I have made so many handbag mistakes over the years! I love your point to understand YOUR neutral color. It took me a long time to figure out that my neutral color is pink! And I would buy other colors because I thought I should but those bags I never loved! And I sold those bags for a loss…. It’s a costly process!
It is definitely a costly (& exhausting) process! I bought my camel Chanel mini for that exact reason -I thought I “should” bc it’s “neutral”, but now I know better and I like my bags to pop, not blend! My ultimate way is to ask my husband, since he’s totally not someone who likes to spend $$$ on luxury things, so most certainly he’ll have something (negative) to say about the bag 😅
If I can confidently respond his objections, it means I truly love the bag. But if I hesitate, then it’s a no.
If he likes the bag from the beginning, it’s a plus point!

On the neutral color, I have bags in so many colors but none of them is beige, it just doesn’t suit my complexion and my style. I would find it very hard to style.

For me, if any reviews tell me a bag is heavy/ difficult to get in and out off/ has a skinny chain strap/ a non-detachable strap, it’s off my list.

I’m checking my sanity right now!! I have the Dior saddle bag in the newspaper print and I’m wondering….. “Yes, I love it, but it is so not practical and maybe it should go back.” And then I fight the mental battle of….. “But it is a highly coveted bag…. “
I know…. Logic should prevail and it should go back. And that’s also where the fantasy vs reality life comes into play as well. It’s exhausting….

I always enjoy your perspective on handbags. You are very levelheaded and thoughtful about your decisions. You have built a gorgeous, useful and timeless collection.
My thought process is similar to yours on the points you have mentioned.
I have to remind myself with every purchase to buy for the life I live. My lifestyle is extremely casual and special occasions are few and far between. Even travel is casual, Hawaii being our go to. I don’t need any more dress up bags.
I have really made a conscious effort to not be influenced. I have learned what I like and what works best for me.
My biggest hurdle is spending thousands on a bag. I really have to run through all the pros and cons and the guilt associated with spending so much on a bag. Like you said, can the money be better spent? Well of course it can. I always think about emergencies or unforeseen large expenses.
We’re empty nesters in a very good, secure place financially yet I do worry about the future. Anyway, I won’t go on but I’ve been going through my sanity check list for over a week now and it’s bothering me, lol! Your video was very timely for me.
Janet, your kind words mean so much! I’ve always been someone who has prioritized how I should spend my money, esp bc I hate the feeling of regret. But I know exactly what you mean….i feel like even when we feel we are in a good position financially, the reality is anything can happen to our health long term. I’ve seen so much suffering w/ cancer/dementia in the last couple of years in my life and I’m very aware this world is not set up for sick or old people. It costs a lot of money to have proper support for elders and my views are always looking into my future health and being ready for worst case scenarios (hopefully not). I’m sorry, I don’t mean to sound like a downer but I don’t want to get caught up with things that ultimately won’t serve me right now and will only take away from my future self. ❤️🌟🥰I always appreciate hearing your perspectives too and grateful for you watching!
