  • A Martin 45 powerhead and lower unit, with a 40 gas tank and cowlings.
New engine gasket set, poppet valve o-rings, etc.
Compression is 95 & 90 psi after putting it all back together, but it's having "issues". After a change in throttle position, it often dies, and is hard to restart. I tried a Tillotson carb from the Martin 40, and the Carter N carb that was on the 45. Perhaps a vacuum leak in the crankcase?

Nice! I just got a "60" back together and I'm working on a second one. Both were seized/stuck

I have / had two 60's, two 75's, this 45, and a worn out 20. When they're in good shape, they sure idle nice.

I also find the fuel ⛽️ shut off valve needs cleaned on all of my old Martins and I disassemble it to make sure I get everything. I have parts manuals I would send you via email or Facebook messages at no charge.

It sounds like the old girl is running out of gas. Will it stay running if you squirt fuel into the carb when it dies? Probably something simple!

I've drained the gas tank twice now to change carbs, and there's no issues with gas coming out of the tank. Both carbs are cleaned, and appear in good order. I'm running out of "simple", lol
