Great tutorial. I learned a lot. I’ve been using paprika for a while and love it. In my family there is just my wife and I so we don’t need to cook as much food as some recipes make. Which brings me to a useful aspect of the app that you didn’t mention, the Scale & Convert button in each recipe. It allows scaling the ingredients to the size of your event and to switch measurements between US standard and Metric. Good job on the tutorial I wanted to learn about menus and the grocery list, which you covered very well. Thanks.
This is how you do a video. She has doing her homework and had a presentation plan - very clean presentation. I wish all TH-cam videos were like this. Paprika seems to be exactly what I need and I will be getting it. In addition I will be using this video as a guide to get started. Thanks
I use the pantry feature a lot. I even put paper goods, health and beauty items, etc in there. Anything you buy at the store, not just food related. I try to go to the pantry as I use the last of anything, on the spot and show it out of stock. Then I populate them to my grocery list. Saves so much time on shopping day, I spend less time actually looking in physical pantry, fridge, freezer.
I've been using Paprika for years, but never to it's fullest potential. I found myself wanting to do more meal planning so I was looking for a new app.. Then I decided to see if there was a video that showed how this worked in Paprika, and I found yours. Thanks so much for the great ideas. I also like to save personal recipes, and have always just taken a picture of the recipe and add it that way.
I have been using this app for years as well! I have been lax in adding new or experimental recipes that I have been perfecting. Thanks for the inspiration! One of my fav uses is the ability to increase and decrease servings. This allows me to decrease the recipe based upon amount of ingredients I have, cook for just the two of us, or increase the recipe to bulk size for freezing or cooking for a houseful.
Excellent speaking voice, kudos for avoiding the all too common 'sing-song' voiceover. Obviously a good working knowledge of the Paprica App. Thank you, I've watched many recipe apps and this review sold me on Paprika.
How powerful!!! I was looking for meal planning and a pantry inventory. Going to download it. I just began homeschooling my 9yo and he wants a say in dinner plans which means he needs to help me with meal planning. He will have fun using this.
I have my 85 year old Mother and my 65 year old husband with dementia to plan for, both with special “can eat, won’t eat, need to eat” needs. Most of you are probably busy Moms with soccer practice, dance class, work deadlines, doesn’t really matter. I couldn’t function without the menus to meal plan part of this great app. It saves me a ton of money, no longer just buying stuff I think I might use during the week, only to have it ruin and throw it away. Once I got recipes loaded in, I really used the “menu” section. I created like Mexican Monday, Tilapia Tuesday etc, menus, whatever makes sense to you. I put mains, sides, breads, desserts, etc in each day of the week category. You count the days of the month, like the 1st Monday as day 1, the next Monday as day 8, etc out of 30 days. First Tuesday was day 2, next was day 9 and so on through each day of the week. Then I went to the meal planner section, did a + on the first Monday of the month and clicked “add menu” and went to my Monday menu. It populates each Monday of the month. Repeat the process for each day of the week. You have to do the + on the 1st Monday, even if populating Tuesday. It takes a bit of practice, but I now have 2 months of planned menus without repeating a main dish one time. Now I can spend more time being a caregiver or busy Mom without having to worry about what’s for dinner.
Thank you for sharing! I was looking for a all-in-one app to organize my recipes or years. This is the one! Looking forward to watch your review on the digital panners and other cool app that organize life better. thank you!
This was very well done. Thanks. The only thing I can think of that you did not mention is that you can also add categories to the lunch, dinner menu such as snacks or make ahead. Thanks again. I will share this with my daughters. 😊
I love this app and have used it for years but not nearly as well as you use it. I love it because we go to camp with no internet and I easily take all my recipes with me. Thanks for showing me what else is possible with it.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been using Paprika for over 3 years. I was not aware of the other features - groceries, panty, meals or menus. I was just using it to enter, organize, scale/convert and download recipes. - which are so easy to use. I'm glad that I clicked on this video. I am now subscribed to your channel.
I just bought it yesterday. And now here I am watching videos AFTER purchasing the app🤦🏻♀️😂 I love it so far!! I love how I can find meals and put my own meals on there, plan my meals out daily, and make grocery lists and I LOVE that it puts them into categories on the list and I’m such a nerd for checklists!😂
This is such a great video! I really appreciate the time you put in to this. I was looking for a meal planning app and saw Paprika somewhere online so I came to TH-cam to see if anyone had a comprehensive video and yours was perfect! If I could add one thing, it would be nutrition information that you could sync to health apps. But, it's pretty close to perfect as it is!
You are a rockstar! I was looking for something like this. My wife and I are in our late 70s and now I have to do all the cooking, shopping, etc. this will work so good for us. I am subscribing to your channel now. Thanks &or sharing.
The only thing missing from this is a nutritional calculator or calorie calculator. Something the developers should definitely consider. It would make this app a one-stop spot for all of your meal planning, and you could then use it to view historical data on your nutrition. That would be an incredibly valuable feature.
