Loved this format of video. I’ve moved a lot and I have many friends but they are all individual too and don’t know each other either. It was so funny, for my 40th birthday I had a small lunch for 12 (it was Covid) and everyone that could come had all heard about each other but nobody knew each other . I feel it takes a lot more work to maintain lots of individual friendships- but I left home so young, friends from school etc faded early.
That is so great that you could bring all your friends together (esp during covid when everyone needed it)! You seem like you would be a great "connector" amongst friends which is so great. I have a friend who is a great "connector" of friends and I don't know how she does it, but it's a quality I need to look into, lol. I lived in Arizona for decades, since my teen years. I had many friends. I had horses so I had my horse friends. I had very good work friends and miscellaneous friends. I had a very active social life. Then we moved to another state. I was 37. Reality hit that making friends at that age was very difficult. I missed my daily interactions with friends. Over time I did make 2 good friends through work but it took a while.
We eventually returned to Arizona where we’ve been ever since. At my current age I have very few in person interactions with old friends. I’m more content being home in my bubble. I do really enjoy the times that we do get together for lunch or a dinner.
I have no one in my life that appreciates or has interest in handbags so TH-cam is where I can connect even though it’s only as a viewer. I’ve had fun watching and learning from others. I enjoy my collection. I’ve always loved bags since I was a child but only began buying very nice bags around 2007 when my kids were on their own and I had the time and disposable income.
I’m surprised that that Niki video created such reaction from so many. I watched the video out of curiosity. I was not familiar with her. I didn’t really have an opinion either way.
I just want to say that I really enjoy your videos. You’re so sweet and humble.
I agree with everything you stated. I come to TH-cam to not only learn about bags but to interact with other people who share the same passion and I do.
Hi Janet! Arizona is so gorgeous, I visited Sedona in 2019 & had the best time...it was also the first time I saw cactus in the wild! 🌵haha :) The friend journey can be such a weird thing, but I am so grateful that there are so many other ways ppl can connect, even from afar! Cute little sweatshirt that you’re wearing! I had no idea that you lived in Canada, and for whatever reason, I envisioned you on the east coast. As far as friends go, I met one of my best, beloved friends through IG. We have so much in common - our love for animals, shopping and handbags, but the best part, our view on life is so similar. I feel like she’s a long lost sister, but sadly, she lives across the country and we haven’t met in person yet. As someone who has lived in a number of countries, it’s very hard to keep every friend you make a friend. People and their lives move on so quickly, sometimes you get left behind and other times you/they realise they don’t need or want that friendship anymore and I think the older we get we realise that we don’t have too have friends just for the sake of it.
'Tis life! I suppose that is indeed how we cycle through friendships and how it usually goes. I often do feel fulfilled bc at the end of the day, my husband (who I often refer to as my boyfriend, lol) is actually my best friend in every sense. So I do feel blessed regardless. LOVE your Kiki and Lala twin stars sweater! You brought up a lot of good points - I agree re your point about "eras" or seasons in life~ That is exactly how think about life and every stage we are in... It is always shifting - and especially as we are working or raising families or moving away from loved ones - many priorities shift - eg. family illness etc SO MANY FACTORS!! Shopping wise, when i'm in a a higher mood more manic phase or somehow had a windfall/good investments etc I will shop more and when i'm in a lower mood or have different priorities then i will shop less? I personally don't think shopping is a dirty word for me but omggg Sharon I agree with you - recently it's being painted as if it is MORAL??? Like how did this happen? Too many labels and extremes... assumptions... Particularly when most of us are just armchair psychs HAHA... Re Friendship I feel the same way - part of the reason is my age/when I started a family (during covid yasssss), but also hobbies etc... Certainly in the fashion sphere i love youtube for you guys! IRL I ONLY have a handful of friends who are as into them as me... It makes me feel guilty because other friends don't understand my kove of jewelry or bags... Even if it is my money etc!! It's just crazy... Peer pressure but not even?? Want to talk more to this - but perhaps should make a video it's taking me forever to type since i honestly type like a turtle//great grandma level.. you are definitely NOT alone when it comes to making adult friends! I moved from the West Coast to the East Coast about 5 years ago, and was making some slight progress with establishing a friend group-- then the pandemic happened and it all stopped. It really is so difficult to start over again, and something I never took into consideration before moving. But even back on the West Coast, I still never had any friends that were into clothes or fashion 🤣so YT has always been my safe haven. Regarding people with "shopping addictions" -- I have seen some people here on YT who do seem to have unhealthy spending problems. For example, doing constant expensive unboxings when I know they work a standard 9-5 like myself. However, its frankly none of my business (maybe they have some other stream of income I am unaware of) and I would never even dream of leaving some judgemental comment on their video. At the end of the day, their videos are entertainment for me, not financial advice. For me personally, I would not spend over $500 on a bag. Thats just the limit I have set for myself at this point in my life, and it is based purely on my gut feeling.
I really love hearing your shared experience with friends! And yes covid really did mess with a lot of things, unfortunately. Making friends as an adult is a completely different ballgame & takes so much effort and visibility. And honestly, you could not have said it any better!....yt videos are def entertainment for me too, not for me to give unsolicited financial advice to a stranger. And having a gut feeling is probably one of the best barometers of self reflection! As for friends, I never really had a major circle. But when COVID happened, I got desperately lonely. My husband is a cop always working, night shift too. So we were on opposite schedules. And I had my preteen and toddler. They weren't great at conversating with me lol. So I seeked out friends in the planner community and a facebook mommy group for my area. Soooo glad to have found 2 circle of friends. Now if they can love designer goods too lol
And for designer spending limits.... I only have 4 bags. I usually limit myself to buying a bag or a few slgs every year or two depending on major expenses. There's still a few more bags on my sensible wish list and with price rises I know I can't limit the dollar amount. And the hubs just has to be ok with that lol

