The prototypes always look like this on the wheels, but the real model looks much worse because they have to leave more room for suspension travel, and they also sit further into the body. Only track cars can look like this fit with very stiff suspension.
Really do like the design! And having owned the 1st and 2nd gen MR2, I welcome their possible return! Do not want a fully electric sports car, takes the passion away. Would prefer ICE or hybrid; and right now it is beginning to appear the trade off for all electric isn’t worth it. And I know I don’t want an AWD as they feel TOO planted, and I enjoy being able to toss it around like you used to be able to do with a RWD. AWD takes some of the driving fun away as some of that “looseness” is gone.

That car is 176-250k U.S. what would this thing cost? Supposed to come after 2026 per toyoduh execs asked directly at the show, my guess is caterham v pricing 75-100k. Solid state cells, 300+miles of range, insane charging speed compared to today(average by then. Prob 450+hp rwd dual motors with torque vectoring.
Now I have hope that the new Mr2 is going to look insane. The Mr-s looks wasnt the best but did takes some time to get use to and is it quite an amazing platform for racing. I hope they can bring that to the new model!

Manuals are dying. There's no way around that fact. Soon the only manuals you will be able to buy will be used cars. EVs will take over the world even if it's taking a long time to get there. My only problem with this car is that we can't buy it today.

I really like the smaller screens! It reminds me of a McLaren. Once screens loose their novelty, I hope automakers move to more reasonably-sized, HD screens. Also, that roof is just begging for t-tops lol. Thanks for covering this car.

I'll give a thumbs-up 👍to the Recaro seats, especially with the blue accents. Overall, this is a very exciting look at the newest generation of the MR2. I'm excited to eventually see the "on throttle" experience with this cool car.
I think it looks phenomenal. I'm into the GR86 but this is that concept car look I like, but not overkill. With such a small engine, that's something to consider. The lighter weight will be a factor. I can't see making something like this and it's slow. Love this representation though, the lighting, color and glass top all really cool. Can't wait to see more!

Thats cool that they are bringing back the MR2. This will be interesting to see what Toyota is doing. It was already awesome they brought back the Supra. All these classic import cars are coming back.
As an owner of a MK1 MR2 Supercharger for the past 20+ years, who loves sharp angles vs overly soft curves, this is a very cool proposition styling wise. Definitely has more in common with the dramatic MK1 than the Mk2 or 3.
Incredible pain job. So interesting how it changes depending on the angle. The question is will this car be priced below 75k? The original MR2 was a very inexpensive sports car (and not that good frankly). The shape from the rear is fantastic. The interior mesh would collect dust so is DOA. I wonder how radical the final product will be. Probably a lot less exciting. Sure wish companies would stop teasing us with products they don't intend to make.
This is a pretty common misconception, the original 85-95 MR2s were quite pricey. Adjusted for inflation, the SW20 (90-95 US MY) would be about the same price as a new Corvette Stingray, around $60,000. The AW11 was about $45,000, also adjusted for inflation, so better but certainly still not what I would call inexpensive. Though, the supra was more expensive in both model generations, so if we could get that price model back, everyone would be grateful. A sub 50k MR2 would blow everything else out of the water.

The increase in making a car and just inflation in general will def make this car cost the same or more than the supra. Just look at the gr corolla, its a 40k car marked up to 50-60k. And with this car looking really good and the best tech in toyota, itll cost a pretty penny. Just look at the new typeR and integra typeS, they cost around 22-28k back then and now theyre over 45k. Every new cool sports car will cost alot, especially the all electric vehicles
A Japanese magazine with insider sources that turned out to be pretty reliable said this thing would be powered by a 1.0 3 cyl with 120 hp. But would be super cheap, like Frs cheap.
The original MR2 was a brilliant car. Owned one for 4 years in the 1980's and it was wonderful. The only car i've owned since that surpasses it is my current S2 Elise.
It's been a LOOOOOOOOONG time since I've looked at any Toyota and thought, "...DAMN! That looks GOOD!" I hope they make it and don't soften of dull it out, a la Z4pra...
SMH, I don't trust toyota. The FT-1 concept from 2014 was stunning compared to the watered down designed that is the current supra. This mr2 concept is just as stunning but unfortunately the final product won't look anything like this.
Fantastic design - i really like it but, as an MR2 fan and previous owner (all 3 iterations), this car is no runabout and its price bracket would be way above that of the traditional MR2 niche. Maybe a GR2?