WOW! 😮 What a fantastic video and exactly what I was lookin for! 😉 You are so articulate, getting right to the point and explained everything so well leaving no stone unturned! God bless you! ❤️ ~ subbed
Thank you for your thorough review of this app! I am going to start using this today for meal and grocery shop planning! I'm excited to see how this is going to save me time and money.
We started with Paprika by entering our current inventory in the freezer. It is time to defrost the freezer anyway. We have quite a variety of foods in that freezer. Should we list these as "frozen foods", or sort by meat, seafood or some other aisle category. We are hoping this inventory tracking will help us to do a better job of using foods before they expire.
Update: We decided to go back and re-categorize our frozen foods to the supermarket aisles. The expiration date is most important. Once all that is in, Paprika allows you to sort so the oldest items are on the top of the list. That is very helpful in managing our food inventory.
I'm impressed you're that organized! Ha. My family is all grown and gone, and so it's just my husband and myself to cook for. I'll take a look at this and see if it's something that I'll use. Thanks for the great video.
I have spent the last year making Prospre - Meal Planner which is available on iOS/Android. A little more geared toward fitness folks but would love to hear what you guys think!
I love Paprika! I’ve used it for years. I’m just starting to use the meal planning part of it. Your video was very helpful! But you did miss mentioning my favorite feature, the scale button. It’s so great when you need to double a recipe or cut it in half. It does all the math for you!
i know this was 3 years ago, just wondering if you would still go with paprika today over some of the newer ones like Pestle or Copy Me That? Thanks btw you're very beautiful.
Great video, very comprehensive. Question: can a recipe stay resident in multiple folders? I.e. Chicken Tacos resident in both the Chicken folder and the Under 30 Mins folder? Thank you for the review.
I totally agree with the frustration of food blogger recipes. Just put the recipes on the top!!!! I get they're trying to make income with the ads and links but just make it easy for the busy chef! Great video thanks so much will consider this app! Also what stylus did you use? Super cute!!!
That's pretty neat. Is there a way within the app to place an order for the whole list through insta cart or Walmart or similar? I think that'd be a great feature request if not.
I've been using this app for recipes for years and love it but never used the meal planning feature. Came here for more on that - clearly I've been missing out! Very helpful. Thanks!

However, BigOven is absolutely riddled with bugs, and has poor UI design, both of which make use of the platform increasingly frustrating. When I 'grab' a recipe into BigOven, it still forces me to have to go to the original website hosting the recipe every time I access the recipe (which drives me NUTS for all the reasons you mention in this video). My husband and I are looking for a meal planning app since both of our diets have to be different and this would help organize and plan grocery shopping for the both of us!!!
Thanks for sharing your review on the app. Can you add a name/comment to the timer? When your lasagna timers went off how you know which timer it was for?
You can label the Timer. On the red header, there's an Edit button next to "Timer" where you can label the task that you're timing 11:51. If you don't label it, it'll automatically categorize itself as Timer 1 and Timer 2, and so on. When her timer went off, you could see on the lower right hand side that Timer 1 was still going, which meant that it was Timer 2 that had gone off at 14:27 *Edited to add timestamps.
Can you plan common/ regular menus like breakfasts or lunches and it auto fills the week? Plan to Eat can do that. Can you also plan a month long menu and do a shopping list for just one week?
This was very helpful thank u 😘 !!! thinking about purchasing the $4.99app as it looks worth it. One important question can you print the grocery list to bring to the store???? Are there any other items you can print from that app?
Any chance it would add up the total macros / per serving / per day?! That would be awesome so you wouldn’t have to input that info into another app if you need to track your calories and fat grams etc.
How do you save a recipe that is within a ebook? And can you save the whole book at once or need to do page by page? Apologies if I missed this in the video.
Does this app allow you to tag/label recipes as multiple categories? For example: Lasagna is Pasta, but it’s also Beef. Also, does the grocery list compile the ingredients as necessary? For example: if three recipes during the week call for 2 cloves of garlic each, does the grocery list show a total of 6 cloves of garlic needed total?
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you! I just purchased the app and will play around with it more and keep learning. My question: is there a way that the shopping list will combine like ingredients instead of having individual lines? For example, I had a few lines for onions that multiple recipes required: chopped, half, whole, sliced. Will it combine all recipes and say I need 3 onions instead of multiple lines? I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
OK, so the way I do my meal planning is that I move recipes into my Meals calendar tab for the week and import the grocery list from each recipe. So what happens for me is that I will see “1 Onion - for Easy Paleo Meatloaf.” Then the next line will say “1 Onion - Spinach Soufflé”. It keeps them on separate lines in my experience. I hope that helps!
