. In the military "Repousser un ennemi" means to drive the ennemy away, (crushing the ennemy so hard that he will fall back) in other words, it's the opposite of Surrender. :D
A little too light of a gauge for me, looking to make functional armour, and if your 22g bracer took a good hit it wouldnt be so pretty anymore. you can cut 18 gauge steel with hand snips, I do it all the time at work, but thats Galvanised, dont know how different stainless is to cut. Very nice brass work though
stainless is much, much harder. 20ga stainless is a nightmare to cut by hand. 18ga stainless is not possible to cut by hand. You have to remember that I do this to show others how to make this stuff. There is nothing prohibiting you from using thicker steel, or any material at all, for that matter.
Thanks for the info wasnt aware Stainless was harder to cut. 18gauge Galvanized steel is the thickest i cut at work doing Cladding, Trying to get into SCA heavy combat and want to make my own armour, 20 gauge for anything in the sca is just too light for the full contact combat
well, less than your soul, but probably more than you'd be willing to pay haha. I don't do commissions because I am too slow to make it lucrative for me, and still affordable for a customer. I haven't done lorica segmentata yet but I have it on my list and will be doing it fairly soon. Until I give it a try I couldn't even begin to quote a price because I don't know how difficult it is yet. But like I said, I don't really do commissions.
Hey thanks for the reply man! I get it, you would have to end up charging a huge amount just to equal maybe min. wage for the hours you put in.. Damn, I wish I could find someway to buy a segmentata without going online and not knowing if I'm getting a cheap Indian, tin reproduction! How hard would it be to make? I'm going to welding school this summer and figure maybe down the road it might be in my skill set. Would you recommend a 16-18 gauge, high carbon steel for the bands and plates? Cheers man, love the videos..
16 or 18, yes. But I don't have anything that will cut 16 (very well, anyway), so I don't use it often. When I do it it will likely be 18 but we shall see. I do have a pretty large sheet of 16 I need to use for something. I will say (no promises here) that when I get around to building it, it's unlikely I will actually keep it. I am kind of running out of room for all the stuff I build, so I will probably sell it or give it away in a contest or something.
Awesome tutorial - I like how you use simple/basic tools resourcefully - without the need for an entire shop full of equipment
Love the artwork.I have just started making chain mail armor and after watching this i think im going to expand my armor makeing techniques. Thanks alot!
"'Repousse' is French for surrender or something" LMAO. Alright, that sold me on this channel. Subscribed.
HA! and a Bob Ross reference!
Haha not many people notice either of those little Easter eggs I threw in there
It helps when you speak French and grew up in the 90s. Either way I'm looking forward to more projects!
I Love this piece David. I am working on it currently and found folding the edge seam over by using my vise went very well. you are a professional no more words to express.
I love how you made every bit of this build! Very impressive!
Why thank you! Glad you liked the video!
Outstanding work. How can people possibly dislike this vid.
Your video's have really helped me get into armour creation. Thank you so much.
Oli Adams You're very welcome!
man i wait for a new one since i bough your template, i love your job and love that you're teaching those great works, thank you to be awesome!!
Awesome. Hope youre doing a full armor like this, and in that old antic design.
Very nice work David ... I think I'm going to do this before I do the gauntlet ... love your work
Love this piece, reminds me of the movie "Troy". Very nice work.

I don't read, but I might buy your books. I like these vids and want to support them more.
Why thank you, sir! THe first book, Mighty Hammer Down is free in ebook format everywhere. Even if you don't read, I hope you'll enjoy it.

breastplate will come later...greaves, probably pretty soon
David Guyton .....winter soilder arm...
haha that's a tough one. I would love to do it though
Looks daaam good . You've got crazy skills
Why thank you! I have this one hanging on the wall.
He said, "same paint you make happy little trees with", lol. :)
the wolf that's very cool! Great way to use the design

