As a diabetes doctor, I recommend brown rice to all my patients over white rice... it has lower glycaemic index (rate of increase in blood sugar), so better for health and lower in inflammation!

Hi Dani! I'm so glad I found your channel. I"m a cancer patient searching for healthy foods to eat during my natural cancer treatments. On my first visit I found at least four that will work for me, and another few that will work with just minor alterations. Thank you. Seems so insignificant, but it comes from my heart. Blessings.

I think adding a little butter or oil is great... adds yummy flavor and definitely prevents sticking. And I've got nothing against some good, whole healthy fats... got for the body and the taste buds!

Try this: Puerto Rican Style Rice with....
We call it "Arroz con..." or "Arroz Guisado" (Rice Casserole)
    What you need:
1-2 tbs Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or vegetable oil)
    1-2 tbs Cooking Ham diced
1-2 tbs Sofrito (onions, garlic, green peppers, cilantro [coriander leafs]) minced or puréed
4-6 tbs. Tomato Sauce (Spanish Style)
    6-8 Olives
½ cup Cooking Wine (or half a can of beer) optional
2 to 2 ½ cups Chicken Stock (or 1 chicken bouillon cube)
2 cups of Long Grain Rice
1 Can of Pigeon Peas (you can substitute the Pigeon Peas for a can of beans, corn, chickpeas, lentils, an extra ½ cup of cooking ham, or any other legume you like)
    Procedure:
On a pot with oil over high heat, sauté your cooking ham until crispy.
Add the Sofrito and sauté being careful not to burn it.
Add the tomato sauce and olives and cook for a little while.
Add your wine or beer to deglaze the pot and add your rice. (If you are not using wine or beer, you can deglaze with water).
Add enough water to cover the rice about the thickness of one finger over the rice, cover, and bring to a boil.
Once it comes to a boil, lower the heat to low and cook covered until you see the liquid is almost gone and you have dimples on the top of the rice.
At this point you want to turn your rice ONCE. DO NOT STIR ANY MORE THAN THIS or you’ll get very bad clumpy rice… not good. (This is NOT risotto.)
Continue to cook until the rice is fully cooked through.
Serve with your favorite meat, and fresh green salad.
Goes great with pork chops, steak, roasted turkey or chicken; also great with potato salad or pasta salad.
Hope you try it and make a video on this.
    Great videos and tips, congratulations!

Your video was awesome! Very easy to follow, very thorough! Thank you. Just a thought... because the arsenic level in brown rice is so much higher in brown rice, I definitely think rinsing it (multiple times) is way better. :-) Perhaps the arsenic level in organic rice is lower, but, because the arsenic comes from the dirt it is grown in, it being organic may not help lower the arsenice level. Try
a Google search and find reliable sources that warn about the arsenic. I really appreciated this video.

I gotta tell ya... rinse or no rinse... it's still nutritious in my book. I can't get too caught up in the details because I'll go crazy. So even if it does wash aways some nutrients, there are still some intact... and that works for me;)

You must rinse and cook brown rice in lots of water because brown rice has high levels of arsenic. You should really avoid cooking it to absorb all the liquid because it locks in the arsenic

This was good, but I have long grain brown rice, will use 2 1/2 cups water next time I do the rice, I cook for 50 minutes and then let the pan rest for another 10 minutes. I make mexican rice with the brown rice, comes out really good, any southern rice dish would work well with brown rice, like jambalaya, adjust liquid and cooking time.
