I almost shed a tear with this one, what a beautiful brand new Prelude. The Prelude was one of my personal favorite Hondas growing up in the early-mid 00's, especially the 88-01 models. Honda has really brought the Prelude back to life, they've done it again! First, the TLX Type-S, the new Integra, then the '23 Accord, the CR-V, and now this! Home runs!
I can't wait till this is out for sale. I previously owned a 1988 Prelude, and I still own a 1997 SH. I have owned it for about 19 years, and I refuse to get rid of it. Great reliable cars.
Great camera work showing pretty good details in the body work that are not easily noticed in indoor low light videos. I especially liked how the paint pops and rear defuser shots revealing all the beautiful angles! 😊
no info yet about that unfortunately, but the engineer also said that you can imagine which wheels are driven by looking at the shape of the car so maybe it will be FWD based@@calcal2030
And people think the pricing situation on the Type R / Type S twins is ridiculous ... this is going to make that seem tame by comparison. This will easily be in the $45K range (probably over $50K with all the bells and whistles) and that's BEFORE dealers start ripping people off with markups. 🤣
Mark my words. In 10 years there will be a documentary on all this inflation and it won’t be because of COVID….it will be social media. As soon as a few big business rose prices on products becaize of shortages, every single company, Bob and Jan’s salon down the street, companies that were service oriented and didn’t even sell products rose prices….it was knee jerk reactions and our copy cat society from social media that has artificially created inflation….
Just need to wait it out. The TLX Type S was initially selling with a $1k to $5k mark-up. But fast forward a year and it's pretty easy to get for under MSRP. It's hard to justify paying close to $60k for the Integra Type S when you can get a more luxurious TLX Type S for under $55k. Plus the V6 turbo and SH-AWD as opposed to a 4-cylinder FWD.
@@TheBreakfastLoverI’d take the four cylinder FWD any day over that heavy crap boxed AWD. Yes you’re getting it under MSRP, but it’s because you’ll make up for it in maintenance costs when you’re taking back to Honda every month just to hear something isn’t covered under warranty lol ask me how I know.
I used to own a 92 Prelude SI. I love that car with all my heart. The handling and stability are probably my favorite thing about the car. To see Honda revive the Prelude bring me so much joy.
I'm about to buy an Accord this week, but I'd pick up the Prelude in a second if it were out in Hybrid format now. Maybe as a 2026 trade-in. I suspect the 2.0T engine from the previous gen of Accord would pair well with a hybrid motor to get just north of 300 HP while keeping 35+ MPG without breaking the bank.
Absolutely love the look. Not sure about a hybrid powertrain for a sport coupe but I'll keep an open mind. If there's no manual option, ill be very disappointed.
If it’s anything like the CRZ I’ll be happy. I had one. Put 170k on it before a deer jumped in front of me. 2020 civic now. Gonna def get a prelude as my second when it comes out.

My friend owned a prelude in high school. We took a trip from Fayetteville nc to Greensboro nc. Stayed in Greensboro for 2 days. Drove home. Started with a full tank of gas. I always thought, out of the civics, integra, and accords, the prelude had a true sport look. Wish I never sold it, I miss it dearly. So happy they’re bringing it back!

I remember wanting a Predule as a teenager many years ago but the car insurance was too high so I had to get a 4 door integra. I can't wait to see these on the streets!!
Pop up headlamps would have been mind shattering. I know there are safety considerations but what about shallow smooth pop ups that would be cool. I had a red 87 Prelude Si…gosh a thing of beauty..
One of the coolest cars that I always wanted when I was kid, I honestly think about preludes often still. I’d love to have one now that I’m an old man😂
My first car was a 1988 Prelude and I've had a few EV's over the years. I never dreamed I'd other another Prelude but this looks like a really fun car. This will be very tempting!
Honda and Acura need at least one coupe hybrid with an optional manual or dual clutch. Awd and all wheel steer options. One level below type s and r in base trim one level higher in top trim.
I like this because the Prelude was a car that introduced a lot of innovation. I believe it was the first car with rear wheel steering. They called is SH for super handling, which Acura took to describe their advanced AWD system. Acura renamed the rear wheel steering “PAWS” for Precision All Wheel Steering and applied it to the new RLX and trickled down to the TLX. It’s subtle but brilliant. I owned a TLX and it drove smoothly when steering in parking lots and while changing lanes at speed.
