    I have a 05 scion tc and it starts to rattle. I don't know if it's the timing tensioner or VVT-I sprockets or the chain itself. Still rattle when the engine is cold or hot. I'm guessing it's the timing tensioner but I maybe wrong here. Any help will be appreciated

    I had the rattle on start up...figured it was the vvt but decided to change out the tensioner as it was leaking anyways...much better now!..I'm not going to mess with the vvt.

    GOOD Peter! One question for you is about this type of tensioner: is there any chance of the teeth skipping pushed by this tensioner?

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never seen skipping

      @@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor Ok, Peter, If it is wrong, the former repairer must have installed it wrong.

      @@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor then does it mean the tensioner won’t need replacement, even when the oil pressure can’t push it in any more? Thanks

    I'm having an issue reinstalling my tensioner. The tensioner is compressed and locked and it won't fully go back into the bore by 1/4” and is stopping against the timing chain guide slipper.
    Is the solution as you demonstrated to turn the cam with a 24mm wrench?

    • @Steve-qs9eq

      Also, can I turn it backwards at the crank to get the tensioner in or only at the top with the valve cover removed?

    Here all is wrong . The tensioner is old , better to replace with new and new metal gasket. Never use silicone on that part of the engine, and especially why he did