Just AMAZING !!! You great !! good job
Great work once again!
man, you're super talented ❤
Next time i would try to put something between the armor and your arm that can absorb shocks :) nice Video!
Amazing work
Another amazing build! Thank you so much :)
"Happy little trees" Sneaky reference, noice.
This vambrace is a beautiful piece of armor. But would you consider making the hand part to go with it? I thing the demon hand may look good with it.
I hate how easy this guy makes it look...and that I live in an apartment with no garage or storage what so ever. I want to be able to make this stuff!
great great job by the way... thanks to share with us
OH HOLY GLOB THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING!! OH MA GOSH!!!
+Castan97 thanks! If you like this one, make sure to check out my gauntlet videos...they are much cooler!
thnks for the information!! :D I'll go check it out~
Outstanding Videos...Great information your sharing...Cheers...Hitting your FB to...
Awesome dude.
Do you plan to make a full armor suit?
maybe at some point. That's a LOT of work though
Well, if you do, count my view and like on every video
Hey! rely like your videos, i wanna start to make more of the jewelry you put on the brasers :) the bras details, what do you call them and where can i find templates for onely those before i start with the armor templates from your site? :D rely digg your work!:D
Love the music
I like your patterns, I’d use a heavier steel though.
wish i knew about this when i was in tech
You do very beautiful work Mr Guyton. Are your books available in store, because I would very much like to read them.
In some stores, but not many. The fist book is available free everywhere in ebook format though. Title is Mighty Hammer Down
I wish I had the tools for this! I really wanna make an ezio vambrace to match my homemade hidden blade D:
This looks sick :o
Excellent video and I have purchased your patterns for it! My question is where do you get your brass and to what thickness is it? Just wondering hope you can help set me outright. Have a great day!
Brass is hard to find in larger sizes. I usually have to go to eBay. For small pieces you can get it in hobby stores. Thickness depends on what you wanna do with the design. The thinner it is, the more details you can get, but it's not as strong. Thicker means harder to work. Middle ground would be like 22 gauge
ever thought about using wax instead of tar? easier to melt and reform, and way less messy.
I don't know if the wax would hold up very well under the hammering...but it's worth trying
Nice work, it looks really good :)
If I buy one of you gauntlet's designs, can I then reverse the template to make one for the other hand/arm ?
+magn5264 all of my designs print out for a left hand. To make the right hand, all you have to do is flip the template pieces over.
Nice! Just found your channel and subbed right away!
What is the name of the song in the background? I really like it.
This one is called Armor of Arius, but the more popular one is Calm Amid the Raging Waters....both available on armortemplates.com for 99 cents
cool! thank you! :)
@@DavidGuyton I couldn't find this song
I actually want to learn how to do THIS
I got a question. Can this brace be worn between the shoulder and the elbow and if so how can I measure the right size?
thank you so much
Could you also use copper instead of brass for the repoussé and the other accents ? And what about copper hinges ?
copper is much softer and will not hold its shape as well as brass unless you are using much thicker copper sheet. I would not suggest making hinges with it though.
Any chance you will be doing a chest piece or shin guards in the future?
the shin guards, yes. A plan for those is in the works now. A chest piece....at some point in the future, but not soon.
Hello brother! What is it you used to scuff the edges?
uff Man are you the best
Make a future Vambrace, that has a spot to connect in a smartphone :D
have it plug into the bracer, and extend some functions into the brace?
Thanks :D
actually I did think about that (after being inspired by Leela from Futurama). I think maybe plastic is a better way to go though.
David Guyton Been there done that with cloth, see my G+ pic?
What I am talking about is something like future tactical computer + bracer, maybe with integrated flashlight and bluetooth headset holder / charger..... :D anyway, nice work, I am always easy to see your next piece.
what is the best place to get my supplies from?
I generally buy my metals from ebay. You can find the brass I use in the video at most hobby stores. For tools I just use what I find in the garage, or sometimes I buy cheap tools at Harbor Freight.
thank you i never thought about buying metal from ebay!
Would you reccommend chasing a vambrace after its curved or before?
Very good question. I am actually not sure. My guess would be before, unless the design was extremely complex. Difficult either way, I think.
hey nice work where did you get all of your metals is there like a website you go to like would like to order some myself
+bezalel israel I generally just buy from Ebay, and sometimes Lowes or Home Depot
А чем он мазал в конце. Обработкой, Маслом?
I think if the zombie apocalypse ever happened you would be the only one to survive since you have all this armor
would pop-rivets be as effective as your rivets for armor similar to this?
+greenthunder1000 in this case, yes, because there's no articulated parts and you can rivet them all tightly. However, pop rivets are going to be very ugly. If you're going to go to the trouble to make it, I suggest making it look good. Rivets are not hard to make
what would you recommend to be the very first starting piece to make? completely new to this
bannahead75 All of my designs are relatively simple EXCEPT the Iron Man one. That requires a very small amount of metal too, saving you money.
awesome, do you start with sheet metal and do rough cuts then go from there?
pretty much, yes. Rough cuts, then I used a grinder and files to finalize shape, then I started shaping.
Trying to check out the armour templates but the site won't let me add them to cart. 🙈
+Kr4sh89 Hmm, I just checked and it's working on my end. If you are on a phone, try using a computer instead. Let me know if you are still having any issues.
Thats a nice piecs. For dimoen gold
what is the name of the music in the background ?
What did you use to make the outline in the the brass before you flipped it.
It was just some chisel thing I found in the garage. I used a grinder to dull the edge a little but, and then I used sandpaper to make sure it was smooth with no sharp edges.
David Guyton Okay, thanks.
Hi David, is there a way to discuss with you an incident in which I lost all of the templates of yours that I lost? (Formatted my CPU without backing up the templates I purchased)