A small, hopefully light, EV sports coupé made by Honda? This is Prelude represents ALL of my hopes to have fun cars in the electric era 🥰🥰 Thanks for this walk-around Joe and Lori! 🙌🏻💕
Loved my 1990 Honda Prelude 2.0. Literally my first car where the torque kicked in and shot you into higher gear. Loved the fog lights and how much better vision I had at night in the sticks of Maine. Probably going to purchase this vehicle when it comes out.
I really love the look. It looks very fun to drive. I can't stop seeing the paths that enthusiasts might go with ownership. I would love to see more videos when the time comes
@redcatxb125 my first thought about this being a hybrid is no manual option, instantly killed my enthusiasm about it. It's a shame because I actually like the design of it.
@@micahatcher3837 it would be more desireable to the enthusiasts if it were possible for a manual option, the CR-Z was a hybrid manual 6spd, so its possible, but unlikely

Well honestly I hope they go with a gas / hybrid option. Honda does so well in fuel economy I don't see the need for them to go battery, it's just my opinion. I really love the style, it's giving me 4th gen prelude vibes, I would love to see a 4th gen style dash all led oled and let's put some power in the car. Preludes were considered the "big block" of the hondas early on. I'd like to see something 2.5 liter turbo or a 3.0 turbo. Keep it modest 360 hp 300 trq or so also awd.
I'm thinking they might put the hybrid that's in the current gen accord hybrid. Which isn't anything special, I do really hope they can throw something with a little more oomph in it. Like the 2.0t in the RDX ASPEC, it's like 275hp or something. But they confirmed it's a hybrid, I'm not too familiar with hybrids so if there's a way to get power out of them. Honda I can trust to get it
I have always had a soft spot for the Honda Prelude, from the early generation with the pop up headlights, it was such a cool car, and I think that the Honda Prelude was the first car to offer all-wheel steering, especially if you got the Honda Prelude Si, this one car is very cool, and I can't wait to see what the production version looks like
Wow! This is a sleek, stunning car! I liked the old generations and I think they did a fantastic job with this new one! Looking forward to see the drive!
I like the way it looks, but it looks too much like a civic and not enough like a prelude. They needed more design cues from the older preludes in order for it to have its own identity. Otherwise it just looks like a 2 door civic.
My first car was a 2000 prelude. It’s still the best car i ever had and i miss it. If i had the money I’d buy another one and fix it up. Glad they brought this back
I currently have a 5th Gen SH prelude, if they come out with something with their newer SH system and some decent power, I'm throwing my wallet at the salesman and going home with a modern day Prelude.
me too...I've owned 2 of the 4th generation Prelude VTECs and have pined for a Prelude to come back ever since your gen. I really hope it comes back soon.
Needs a manual and pop up lights like prior preludes and a sunroof option. This will be based on the civic type r but in hybrid form and coupe form. Imho This dhould be the integra coupe as well . Easy to do double the sales with a front and rear piece styling change. Not liking the front lights seems convoluted not smooth and cohesive enough but good, back lights needs more intricate detail based on the original like this but updated to be astonished beautiful and unique. A really Good looking diffuser inho. This being Honda's flagship I'm guessing $48 base, 54 top trim. Integra adds $5000 to that
Great to see more all electric sports coupes coming to market! But I hope Honda decides against FWD and makes it a proper RWD sports car. It will be even more traction limited if not due to the high instant torque of EVs
Absolutely love the look of this and agree that for a concept car, it really does look so close to a production model that you could drive out of there today. I hope they don’t change the production model too much from this one and I’ll be in line to order one….just hopefully not for a 10k markup…..
I was jonesing for a Prelude in the 70's and 80's, but could not afford one. They were always 15-20% above MSRP and dealers couldn't keep them on the lot. I've owned an Accord, Pilot and now own a 2017 CRV. I could afford a Prelude now ($45-$50k???) so it's on the radar. Love the look and Honda's are one of the best brands out there. Thanks for the preview! Looking forward to more information and an interior view.
Lot to like here, from my perspective. As styling goes, I see a lot of 4th gen influence without being retro. Agree with Joe on that. Looking forward to seeing this make its way into production. Would love to see some performance from it to compete with the likes of the Z.
I am definitely loving the new Prelude, hope they offer as a hybrid also, with CTR level power, or just a bit less. 1.5 turbo with 175hp and e-motor with extra 75hp
You can’t go wrong with a Honda. I have a hybrid insight but the original coupe hybrid is over thirty years old and I still see them on the road the styling still looks fresh.