That is always a great avenue to meet ppl in your area...I did that when I first moved here but it didn't really materialize into much w strong friendships. And you bring up an excellent point about the not being able to limit the dollar amount due to price rises...this is what kills me (& us all!)...Some of these prices really turn me off from certain brands as a result (ugh).

Re Niki reactions, I think some people were offended because of how she seemed to portray shopping and collecting of handbags as something evil (listen to the way she spoke and the accompanying music), something that takes one away from more important things in life such as spending time with one’s family, which would imply that those who do not follow her footsteps are not paying attention to those important things in life. Re the hypocrisy, I suppose, if she really wanted to simplify her life, why is she only getting rid of her handbags? Why not her jewelry and designer clothes and shoes? Might as well get rid of the cars, too, and move to a tiny house 🤷🏼♀️🤪. Nuff said about that lady.

I, too, didn’t have friends who are crazy handbag lovers like me, which was the very reason I started my channel, to connect with like-minded people. I didn’t even tell my real-life friends about my channel to get their support because of the fear of judgment, until some of them asked what I had been up to since I retired. I have been fortunate to have made new friends through my social media platforms. Now some of us even hang out together 🥰. I don't think i have a dollar limit on a handbag. But i do believe in dollar limit on spending when the funds have not accumulated enough to achieve the price of the bag. Like i am totally open to buying a kelly from a reseller but not more then 50% premium. At the same time, i do have other priorities at the moment and am willing to make smaller purchases. Loaning a quote from you...depends on the season❤

I’m a handbag lover at heart but I also love fashion. I’m a late bloomer when it comes to luxury handbags. I have vintage LV and the only bag I got from the boutique is my Pouchette Metis. I’m plus size so fashion is a little different. I incorporate my bags with my fits I’m not fancy but I do dress up from time to time Now as far as my friends I have all kinds of friends who will listen to me go on and on about bags but not many. I have friends who take on certain roles in my life. They know that bags are my passion. I can’t goon and on😂😂😂 Great Video 😊 I got free lunch too growing up and was happy because I didn’t have to pay cause as a kid I hated asking my parents for money. As soon as I was of age to get a job I did. I’ve always worked for what I wanted. I didn’t watch Nikki’s video.

Friendships are hard. I’m the only married one of the group. So everyone i had a friendships with i don’t see anymore or do things with. And it’s not me cause i have the time and want to do. I feel like i was pushed away.

But it should never feel too hard, so if you feel like you have done your part to upkeep a friendship, you can only do so much. I have known about Niki for years, I even think at one point I did subscribe to her. I don’t know if it’s because I am long in the tooth, or I might have even fallen asleep through the vid so missed out on the way she said something (joke) 😂 but I didn’t take offence to anything she said. To be honest, I wouldn’t have given her vid another thought after watching it, it’s only seeing other TH-camrs make vids on her, that has even brought it to my attention again. I am really not bothered in the slightest.
I don’t feel guilty about my purchases, but it pains me to know that these companies are taking the mickey with the amount they charge. Making things for a few hundred and selling them for thousands that hurts 😫
Totally agree with you here! I didn't particularly find her video all that interesting, but more the aftershock was more fascinating to me, lol. And as far as prices go, I'm with you too....I feel fortunate that I started buying bags many years ago before these radical price increases! xo

I have been looking at the LG stylers and other brands, I like the idea of them, but not sure if I would get much use out of them, As I am pretty much a one wear throw it in the wash person 🙊
How do you use it/how often and can you use it to freshen up a quilt/pillows etc

I haven't used it for shoes but I would imagine it could be used to freshen up a canvas pair. I don't use it every week like I do the regular washer/dryer, however I tend to use it in spurts when I want to refresh my delicates...it is especially useful if you wear a lot of cashmere/wools, blazers, dresses, etc. It's also been handy for creasing trousers & de-wrinkling shirts after they've been washed. It has been my best one of my faves esp bc I don't tend to wash after every wear. You can def refresh pillows & throws too! I hope that helps! ❤️