@@Amberwardell thank you!! That seems to be the most cumbersome part of the app. This weeks shopping list had cilantro 3 times spread out throughout the produce section. I'll keep trying to perfect it so my OCD can be satisfied 😃
I have tried to use paper to make a meal plan but I always miss place my paper or forget to check... Thank you so much for this I'm so excited to try this app
I’ve been using this app for YEARS and recommend it to everyone! Here are more tips: (1) you can set up as many categories as you want! (2) you can paste any recipe link into the browser tab, or if you have just copied a link and open the app, it asks if you want to download it! (3) on a desktop, you can pull in the shortcut and if you are on a site, click “save recipe”. This one just puts it in, but doesn’t let you categorize it, which you can do on your app. (4) it lets you email a recipe to someone. If they also have the app, they can click on the icon and it will import into their app! (5) you can scale up or down a recipe! So you are needing a recipe for 50 people, tell it that and the app will edit for you! (6) You can search by ingredients, so if you need to use up something, search for recipes or by that ingredient! This is BY far the best recipe app I have ever had and I LOVE it!!
Another feature I love is being able to add expiry dates to your pantry items so you can see at a glance if you need to use something up before it expires.
I'm looking for a recipe software similar to the Living Cookbook which is now defunct. So, please tell me if Paprika software "automatically" includes the nutrition information for a new recipe that you key in (not imported). The Living Cookbook would add the nutrition information as I went along inputting in my ingredients. That's what I'm looking for. Thank you. :)
I kind of wish I had an iPad for this app, because it seems very nice and seems to have a friendly UI. I'll just have to get it for both my phone and my laptop instead.
Thanks for making this helpful video. I have two questions: 1. Can you take a picture of a handwritten recipe and upload it to Paprika? 2. Can you add a favorite website that you use for recipes to the list on Paprika for browsing? Thanks!
How can I add a website, such as Pinterest, to the list of favorite sites? I don’t use most of the preset sights shown. Sorry to bother you with this kind of question, but I could not locate a help button.
Your kids are gonna want all your recipes someday. I really suggest you add the directions to all your recipes, even if you know what to do. They are gonna preserve the memories of their mother in your recipes.
Fantastic! Loading all our family recipes and it is very intuitive. Surprising my wife with finally being a better husband after 30 years.
Lmao
I'm gonna be a better husband after 1.6 years, hahaha
Im thinking about it after 56 years. Don't like to be rushed.

Great video, very comprehensive. Question: can a recipe stay resident in multiple folders? I.e. Chicken Tacos resident in both the Chicken folder and the Under 30 Mins folder? Thank you for the review.
The answer is yes, you can enter a recipe under multiple folders. Ex. pasta with meat sauce I have under Italian and under pasta. Hope that helps.
Thank you! I wish all reviews were this good. I feel like I can always use it since you have a great tutorial!
Really great review, and it helped me decide that Paprika is for me. Your video is much appreciated. Thank you thank you.

I just bought an iPad too and have lots of recipes to organize and have been looking into the paprika app, so this is SUPER helpful! Thanks so much!
Thanks learn alot from your video about the app.
Your review of this product --- seeing you use it -- was really helpful. I have been using the BigOven platform ('pro' membership) for the past 7 years, which has most of the features you have shown here.
Does it have a randomization feature for even quicker meal planning??
I'm looking for a recipe software similar to the Living Cookbook which is now defunct. So, please tell me if Paprika software "automatically" includes the nutrition information for a new recipe that you key in (not imported). The Living Cookbook would add the nutrition information as I went along inputting in my ingredients. That's what I'm looking for. Thank you. :)
No, unfortunately it does not automatically import nutrition information if you type it in yourself
Thank you for the review!
This is amazing! I'm going to try it out!!
Yay! I lope you love it!
Can you integrate this with a google calendar so i know what other events are going on that day to plan accordingly?
I've never heard of such app. Thank you!!!
You’re going to love it!
Thanks!
I don’t believe you can take a photo of a recipe, but I do think you can add a favorite website!
@@Amberwardell - It would be a nice addition, don't you think? Instead of having to type in an entire recipe, just taking a picture?!
@@BeautifulCalligraphyServices you could probably use some sort of scanner app or google lens then copy and paste
So great! By the way is this the 11” or 12.9” iPad Pro? 😊 Thanks for sharing the app!
Thank you! This is the 12.9. I am publishing a video later this week where I talk about why I chose the 12.9 and what I think are the pros and cons!
The Sensible Mama Awesome! Can’t wait to see it!
well done video - thank you
How can I add a website, such as Pinterest, to the list of favorite sites? I don’t use most of the preset sights shown. Sorry to bother you with this kind of question, but I could not locate a help button.
Nice video. Can the servings be altered after recipe is entered and if so, will it alter the ingredients accordingly?
Thank you! You can alter the recipe, but I’m just not sure if it will alter the ingredients. I’ve never tried that before!
Yes, you can change the recipe, but I’m not sure if the ingredients will automatically update or not
Yes you can scale a recipe and it will alter the ingredients
@@tomfirens1400 Thank you Tom!
My adult children want a recipe book of family favorites. Is there a way to share my recipes with them?
Your kids are gonna want all your recipes someday. I really suggest you add the directions to all your recipes, even if you know what to do. They are gonna preserve the memories of their mother in your recipes.