How much did this whole bracers project cost as far as materials go?
Jonathan Knudsen steel was like $20, brass was I dunno, $25ish. Copper rod I already had but that was a few bucks
Awesome, thanks.
any thoughts on tempering the armor that you make?
This process is a more simple way of armoring. I don't do any sort of heat treating because I have no purpose for hardened armor, and many of my viewers are younger, and I wouldn't want them burning down mom and dad's house trying to replicate what I am doing in a video. hey david Guyton, you could do the Arm winter soldier, if you send me the power lines if possible ... I thank YOU EVEN, I would like to do but do not know Getting Started, you could make this for me?. A big hug max Feltrin ps am a Brazilian hahahaha
I'm afraid the Winter Soldier arm is too complex for me. If I were able to build it, I don't think I would be able to move in it.

Aww this would be perfect with a hidden blade
does the sheet need to be annealed before and during shaping?
No. All of the work I do is cold work. You do not need any heat for anything you see me build in my videos.
David Guyton thanks for replying. that's cool there's no heating needed. Have you built any scale mail?
No I have only done plate stuff. Doing scales or chain mail seems really tedious to me. I don't think I would enjoy it
Could these take actual swords and or katanas
+Michael Brown in 16ga steel, with heat treatment, yes. These? no. Best to avoid swordfights in general, I'd say.
A little too light of a gauge for me, looking to make functional armour, and if your 22g bracer took a good hit it wouldnt be so pretty anymore. you can cut 18 gauge steel with hand snips, I do it all the time at work, but thats Galvanised, dont know how different stainless is to cut. at some point yes
Half inch rebar is my final decision to make armor
how did you get the design out at 7:06?
I had it screwed down with screws to keep it from moving. To remove it, I just took the screws out.
Prpğğğğ
what type of metal is this?
this is stainless steel, but I now work only with regular steel, not stainless. The accents are made of brass
ohhhh ok thank you so much my friend, also your vids are awesome, keep up the amazing work
Dude... I would sell you my soul for you to make me an authentic Roman, Licora Segmentata.. What would you charge for that in all seriousness?
well, less than your soul, but probably more than you'd be willing to pay haha.
I've heard armorers say it's one of the easier armor builds.. Makes sense being some of the earliest plate armor. But damn, the coolest looking!
I'm sure it's not gonna be that easy when I try it...
I think you'll be surprised. None of this stuff is all that hard....just takes a little patience and time
While I appreciate the artistry and work you have put in, I do think it looks quite rough to be honest.
The music is scary. 👀💧
