    Putting out lines in these conditions is really giving the finger to Haulover. #2 wins!!

    Boat two was a win as well. You can't start changing the rules when you feel like it based on assumptions. Sorry but YOU made the rules! Ha ha.

      That’s actually been a rule on this channel from the start, putting passengers at risk gets you a loss
      Especially the kids didn’t even have a PDF, not that I can see at least.
      You must be new to the channel if you think that’s changing rules

    Love these videos. Whenever it’s rough, you guys ask “would you go out on a day like today?” I grew up in Hawaii, if you have a boat there and are not willing to go out on a day like this you’d never go out. But now that I live in Florida, I probably would not go out in these conditions. Though much different, even though an average day in Hawaii is 15-20’ waves, it’s deep water, they are rollers.

    Probably around 6-8 ft. Not sure why most of those guys were heading out. Going to be rough out on the water. Coast Guard will go out in rough days to train.

      I'd say 8 minimum. I usually go on the smaller side when looking at video, but I've seen videos of boats in 6-8 and those are a bit bigger. But, pretty good. I saw someone say 25.

    • @scottgorman7166

    • @erichammond9308
      @erichammond9308 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I give it 5 to 6 close in and 6 to 7 offshore - otherwise the Coast Guard wouldn't allow that RBM to go out. That said, given the right boat (namely a motor life boat) 20 foot breakers with a 20-30 second wave period is FAR easier to deal with than 8 foot breakers with a 7 second wave period.

  • @Grimreaper-ut5pj

    Re the Tiara, you're right. I would say if the captain is in the wheelhouse due to weather, the crew should be below decks as well. Until the captain turns off the fasten seatbelt sign. But anyone on deck is the captain's responsibility. So.....

      I had a 15' Boston Whaler I'd take through Barnegat Inlet in conditions like this just for the fun of it. I don't have too much experience with larger boats (and none in conditions like this) but I tend to think a smaller boat is actually easier here.

    • @erichammond9308
      @erichammond9308 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO, we'd NEVER train in 30 foot breakers! YES we can go out in that kind of weather, but NOT for training! Also, I'm not sure about the new 47's but in my day, you purposely roll the 44 footer and 1) the chief is gonna chew you a new one for the $10k (that's 1990 dollars) worth of electronics you just ruined AND 2) the engineers are going to kill you for the two gallons of engine oil you spewed out of the turbo chargers ALL over the engine room that they now have to clean up!

    I'm going to have to throw out a challenge to that call on #2. Yes, it was a *_very bad decision_* to allow the kid to roam around while the Captain requires *_all his attention on the water,_* but Haulover didn't win that round. The Captain's wife might beat the Captain if she sees this video, but Haulover didn't beat him. I can't give the win to Haulover just because of a penalty.

      Five, maybe six feet close in, 6 -8 feet farther out. Anything bigger and the Chief wouldn't have let the 45' RBM go out even for a SAR case, and these guys were definitely training (no urgency in the way they handled the inlet) The RBM is only allowed to a max of 8' surf and a max 12' seas offshore. Anything larger and you'd have to take the 47' Motor Life Boat. Oh, wait! The nearest USCG surf station is 400 miles north! 🤣

  • @ashleighelizabeth5916

    A person is riding in the front of the boat, I'm gonna give em the L. A man is standing behind the captain I'm going to give em the L. Dude make up your mind. Second boat looked like a deep sea charter, those mates know what they are doing and so do the captains, probably even has a cockpit camera to keep an eye on things back there.
    When I was surfing we would call this double overhead conditions... meaning If I was standing on my board at the bottom of the trough on a curling wave it would be twice as tall as I am.... probably about 10 foot I'd say.
