Tis truly a shame they cant see the truth
At this point, the volcano is the only thing that has real meaning in the faction war. Samurai struggle to hold a lead due to a large amount of early players choosing them, then quiting after the first few seasons, thus, they have the debuff of being the largest pop (less troops per player), but having the largest inactive group, which nerfs their war capacity. The vikings were originally the smallest faction by far, resulting in more troops per player, but now they are popular, but a much higher percentage are active than other factions. Knights, being in the middle, didn't benefit from sheer numbers of players or more troops per player. It was rigged against the early popular factions from the start.
For new players wondering why this crusade is still a thing: The reason we Knights choose the Volcano over the faction war victory, is the worthlessness of winning it, and the fact that it is the one truely unique landmark. The only exclusive reward is somewhat unique ornaments.
Whoopdyfuckingdoo. You get better ornaments without winning the faction war. Therefore, the only thing you get from winning, is a mediocre ornament that shows that you were in the faction with the most coordination via discord or reddit. Holding the Volcano (known by many as the Vultcano), was a meme at first. My best guess is that it was a protest against the shitty rewards and balancing of faction war. Then, we realised it actually meant something. Regardless of these shiny ornaments, we could hold this zone, close to the centre of the war, almost always on the deployment line, against 2 factions, with a mighty army that dwarved both opposing forces combined.
Taking a territory is annoying. If you have pushed beyond the halfway point between you and one if the factions, it is very difficult to hold it without community wide strategy. You take the zone, sure, but you may lose it next battle. On top of that, when all 3 factions are at equal levels of territory control, it is on our frontline against the Samurai (their territory is known as the Myre), and one below the frontline against the faction that pretty much always wins.
I am currently looking at the war map of season 14 campaign 5. We all hold 29 zones. The Vikings will take 5 from us, and 5 from the samurai in roughly 2 and a half hours. We will take 4 territories on the Samurai front. Vikings will have 39, the Samurai will have 20, we will have 28. The territory above the vultcano will fall to them. but the Vultcano is the only territory on the map that has a defensive lead of 10 million, the Samurai will lose their only connecting zone, meaning that then, the Vikings will be our only opposition for the Vultcano.
The Vikings have occasionally come close, but have never held it for more than a few battles. the Samurai once took it. but to this day, it remains as a reminder that regardless of how the faction war is changed, the Knights will always hold the one true landmark.
It is funny. at first, the Vikings loved it, since it tipped the faction war even further in their favor. Samurai got annoyed because we often take the zone conneting their land to the Vultcano, which means we push into their 29 starting zones. We often sacrifice northern areas to push them back.
Then the Vikings made one mistake. They decided to try and take it. They thought we would be too busy with the Samurai. We held out several million stronger than both factions. when they eventually broke it, we took it right back. A friend of mine who played Vikings told me he was impressed that despite allowing them to take our northern line, the moment they took it, they got fucked.
The truth is, the faction war only matters to the Vikings and Samurai. the vast majority if knights only care about the landmark that is the Vultcano. A few shiny ornaments doesn't say much about you. Devoting yourself to the Vultcano shows your dedication to the one thing that the Knights will always have, and is the biggest fuck you to ubisoft in the entire for honor community. And at this point, the only way either faction is taking it, is sacrificing all strategy to wage a war on it, or capping zones around it to cut it off from knight territory. But since we have done nothing but hone our strategies to defend and retake the Vultcano , and the amount of territory cut in needed to surround it, and then the war that decimates Vikings and Samurai alike, by the time you have it, the knights are laughing at you, knowing that it will always be theirs. If the Vikings had a mead hall (bordering with Ashfeld) and the Samurai had an ancient temple (bordering with Valkenheim), I can guarantee that each faction would be hell bent on defending theirs and attacking the others.
My favorite comment on For Honor.
I was honestly hoping for the longest time that this would happen with Claw Island; it's a pretty decent landmark considering it's an entire separate island, but the Samurai rarely take it- when I play, that is. From the very start, I imagined my little Berserker with a little home there all nice and settled. When you tin cans started worshiping Ignis is when I actually started ever really caring about the map outside of the island, beyond understanding "deploying here would probably be best in the grand scheme of things".

Warden is effectively Ubisofts medieval Recruit. Basic and common, yet a powerful force and a dangerous threat. Lawbringer is a tad less common, but still a formidable opponent, when placed in the right hands. A team of Lawbringers and Wardens would make any heretical force pause before advancing.

@@MarcoYolo if I’m being honest? Pushing the volcano to the middle of the map would actually give the knights an insensitive to strategize and place their assets accordingly
Then if and when they do get it, it will actually be a good defensive faction area

@@hockeycrafter6086 there is a big faction war component to the game and at around 0:15 in the video he makes a joke about putting troops on a territory with a volcano which in game has 0 strategic value, ever since then people have dumped all their troops on the volcano, so the knights have an 8 million lead on that one territory but get bodied on all the others and basically have no chance of winning a single faction war
To be honest, thus video was the reason we won our only faction war, but sadly this was 3 years ago. We need a new crusade

On warden its part of his moveset; its a counterattack, done just like a parry but with a light instead of a heavy. The timing is more strict, but it is powerful against other wardens who don't know how it works, or people who love their top lights.

Holding the Vultcano has more significance than a few ornaments that are at best D tier. Its a fuck you to the designers of faction war and to both other factions, we don't take part in a retarded system that is poorly designed and gives nothing but a shiny new turd to sqyish onto your head as a reward. The real losers are the ones who fail to see that the meme became a symbol. No matter who puts in more virgin level teamwork to get a new shapenon top of their helmet, they still can't take over the territory that is always held by the people who are here to not give a shit about the lamest ornaments in the game. Woo, we gave up fun ti sweat out the war all for a piece of metal. If it looks like an easy campaign win, we will sometimes see if we can taie it, but we prioritse protecting our landmark.
