@largec my reasoning is modern aerodynamics make vehicles all look very similar. In the past each model looked unique

Yeah, but there's also the Lexus LF-LC, which spawned the LC500... It pretty much remained unchanged from the concept.

Well this won't see the light of day...probably like the Mazda rx concept-beautiful car....doubt we'll ever see either one. Really car companies should pull their collective heads out of their asses and design a car that CAN be produced as is, not some museum queen. Plus who in the hell chose those color combos? Great outside...cool carbon-then corvette blue interior bits? Wth, that looks so tacky
@@KiraOniiChan FT-1 was gorgeous, but on this one, the way the rear wheel arch has an angled peak well forward of the top of the arch is absolutely HIDEOUS. The rest of the car is GORGEOUS.
Love the design. I'm sure it will perform great. Wish it had a non-ev option. Guess I'll have to wait for Rich Rebuilds to figure out a way to LS swap it

Really do like the design! And having owned the 1st and 2nd gen MR2, I welcome their possible return! Do not I want a fully electric sports car, takes some of the passion away. Would prefer ICE or hybrid; and right now it is beginning to appear the trade off for all electric isn’t worth it. And I know I don’t want a a AWD as they feel TOO planted, and I enjoy being able to toss it around like you used to be able to do with a RWD. AWD takes some of the driving fun away as some of that “looseness” is gone.
the modern awd cars always come with an setting to disable power to front wheels
@@Toyotamark2blitjzx110 I am sure of that! However if I were to purchase such a car I would still be left with the added weight and complexity of the system; which can add to the maintenance. I do like and agree of marketing the car at the level of the Cayman/Boxster; just make sure it has equal if not greater performance.
Needs to have manual option too. Not a fan of the interior being pure screen based
But not to loose like those vipers.

The prototypes always look like this on the wheels, but the real model looks much worse because they have to leave more room for suspension travel, and they also sit further into the body.
Only track cars can look like this fit with very stiff suspension.

The color is awesome and the concept looks sick. Production models should definitely look exactly the same but obviously has to change. Shame this is electric hybrid would be a better fit

Now I have hope that the new Mr2 is going to look insane. The Mr-s looks wasnt the best but did takes some time to get use to and is it quite an amazing platform for racing. I hope they can bring that to the new model!

Clean uncluttered design, high quality materials, nice seats no drama. That car is 176-250k U.S. what would this thing cost?
Supposed to come after 2026 per toyoduh execs asked directly at the show, my guess is caterham v pricing 75-100k. Solid state cells, 300+miles of range, insane charging speed compared to today(average by then. Prob 450+hp rwd dual motors with torque vectoring.
I really like the way this car looks but I was hoping it would be a mid engine so we could still get a manual transmission, or at the very least be mid engine with a hybrid motor.
Manuals are dying. There's no way around that fact. Soon the only manuals you will be able to buy will be used cars. EVs will take over the world even if it's taking a long time to get there.
My only problem with this car is that we can't buy it today.
@@AMG-on-2nd Manuals are not really dying, just being phased out due to electrification. There more options now to buy manual than we’ve had for a while now. While I do understand electrification is our inevitable future, I stand by my original comment. I enjoy driving manual and hope it stays an option for just a bit longer.

I drive an R8 as my daily driver here in SoCal and I enjoy every minute of it without a manual, most of all just driving for the joy of driving with nowhere to go. But hey I understand there are many people like you who still prefer manuals.

Give me a lightweight car with a manal tranny and sweet high revving engine on a curvy country road anyday over a faster in a straght line electric car. I was hoping the MR2 replacement might be an ICE, but alas no. Looks like I am keeping my Elise for the rest of my life as it hits all my driving senses perfectly.
@@AMG-on-2ndDont be so sure. Toyota has long held the belief that full EV is not the future, and it looks like they might have been right. EV sales a notably down, and some manufacturers are starting to pull back on full EV commitment

Word in Japan is that a new MR2 will sport the 1.6L 3-banger from three GRY and GRC.
Keep us posted on this please R. Some guy came out with photos of 2 more concept designs and the Titanium one is killer. I hope it looks like that I’ll save my money don’t care, will buy one. It looks awesome. Keep it up R, you the man!
I'll give a thumbs-up 👍to the Recaro seats, especially with the blue accents. Overall, this is a very exciting look at the newest generation of the MR2. I'm excited to eventually see the "on throttle" experience with this cool car.

I really like the smaller screens! It reminds me of a McLaren. Once screens loose their novelty, I hope automakers move to more reasonably-sized, HD screens. Also, that roof is just begging for t-tops lol. Thanks for covering this car.

I think it looks phenomenal. I'm into the GR86 but this is that concept car look I like, but not overkill. With such a small engine, that's something to consider. The lighter weight will be a factor. I can't see making something like this and it's slow. Love this representation though, the lighting, color and glass top all really cool. Can't wait to see more!

not even the mr2 was a 6 cyl. What makes you think that this would have one? if anything it would be a 4cyl hybrid or turbo.

Thats cool that they are bringing back the MR2. This will be interesting to see what Toyota is doing. It was already awesome they brought back the Supra. All these classic import cars are coming back.

Incredible pain job. So interesting how it changes depending on the angle. The question is will this car be priced below 75k? The original MR2 was a very inexpensive sports car (and not that good frankly). The shape from the rear is fantastic. The interior mesh would collect dust so is DOA. I wonder how radical the final product will be. Probably a lot less exciting. Sure wish companies would stop teasing us with products they don't intend to make.
This is a pretty common misconception, the original 85-95 MR2s were quite pricey. Adjusted for inflation, the SW20 (90-95 US MY) would be about the same price as a new Corvette Stingray, around $60,000. The AW11 was about $45,000, also adjusted for inflation, so better but certainly still not what I would call inexpensive.
Though, the supra was more expensive in both model generations, so if we could get that price model back, everyone would be grateful. A sub 50k MR2 would blow everything else out of the water.
def will be over 50k forsure especially if its all electric with new tech from toyota. The increase in making a car and just inflation in general will def make this car cost the same or more than the supra. Just look at the gr corolla, its a 40k car marked up to 50-60k. And with this car looking really good and the best tech in toyota, itll cost a pretty penny. Just look at the new typeR and integra typeS, they cost around 22-28k back then and now theyre over 45k. Every new cool sports car will cost alot, especially the all electric vehicles
A Japanese magazine with insider sources that turned out to be pretty reliable said this thing would be powered by a 1.0 3 cyl with 120 hp. But would be super cheap, like Frs cheap.
Car dealer be like: The best I can do is 100k.
The original MR2 was a brilliant car. Owned one for 4 years in the 1980's and it was wonderful. The only car i've owned since that surpasses it is my current S2 Elise.
This car is pretty rad. I hope that they give us a gas powered version. Would be cool to have this in a garage next to the GR Corolla.

Fantastic design - i really like it but, as an MR2 fan and previous owner (all 3 iterations), this car is no runabout and its price bracket would be way above that of the traditional MR2 niche. Maybe a GR2?
Love the colours both outside & inside... how would you CLEAN the deeper parts of that sort of honeycomb-mesh on the inside?

The running lights wrapping around the bottom for underglow is peak design.
SMH, I don't trust toyota. The FT-1 concept from 2014 was stunning compared to the watered down designed that is the current supra. This mr2 concept is just as stunning but unfortunately the final product won't look anything like this.
