  • Hi Friends!
Today's video is a bit of a departure from our regular videos but it felt super important for me to do. I share a bunch of your beautiful responses to my instagram story and talk about what my experience with mental health has been, especially since entering the world of social media. I love you all!!!

One of the best things about 2021 is how seriously we take mental health issues. Support and speak up 🙌💯

"the negativity and sadness have become so familiar that it has masked itself as comfort." So true, thank you for sharing your struggle. I've turned to your "light-hearted comedic" work to help with my current rut. While i appreciate all your work to make us laugh, seeing my feelings in you, gives me a sense of validation and the potential to move beyond the rough times. Thanks again.

Remembering that your ego is causing anxiety about your “self”. Remembering that dropping that ego and being of service, or doing chores, and being in someone else’s bubble for a little while can quiet that ego. While it’s a permanent and very important part of us, some of us really need that voice muted. 😁

Never feel like you need to show up for us. We love you, but we know you’re a human being who needs to take time off. Also, when you are going through those moments, please know you can take all the time in the world (or whatever it is that you need to do for you). You should always be the top priority. ALWAYS. Second, just because other things are going on around you, doesn’t mean what you’re doing isn’t valid. We think about other people who are always doing stuff and we get jealous of their posts but never realize that those people probably never take time to themselves. I’d rather be self aware of my mental health while living a life that is fun but also restful. I cannot even begin to explain how much I relate to the FOMO and feeling like I’m not living a good enough life. But the truth is, there’s so much more of life to be lived. These moments that we take to ourselves are crucial to our growth, which in return helps us live those “fun” moments with happiness down the road. Sometimes forcing yourself to go out won’t change how you’ll feel, so you need to go through those moments. For me, my brain is my own worst enemy. I can’t trust it at all. Which is why I try to make a list of things that I really enjoy doing alone that can take me away from my thoughts when I have these moments. In my experience, sitting around listening to my thoughts is the worst thing I can do for myself, which is why I try and distract my brain until the moment passes. Of course actually doing that can be really hard because it feels comfortable to sulk. (I say “sulk” because that’s literally what I love doing.) Which again, is also why surrounding yourself with people is great too. It’s honestly all a balance.
What’s important is to recognize right away what’s happening and know that there’s a way to pull yourself out of it if you seek it out, however that may look.
Know we love you so much and that yes, this is all so so relatable. ❤️❤️

There is an audiobook called, ‘Gratitude Daily: 21 Days to More Joy and Less Stress’ by Nataly Kogan. It’s a 21 day program that you only have to listen 10 minutes a day. She gives you some amazing techniques and strategies for practicing gratitude in your daily life. It has changed my life. I re-do the program once a year or whenever I feel like I need a refresher

You are being too hard on yourself, love. As some comments mentioned before there’s no such thing as “achieving happiness” and what we see on social media ain’t real. Emotions are complex and life moments move so fluidly. We all should embrace playfulness 💜

OMG SERIOUSLY! The struggle of being self aware enough to ask for help but also not wanting to depend on someone for emotional regulation. And TRYING to find a balance while sprialing. UGGGGH. Seriously so relatable. I’ve def been feeling that recently.

Chris, this was a great episode. Thank you for being so open and vulnerable with us. It really hit home for me when you said that it becomes comfortable to be in the negativity because that’s something I have been working through in therapy. I am relieved that I am not alone in this thinking. I genuinely thought I was weird for feeling scared to get out of that place.

Thank you so much for making this video! Mental health is something that I feel like everyone struggles with in a way and there is not enough people who talk about it. When ever you feel down and feel like you can't make a video don't think about people hating because they won't and for the people that do they have their own hard thing they are dealing with. We love you! 💘

Thank you for sharing this Chris, I think that it is so important for ALL of us to know that we all go through this and its okay. Going for a drive has been my go to thing since I was your age, (long ago in a galaxy far far away) and it tends to be so much cheaper than retail therapy that when carried to an extreme can create its own set of issues. I truly enjoy you posts, both on your own and with Ian. Hang in there, you are much loved. BTW I love the silver hair. I always wanted to do this. Now that I am older, it is slowly happening on it own 🤓

Its good to stop and unwind and release videos that are important to you and something we can all gleam from. We're humans and imperfect and we all go through these form time to time but sometimes its a struggle indeed. I like the tips that your viewers are giving you. I tend to go with the silver linings approach and remember that things can always get better and be glad that things aren't worse off. It helps me remember that the universe doesn't revolve around me and that im just like many others trying to make the best of any situation and the results will always be at least 99.9% good and never 100%. Keep up the good work and hey, loving that hair style and color!!

