I had the carousel Beetlejuice, the wedding suit Beetlejuice, and Bob the hunter as a kid. I wish they would bring this line back like they have the MOTU, TMNT, and Ghostbusters from the 80s -90s.
We ALMOST got a Lydia cartoon figure from The Loyal Subjects but it apparently got cancelled 😭😭😭😭

My first introduction to this character was seeing the showtime figure in a barbershop when I was very little. Now I voice the guy!

I only remember the grave play set. I thought it was strange. It looked like a bed to me. "So why does bettleguese go inside the box frame?" Instead of lay on top.
It does look like a bed, but you can't bury a toy under the playset.
@Pegwarmers I thought he was under the bed. Either way my imagination went the wrong direction.

I do remember thinking why isn’t Beetlejuice wearing the striped suit(I couldn’t talk at the time but I remember thinking it)
My brother had the cartoon show on and he also had a puzzle and a coloring book
I remember kid me being disappointed the toyline wasn’t based on the cartoon. Even kid me could tell there was a lot more potential in that

Movie Beetlejuice is a sexual predator and I believe the toyline was released at the same time as the cartoon series

The carousel Beetlejuice came with the black and white stripey snake. The dragon actually belongs to the exploding BeetleJuice.
Yeah, I'm missing the snake abs got confused while filming.
I had only the three versions of Beetlejuice and the vanishing vault,i used to have him go up against The Real Ghostbusters long before Universal Studios Orlando thought of their live show

Had the wedding suit Beetlejuice, Harry The Haunted Hunter, the car and the Vanishing Vault. This was a great toy line overall.
And yeah, the new movie is fantastic! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Man, I got the wedding suit with spinning head and the stripe suit with carousel head when I was a kid, and first thing I did was swap the heads to get a proper strip suit with classic head! So funny, you guys did the same. 😅

I loved these figures I had tux Beetlejuice and stripey suit Beetlejuice recently got the fisherman one so nostalgic.
I wish they would have made Barbara Maitland,Delia, Charles and Lydia. They did have Otho
Glenn Shadix is the Otho actor. According to Wikipedia, he died from falling and hitting his head in a kitchen, not a fall down stairs.

I totally forgot about these Beetlejuice toys. I remember seeing the commercials for them on TV when I was a kid. They were also a constant feature in toy catalogs. There was even a Beetlejuice game for the NES. Goes to show how well the 1988 film did. Spawned a tone of merchandise and a cool cartoon series. Hindsight being 20/20 I think Kenner should have waited until the cartoon came out and built the toy line around that. The movie wasn't really for kids even though it was safe for kids to watch. I think if the toy line had been based on the cartoon, they would have made a Lydia figure. I think it was absolutely criminal they made an Adam figure and did not make Barbra to go with him. They should have made the entire Deetz family too and a house playset. For the most part the toy line we got was mostly just different versions of Beetlejuice and a few wacky vehicles.
The toy line had the potential to be a lot better than it was. Not sure what the reasoning was behind Kenner not making any of the female characters into figures. It's not like boys were opposed to playing with female figures. There was Teela, Evil-Lyn, and the Sorceress in the Masters of the Universe toy line and April O'Neil in the TMNT toy line.
Yeah, the film made a big impact.
I'd always wished they made all the main characters from the movie, but had never considered a house playset! 😯 Great idea!

Something to consider regarding the toys for PG-13 movies at that time was that the rating was still relatively new. I imagine the marketing and concept departments of toy companies back then just had to take a chance since the type of movies that achieved the rating were more diverse and less codified than nowadays.
Honestly when they sign the deals during reproduction, they might not even know what the final rating will be.

The 80s and 90s were notorious for making kids' toys from movies that were rated PG-13 and even rated R. Different times. 😂

Watching this made me want to make a custom Lydia. Maybe a Kenner Catwoman base with the spiderweb poncho? If we did get one back then she would have probably had rooted hair.

the cartoon had figures from burger king actually. they were really cool, like little reversible rubber statues. i had a bunch of those. the burger king ones actually had lydia and sandworm figures
Yeah, I miss spoke when I said McDonalds. They just unfortunately are not action figured.

Beetlejuice Variant 1: His head spins when pressing a button on his back.
Beetlejuice Variant 2: He has a top hat and tails that come out of his back.
Lydia: Her attire could transform from her normal purple shirt and pants to her red web gown thing somehow.
Jacques: Like the Exploding Beetlejuice, if you squeeze his legs, he'll fall apart.
Monster Across the Street: I honestly don't know... i guess, a mechanism where you could open his mouth?
Ginger The Tap-Dancing Spider: I guess Ginger could be a wind-up toy that dances.
Dragster of Doom: To replace the Creepy Cruiser, we get Doomie.
Sounds like some great ideas.

I had the yellow exploder and maroon suit head spin as a kid. Also had an animated series sweater, mom still has a school photo of me in it.

I'm surprised they didn't do a Lydia doll with different outfits. Could have the goth outfit with the big hat and veil, then the red wedding dress sold separately.
They should have made a Barbara one with her alternate face but also the skull under her removable head
Then they should have made a play set of the house with cheaper figures of the deetzs
I've had a theory for awhile now that the football player figure from Real Ghostbusters was designed for the BJ toy line, maybe for a 3rd wave that never happened? I haven't bothered referencing date stamps to see if the theory would even match up with the release timeline of the figures, but the color scheme used on that figure is so close to matching the football uniforms in the movie...
I think it's reverse of the movie.

i had so many of these as a kid! they were the greatest. i even had the car, motorcycle, and bed. my favorite one is shishkabob beetlejuice!

Holy snap, I knew I liked Tony but my god the man knows of Tattooed Teenage Alian Fighters from Beverly Hills. I had such fun watching that show as a kid, I can't imagine how terrible it actually is.

there was an action figure of the burnt cigarette man that did get made like a few years back from NECO/NECA and he was even in some multipack also
They made figures of Otho and Adam Maitland. And yeah Otho did wear robes in the movie, he has a black one with a dragon on it. Maybe to go with the release of the sequel they will make a Delia and a Lydia as well as 'Bob' and the police officer Willem Dafoe plays.
If only... NECA has some stuff coming out. Keeping my fingers crossed they do a full blown line.
I only had showtime bjuice, headspin and the coffin as a kid. Now I'm a year away from 40, I've almost the full set. Just missing most of the nasty neighbours and vehicles. Bit annoyed the new film will up the price.

there's a Geena Davis Cutthroat island figure. Plus all the Gotham divas, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, so what was the ( Star Wars with LEIA, later Rey) excuse for no Barbara, Lydia, Deelia figs for Beetlejuice? maybe with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, we'll get em.
The toy designers have always said little boys alway pick the female character as their last purchase from a line and since most kids don't own a whole line, the girls don't sell.
I had both Beetlejuice toy and swapped the heads.
The carnival head is a little odd on the Tux.

They did make a cartoon Beetlejuice a few years ago but he didn't come with lydia but the girl spider from the cartoon! Why do they hate lydia so much. She the most known female character in the ip. But yes there was one cartoon beetlejuice figure!
