  • Bangkok is going through some big changes, They are mostly positive, I think the idea of putting the cables underground is great, I do have concerns with the execution of it all... I love Thailand and this is a look at how this country is constantly improving for locals and tourism!

    Not a simple job to simply just drop those networks underground. For the copper and fibre telecom cables there will be some huge amount of planning required not only to move it but also to ensure network downtime is kept to a minimum.

    Walking in Bangkok is a minefield to negotiate. At night it's even more dangerous. In my village I used to swim daily. One day walking across some decking it collapsed and I fell through up to my groin, my head struck a concrete post. The pool decking sub structure had been eaten away by white ants. Cut scalp and leg and deep tissue damage to my thigh and hip. The village management gave me a basket of that Brand chicken stock stuff to drink as an "apology". If it had happened in Australia I'd have been properly compensated.

  • @gloofisearch
    @gloofisearch 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Haha, love it. A lot of this is the same in USA in any city. Often you have boxes and poles on the sidewalk and always wonder "Who had this idea?". You can even see that in areas that are just 20 years old and it doesn't matter if on the East or West coast. I put an image of Bangkok style wiring on Insta a while back that was in Miami Beach and asked "Is this Thailand?". And I remember a big wooden pole with massive phone cables just at the corner of google HQ in Mountain View. Just imagine the "financial damage" this can cause if somebody cuts that down🤣. In Thailand it is part of the experience and maybe lack of funds, in the US, it is part of doing things as cheap as possible.

    The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration should be ashamed of the city’s poor sidewalks. It’s heartbreaking to see the never-ending digging projects all over the place, leaving the pavement full of ugly scars. Unattended open manholes are like Venus flytraps waiting for their prey. If anyone walks carelessly, they might end up tripping on dangerous objects on the ground.

    Sidewalk encroachment is a way of life in Thailand 😆 I’d hate to be in a wheelchair. Right outside Fortunetown has some of the best wires running everywhere. I saw them building a new paver side walk outside Lumpini - zero base (gavel underlay) just put the pavers on dirt, that will never last but TiT 😊

    All for infrastructure improvements as long as they benefit the locals above the interests of investors. Would hate to see Bangkok become sanitised like Singapore, a city where you worry about farting out of tune.

    I’ve been a “foreigner” in Thailand for 6 years. I don’t really haggle with the locals unless it’s outrageous. Don’t you feel a little obligated to give them the 200 even though it’s 150? Really just wondering how others feel

    • @keisone
      @keisone  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I expect to pay a fair price, I’m happy to go back and forth until we both agree, I think a lot of Thai people see foreigners as holiday goers with big wallets, it was very different here during covid and I got a much better understanding of what things should be worth

    Mate, I will Miss the ridiculous wiring because it’s one of the characterful ‘charms’ of the city.
    BUT it’s a shambles. The day that Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza get ‘tidied up’ will make it just pretty, modern but soul-less city

    I've wanted to skate so bad in Bangkok, but the streets are crazy busy and the pavements are shot to bits. Can you skate in any parks? I skate a cruiser board so I'm not interested in skateparks.

    being physically incapable to walk long distances anymore (at least for now), footpaths are the worst. especially with the walking stick. theres no ability for wheelchairs. period. i live in sathorn, one of the more modern areas and the paths are pathetic. ill forever complain about them, so im with you there, keisy!

    Expecting anything to be up to western standards is unrealistic. A lot of western countries still don't have all of their wiring underground. Enjoy what improvements you can get.

    Bangkok is sinking so the sidewalks are shite. They will need to fix them every year, so I think the just decided....what's the point???

    I think the government maybe needs tax revenue from buying vehicles. So they don't want to improve the sidewalk. There's a law 300% import vehicles tax in Thailand.

    I don't think these changes are for the better. Bangkok will just become another boring city and lose all of its character. Most cities around the world are becoming carbon copies of each other, it's sad to see!