I graduated high school right as they sunset the 5th generation, and it may seem silly but owning one has always been a dream. At this point one that old is out of reach and it's harder and harder to find a unicorn among the last of the Accord coupes (discontinued in 2017), which is the model I settled for 15 years ago. I am over the moon at this announcement. Strongly considering being among the first in line...
The fourth generation Prelude was also the first to come with DOHC engine and VTEC technology. I still have my 1996 Honda Prelude VTEC and the engine still redlines like a beast!
OMG so excited for the new Prelude. My first car in High Schools was an '82 Prelude! I'd definitely get one of these, especially as a hybrid. I'm a 2019 Insight owner!
Heart pitter patter hearing Prelude… I’m right there with you! I still have my 1990 Si and I would be thrilled to add a 2026 to the collection! One question, any word on 4WS?
I had an 03 civic and accord coupe.. was disappointed when they stopped making the accord available in a coupe version but looking forward to this prelude for sure.. can't wait to drive one
Fresh out of college and making good money, my first new-off-the-lot car was a 1985 Prelude. Now that I'm retired and driving less, my last new-off-the-lot car could be a Prelude. (Honestly, I'm leaning towards the Passport.)
😮😮😮 wow I'm glad they're bringing it back the Honda Prelude was one of the most prestigious Vehicles made and yes a lot of people like them I had a friend that had one an old one but it was nice so kudos to the new 2026 Honda Prelude❤❤❤❤❤
I was preparing to buy a 2024 Lexus LC 500. However…this was my very first car in 1997…and I never thought it would be resurrected. I’m absolutely buying this instead.
I wish they would have left the parking light on so the dash was on. I don't see any front and rear side marker lights. I assume the amber yellow is in the front headlight and the tail lights up red from a side view. Glad to see coupes are coming back.
Great car and great video, but one important note: this is not an EV, it's a hybrid. A Honda spokesperson confirmed that on Twitter.

I love the way that you think!
honda confirmed that it is hybrid, not ev
@@kiretocinthat’s great news then.
Honda I can trust to get it
@@RaitisRidesA Honda spokesperson has clarified that the Prelude concept is built on a hybrid powertrain.
I have always had a soft spot for the Honda Prelude, from the early generation with the pop up headlights, it was such a cool car, and I think that the Honda Prelude was the first car to offer all-wheel steering, especially if you got the Honda Prelude Si, this one car is very cool, and I can't wait to see what the production version looks like
Great camera work. Car looks beautiful. Very Porche-esq. LED light placement were on point. Can't wait to see what Acura does with the design.
Yes very Porsche-esq, reminds me of a budget friendly Taycan
loved driving my 1986 Honda Prelude. This car pays homage to that memory.
I like everything about Prelude except that electric power. I’m a old fashion guy and I will always be like that. Nice review 👍🥂
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one!
It's a hybrid
Completely agree!
Great looking new car. Too bad it’s all electric. Thanks Joe. 👍🇺🇸
@@billyd7806it's a hybrid. Best of both worlds.
*Shocked to see a NEW Prelude* !! *Anxious to see your on throttle before I make any rash decisions* !! *FAB content Joe and Lori* !! #RaitisRides 🇺🇸
Wow! This is a sleek, stunning car! I liked the old generations and I think they did a fantastic job with this new one! Looking forward to see the drive!
My 86 Prelude SI was the best car I ever owned. I didn't always treat her well, and she still ran forever.
I miss my prelude!! It’s a yes for me.
Damn that’s a nice looking car and Honda dependability. Looks like a combination between Z and GR86. Hopefully it will be a production vehicle.
Love the way the third brake light is is integrated into the carbon roof. Clean looking car 😎
Yep, same as my 2024 Integra.
This car really is that exciting so I know how you feel
me too...I've owned 2 of the 4th generation Prelude VTECs and have pined for a Prelude to come back ever since your gen. I really hope it comes back soon.
We call ‘em Ludes in the tdot. This car will sell out.
I had a 95’ Prelude. Great car!
That is so cool Keith!
Love it. I owned 4 of them--the 5th Gens (97-01) were an absolute blast to drive!
I'm so excited that Honda will be bringing back the Prelude! I had one back in the 90's and loved it! Honda is the best! Period.