You spoke so many truths of how I’ve been over the past several months. With both personal and health problems life has not been kind and with long term MH problems in the mix I’ve not been on the winning team much. I’ve finally just made a few big decisions and changes in my life and for the first time in a really long time I sort of see a glimmer of light at the end of my tunnel.
I just want to say a massive Thank You Chris. I found you on TikTok at a vulnerable time in my life and your open, honest, fun and vulnerable way has gotten me through a lot of sticky spots. You are a beautiful human being and I appreciate you much more than you will ever know. Hoping you find your peace ❤️

I just want to say thank you for opening up and sharing with the world. I suffer from depression anxiety plus so much more. I also have physical health and got addicted to my pain meds. I did a lot of praying during this time than finally I found a way out thankfully. But hearing influencer talk about these things and real struggle let's me and so many more know we aren't alone. I know many people speak about it and suggest things to help us. But some actually share their struggle with us and those are the ones I appreciate the most. See we look at you all and think they got it all together all the time. It's nice to see your human just like the rest of us...lol but truly know your not alone and that you coming and sharing your highs and lowes with all of us is reaching to more people than you think. So take a moment and take that in. That at your highest your reaching out to people and even at your lowest your reaching out to people. So hopefully this shows your choices to share this helps us and hopefully you at the same time. Thank you and Ian again for the great content weather it's smiles or frowns that you 2 are a great beacon to us.❤🧡💛💚💙💜

However, the past 2 days I have slept until 11 and have done close to nothing. I absolutely LOVE that you're being so brutally honest about things. It's very hard to really admit the real truth behind the feelings.
I like to journal but I have a past issue with someone stealing my journals and it makes it very hard to trust that I can privately have those so I scribble journal. I don't actually write the words, I just scribble lines. No one can read it but it gets things out of my head.
I thank you for doing this video and sharing yourself. A live video would be amazing too!!

Chris, all of what you have said is good. You should be proud of yourself and the accomplishments that you have made. Some of them have been more than some people could have handled. I hope you understand stand what a major accomplishment you have overcome. I think you have a good understanding of your mental issues and are able to work and understand them just don’t over think them. I wish you continued success working on your mental health. I have major depression and bipolar and it continues to get worse. It’s bad enough that if it were not for the Saint of my very soon to be husband I most likely wouldn’t be here. I mean to try to make you feel like you have a better handle on your life then some of us and I mean that as a big complement to you. My Bob keeps me going through all of my issues. All the very best to you and to your other support, of course we are talking about Ian. You are a lovely couple and I hope all the best and hope that some day we will hear you are engaged ♥️ Best wishes for your future 🥰

When I feel low or am just lost in thought of not being good enough or not feeling productive, then I always think about the people who do not have the opportunity to them as I have for myself and don't focus on the people who are doing everything and making it seem like everything is fine because not always everything is fine.... I am so happy for you to share these emotions on the internet because it really helps to share it with someone and it doesn't always have to be a person through sharing it here u are distributing ur thoughts and not burdening anyone and always remember to know that it is okay to feel these emotions..... Love you and Ian ✨❤

Im sorry that you had one of those days. Most of the time if I have a day like that I just get on youtube and get lost in it. Hell I usually find videos that make me laugh and sometimes that works. I usually also like to write or read stuff that Ive written before. Sometimes tho there are days where none of this is going to make it better and I have no energy to do anything but lay in bed and be antisocial. Please remember tho its okay to be this way at times and remember your not the only one going thru this and u may feel you are but YOU ARE NOT! I have different things that I can do! Those are my top ones but Im glad u shared this video with us. Your a beautiful person and I ty for completely allowing yourself to show us this part of yourself that most people keep hidden. This is very helpful content. We need more like this, I'm a Nursing student, 20 years old and I've been struggling with my mental health for a month now, in this field, it doesn't need weak personalities coz, day by day, the learning is continous, the confidence we need that we can handle everything in our studies smoothly and effectively-but at some point we forgot that problems left unresolved at all that's why, things in our head are getting messier and it is hard for me(for us) to cope up with it when our vulnerability is much affected by some situations. But one thing I am sure, I may not be that great friend or as a student, but I am the best version of myself now than 2 years ago. Thank you Chris, I love you♥️

I really like to journal. Just stream of consciousness put it down on paper because a lot of the times I end up somewhere I could have never imagined whether it’s the real root of the issue or even turning the whole thing around and letting go of the spiral.
Also while doing things like gratitude lists or what you like about yourself is great sometimes you’re too far down the spiral that you just have to turn off or focus on something completely different. So taking a nap is always a good thing to just stop your mind and give yourself a restart or going for a walk or working out to expel that stuck energy.

Keep an attitude of gratitude, stay in the present, and don't compare myself to others. Easier said than done, but you have to make it a daily practice, it makes it easier. I've been going through some of the same things.

I was going through a huge depression for the past month or so. I have been working with my therapist and trying to come out of it. I started a gratitude journal. I’m also using mindfulness and grounding techniques to make sure that I’m present in the moment instead of focusing on anxiety driven tasks.

