Great video! Love the flat wheel, reminds me of riding the Main Line in the vestibules of the old gray coaches, pulled by a diesel locomotive. Ronkonkoma station was a little brick building surrounded by nice shade trees. I summered in Greenport, and have rode the LIRR since the late 1950's. Thanks for the great filming!
Man they have come a long way with the project! I still wish I lived on the island. Buttresses have been put in at Wyandanch, and I can see that they have to get rid of the ballast in between the rails of the new track because you wouldn't be able to run on it, plus they need to polish it.
Everything I grew up with is changing. Although I lived along the Babylon Branch, but my maternal grandparents are interred at St. Charles so I get to see my trains. Now it looks like we have a roundabout at Wellwood Avenue next to Pinelawn because they have to make room. Actually I'm a part of the LIRR forum on railroad.net where I talk about current construction projects, and the good old days. I've given a ton of photos, and given a ton of research.
I've already covered the second track from Brentwood to Wyandanch in a recent video. I will do another run starting from Wyandanch to show the remaining 5 miles. Re-recording the whole line isn't necessary.
They will need to connect and link the interlocking East of Central Islip, electrify it and test it. It'll be about 2 years before the track between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma will be put into service.
And what about the 2nd track west from Central Islip to Brentwood? It looks like they've made the right-of -way, but there was no sign of track laid. When is that supposed to come o line?

Great straightaways for making up time. The saying "it's a long road that doesn't have a curve in it" appears to have some truth in it.
There is an annual fair at the parking lot at 29:40 to the right. It is a great place for railfanning, I might want to try it soon.

Yup. And this isn't the only one. I did it coming BACK.

gonna miss these m3's when they get retired later this year and next year. The m9's look cool though so
Yeah.
Ah yes, nothing like a "square wheel" to give you confidence in LIRR's maintenance.
Well, they are falling apart and old
Cool video.Which trains do u like most M3,M7,or C3.
I think I might've remembered going on the m3 train when I was 12 or 13 perhaps.
Pretty young. First time, I was it was back in 6th grade
Supposedly, the 2nd track construction will be completed next month. Will you be able to get an RFW video of the entire new line?

As of today (8/13/17) how close is the LIRR to being able to use the 2nd track?
Probably not until next year or so.
Is there a train station near USMMA?
What's the latest on the second track?
