people take the piss out of seagull's, ive had from 1hp to 175hp and nothing is as reliable as a seagull..if you go to sea and don't have a seagull as your back , then your a danger to yourself, these engines never fail to start even with petrol that is 20 year old. my engine was not started in 10 years and was a bugger to start,it took 3 pulls !!!!! I was devastated as in never used to take more that 1 or 2, I have now even cleaned the plug, its next service will be due in 2040, for that service it will get a NEW plug and the points cleaned. ha ha brilliant engines and made in England.

I'm looking for a seagull, I just got myself a neat little plywood dinghy and thought a seagull would compliment it nicely. They're affordable too, some of the cheapest outboards available here in New Zealand.

So great to hear the old Seagull again. I had one on my clinker ply dinghi back in the early 70s. It never missed a beat.

I can't think of a better way of cleaning a wheelie bin ;-)

I second the guy who said every boater should have one of these tucked away as a spare. They are the toyota 22r engine of the boat world.

I can remember servicing these back in the 60s when I worked in a Boatyard, I still have a 2 cylinder 5hp Evenrude which probably hasn't been run for about the same time must get it out and have a play.

my grandad told me this story about how you could drop a seagull into a clean river, pull it out and it would start just fine again! i still use my seagull for my dingy in the summer, awesome little engine!

They are impressive - we had to wash the salt out of one that was dunked in the River Yealm estuary. which is salty.
It never started that well afterwards, but who can blame it?
Back in the '50S you'd see small yachts puttering along with a British Seagull clamped to a plank hanging out over the side. They were surprisingly good at this because of their (relatively) big props and low gearing.
It beats trying to row a keelboat!

Kyllä _ihminen_ on kekseliäs olento! Eipä olisi itselleni tullut ensimmäiseksi mieleen kiinnittää perätuupparia roskalaatikkoon - nerokasta! On tämä _TH-cam_ oikea luovan toiminnan kehto ja aarreaitta!

Unleaded with 2-stroke outboard oil on a 10:1 ratio.

Good idea - put the video on here! Before the Seagull, we had an engine called a Sea Bee - terrible temperamental thing. You never see them now - probably that's why!

That's nothing - you should have smelled the washing afterwards!

Is that Oxtail Soup going in the tank? Do these run better on soup?

    • @250tegra
      @250tegra 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup....
It'd be "petroil' mix that both powers and lubricates the 2-stroke engine.... and makes blue smoke too.
No longer recall what the fuel/oil ratio was, but it was pretty heavy on the oil.
There are/were oils available for this very purpose that were allegedly "fish friendly".
      Right.

My son was just "GIVEN" a really old Seagull engine Haven't been able to take a good look at it, but he's guessing around 3.5 - 4 hp Never heard of them but we will definitely be checking it out. Hasn't run for a very very very long time The person guesstimated it's from the 30's or 40's Any comments please? Thanks

I quite fancy a small boat for pottering on the river but I have NO knowledge at all on this subject! What size boat would this power? Also, I've seen reference to short and long shaft engines, which I presume is to suit the size or type of hull? How do I choose the type of engine and boat, help?

The wheelie bin is the property of the council and bye law 32 subs 6 para 4 specifically forbids this kind of thing.