I’ve been feeling exactly the same I just graduated and I feel so lost and have become such a horrible person purely because I’m so in my head and full of anxiety! I’m hoping it clears off soon because it’s getting a little much now☹️

Nene let me tell you something, I graduated two years ago and I’m still in a wtf do I want to do with my life like I’m late to become a veterinarian because a lot of ppl that I know graduated before me and already finished the DVM and that makes me feel like I’m not amounting to anything. I know that I’ll get there but it feels bad so I understand you very much. I hope you get the balance you need and a vision to what you want to do.

I'm 38 with a Pysch degree and over 15 years experience in mental health, and honeys 🍯 I have no idea what to do with my life 🙈 I started to burn out before the pandemic and then life happened and now I'm trying to switch gears. But you know the world is still a mess. At this point just try to do things that bring you joy, the happier you are the more goodness you attract and then the money will follow. 🤞🤣

No one is perfect. Don't think too much it's easy to say but I think as long as you're healthy. Life is too short to worry the future because when you're sick you can't do things. Being satisfied of whatever you have and contented makes you feel happy. Best wishes!

Recently I felt stressed and I feel like I am always carrying the world and trying to do everything so I looked up a song for the way I was feeling and it was called “take care of yourself” when I tell you I sobbed

I started to change how I say things I go with the "whatever follows I am will come looking for you" I stoped puting negative things behind "I am" out loud or in my head and it have taken a long time to get into the habit of it.

I can relate to the feeling you describe when you talk about not being able to cry. I really wanna cry but I can't. The last time I cried is months ago and I hate it but I have no tears for myself :(

In these situations, I'll usually call someone like my sister. And to be honest, it's not to talk about my depression but to just have a nice long conversation about a host of topics. I don't even feel the need to talk about myself so much. At the end of the call I feel better.

I feel this so deeply right now! And can I say (from someone from the “older” generation) for someone so young you are very wise! My 18 year old son has taught me so much and I think we “older” folks need to listen and hear what the younger generation has to say! Now as to what I do when feeling anxious/depressed, put on some good music and dance, getting out into nature always brings me peace and sometimes just sitting and allowing the sadness to be present helps me (with this one you have to be careful you don’t get stuck in it). Chris, you are a beautiful person inside and out! The next time you are feeling down, watch this video! You are your own therapist! Love and hugs!

I suffer from severe depression, ptsd and suicidal tendencies. It's been a real battle. It wasnt until 5 years ago that I actually started to get better. My husband finding me at my lowest darkest point when I truly had enough of life, felt like a complete failure, couldn't hold a job, found out I couldn't have kids, the mental decline had hit rock bottom. The evening before the day I planned to end it all the guy who would be my now husband asked me over to watch a scary movie. Sounds dumb but I never got attention, never felt wanted or needed, was left out even with family functions in my own home...was completely alone in crowded spaces and having only bottled up all my past traumas I was a ticking time bomb out of fuse...he was a stranger but my neighbor...we met only once before. I went over and he gave me his ear...something no one bothered or cared to do. I poured my heart out...I blew up and instead of freaking out he brought me comfort. Ever since hes helped me work through it all. I've never been happier and we were even blessed with a baby boy. I still have down days but I remind myself of how far I've come and how I have a loving husband and beautiful child...two things I thought were impossible for me. Gratitude. That has helped a lot. Forgiveness of all the things of the past. Selecting my company more wisely. and Hakuna Matata with a side of it will all be ok. Keep positive energy to attract positive energy. it's ok to have a down day just understand why and then let it pass. Meditation. Life is definitely better...not perfect but better.

I also graduated this year, Business Ad student and still not sure what to do with my life. I get it, I also feel that way. Sometimes it gets very dark, thinking about it. Whenever that happens I always that about my family and friends. How they supported me. For the past few months. I've been looking for a job and was not successful. My mentality is that "EVERY MISTAKE / REJECTION YOU FACE, IS A REDIRECTION TO WHERE YOU SHOULD BE".
Note: english is not my 1st language

I feel like about the mental load dumping I feel like it’s best to be direct with Ian. Like ask him if he’s available to talk about your mental health and your mental space and then it’s up to him to set a boundary or to talk to you and then it will no longer you dumping issues on Ian like it’s be a consensual convo about your mental state. I feel like sometimes talking to your partner is the best thing that can be done for some issues to get yourself out of your head. However, again, it needs to be consensual as in you’re not randomly dumping your issues on him but he is willing to hear you out. Also, about the college thing I’m in the exact same position. I thought I knew what I wanted but I don’t and I keep thinking that it’s kinda ridiculous to expect that people will find one career where they’ll be happy forever for their rest of their lives like humans are complex and our interest evolves so why should I be stuck in one career path? I feels like i’m being trained to be a monotonous if you get me?