Needs a manual and pop up lights like prior preludes and a sunroof option.
This will be based on the civic type r but in hybrid form and coupe form. Imho
This dhould be the integra coupe as well .
Integra adds $5000 to that
I am liking the way that you think!
Great to see more all electric sports coupes coming to market!
But I hope Honda decides against FWD and makes it a proper RWD sports car. It will be even more traction limited if not due to the high instant torque of EVs
this will not be legit competition to the GR86 or Miata unless it's RWD.
Absolutely love the look of this and agree that for a concept car, it really does look so close to a production model that you could drive out of there today.
I hope they don’t change the production model too much from this one and I’ll be in line to order one….just hopefully not for a 10k markup…..
Looks awesome!
I have to 💯 agree with you
I was jonesing for a Prelude in the 70's and 80's, but could not afford one.
Jesus Christ this is nice but 2026?!?!
Time is just flying I could swear it was 2020 like last week. Crazy!
I bet this is exactly what they'll do
It would be crazy. Prelude > Celica > Mr2. Let see 😎
God i hope they dont put the garbage 1.5 in there, those engines suck
I had the 1980,s prelude lasted 10 yrs. I am getting the 2026 for sure.
I'm glad you reached Tokyo!
You can’t go wrong with a Honda. I have a hybrid insight but the original coupe hybrid is over thirty years old and I still see them on the road the styling still looks fresh.
I said it needed a comeback. I purchased the 1st Prelude in Simcoe County(Barrie, Ontario)north of Toronto in 1979 😊 At 69 I'm ready for this 🎉
I am very excited. My uncle had a prelude, and it was the first car i ever loved !!!
This is Honda coming back to its roots. This thing looks great. I started to worry with the more recent products, but this is what we needed.
I loved my 98 Prelude. A perfect looking car, the lines and dimensions were just perfect to me
I graduated high school right as they sunset the 5th generation, and it may seem silly but owning one has always been a dream.
Omg. My Prelude is back! I had a 1999 Prelude, and it was my favorite car I ever owned
Prelude is definitely iconic Honda & I’m excited to see again. ❤ to see a revival of the Del Sol & Accord V6 2dr as well. Cheers!
I had the 1986 Honda prelude SE, love it so much, I bought a 1989 SI years after!
OMG so excited for the new Prelude. My first car in High Schools was an '82 Prelude! I'd definitely get one of these, especially as a hybrid. I'm a 2019 Insight owner!
The return of the Prelude 🔥🔥🙌🏾 love the old school Pumas bruh…you content and delivery is 🔥🔥🔥 I love the to the door transition 😁😁😁
Heart pitter patter hearing Prelude… I’m right there with you! I still have my 1990 Si and I would be thrilled to add a 2026 to the collection! One question, any word on 4WS?
Lots of torque, touch screen, head up display, wireless CarPlay and android auto and I’ll be buying one👍
This doesn’t look like a prelude. This was one of my favorite car I had as a kid. I absolutely loved it.
Hybrid? Sounds good to me if they put an eletric motor in the back and just make it carry the 2.0t in front.
Looks real good. Real nice glow up really good. I hope it has some power behind it.
😮😮😮 wow I'm glad they're bringing it back the Honda Prelude was one of the most prestigious Vehicles made and yes a lot of people like them I had a friend that had one an old one but it was nice so kudos to the new 2026 Honda Prelude❤❤❤❤❤
I had the 4 wheel steering Prelude. It was fantastic and a manual transmission so of course fun to drive. Miss that car!
Just subscribed! This is the first Tokyo Motor Show I've missed since 2013 so I'm experiencing it vicariously through these videos!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! I had a 98 and tricked it out! Best car next to my Maxima. If they build it, I'll buy it!
From almost done restoring my 1999 prelude, I would love to own one of the new ones.
Great to have it v back ! it looks great! to it on the road in colors like black and gray and blue. I think it will look classy!
Thank ypu Joe & lori for the video! This comes back, i'll be one of many getting it !!
31k MSRP BASE + Dealership price 51k EVERY ADD-ON + only a limited number are going to be made 81k 🤣
That thing is clean, Hondas styling is unmatched.
They really did a great job for sure.
Had a 1992 Honda Prelude with an H22 motor and after market headers, 5 on the floor. I love and miss it so much!
That is so awesome!
This Honda prelude is gorgeous. I pray it is a production model. Thanks guy. I have a 2017 Honda civic!
