      I was out boating with my daughter yesterday in DC. Some guy in a high speed chase ditched his car on the Memory Bridge which spans the Potomac between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery and then jumped in the river to get away. It was all hell broke loose. There was a helicopter trailing the car that kept doing high speed circles around the west end of the bridge, then literally every emergency/rescue boat in DC/Arlington showed up and like 5 fire trucks and 4 ambulances.

    Hi there I’m a PWC Rescuer Operator at Haulover Beach Ocean Rescue. We respond to all incidents in and around the Haulover Inlet. If we get a message on Channel 16 about a distress call in Haulover or 911 emergency call (especially it’s inlet) go ahead and radio for Coast Guard and Haulover Ocean rescue. We deploy our PWC right off the beach and Fireboat 21 will always assist. We have a fast response time if the call is made quickly enough. Thank you and stay safe out there Haulover boaters 🙏

    • @christophergutierrez2326
      @christophergutierrez2326 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @Bob Watters we’re not coast guard, we’re Miami Dade Fire Rescue. If coast guard gets there before us, that’s the bill. That’s why I commented boaters or bystanders to call 911 or radio Miami Dade Fire Rescue, and we’ll be there with the fastest response due to our launch locations (Haulover Beach & Haulover Marina)

    • @travisely5576

      @Bob Watters There is no charge to be rescued by the Coast Guard

    • @Propelled
      @Propelled 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Often times, I believe that there SHOULD be a rescue charge. Perhaps that might think people not act stupidly. The cost of their stupidity shouldn’t be born by those who plan and act responsibly. Yeah, I’m being a Karen here but as we’ve all seen, a very high percentage of the incidents shown on this channel are completely preventable. It’s like paying someone else’s DUI tickets.

    • @georgeofthejuggle

      There is only a charge if you request a rescue from The Hoff.

    • @VictoryAviation
      @VictoryAviation 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The coast guard dispatcher was the one massively failing in this rescue conversation in the video. The civilian captain described the situation well enough to understand in layman’s terms the details over and over. It was painful to listen to him repeat himself constantly.
      From a former police officer, emergency highway first responder, gunner in Iraq, and current commercial pilot in training… all requiring professional radio communication. It sounded like coast guard dude’s first day on a radio. A lot of police dispatchers are the same way. You tell them an important piece of information and because they’re thinking of their next question instead of listening, they ask a question about the exact information you just gave them. Experience helps with this tremendously and some dispatchers are so on point that it’s mind blowing how fast they extract the information.

      It is a very narrow inlet and a huge bay inside it. When the tide is ebbing in that bay the current in the inlet can only be very fast. It would appear to be the running of a fast tide meeting an on-shore swell that produces the very rough conditions at the inlet entrance.

Brings back a memory of when I was a kid and my Uncle had me at the front and hit some rough water. I flew 10 ft in the air and off the boat. Thank God I was a good swimmer and never did panic but the large fishing boat behind us picked me up. Last time I stayed up front until we were out in calmer water. Not exactly! You just cant go bombing out the inlet. You try to keep the bow up and have a good rhythm with the waves. If you watch some of the videos of boats flying out an inlet, they usually end up landing flat or slapping the water hard with passengers taking a beating. It depends on the person’s experience also!

      Keep the trim so the bow is up, enough throttle to be on plane (most boats will lift quite a bit) and modulate the throttle to keep in sync with the waves or you're gonna slap and bang

    Looks really intense with 2 knots current and 2-3ft wave. What recommendation would you give to a SF Bay sailor who’s used to going through comparatively benign Golden Gate on 25kt wind on 5 kt current with 9ft ocean swells, on how to get through this inlet?

    I don’t know this area at all but I’m guessing the second kayaker could have paddled parallel to the shore and then headed in on the beach instead of trying to go back straight into the strong current in the inlet.

      @borysnijinski331 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Taking a kayak through that inlet is insane.

    • @ianmc6200
      @ianmc6200 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really many ocean kayakers have been in much larger beach breaks. The waves in this inlet don't really break either they roll so just you just roll with em. Obviously it is dumb because the traffic of boats and speed they go through but minus the traffic its not too crazy. The guy was not smart to fight the current. He should of just let it push him far out then paddle parallel to the beach and go in at the beach.

    Way back by the Sand Bar where common sence shoulda kicked in. 20 mph Winds squarely hitting a strong outgoing Tide is no place to be with a paddle. Great job on quick thinking Capi & pulling guy out. Sharing & perhaps answer friends Q- on why im not out rc Flying.

    I’m an avid kayaker, do a ton of sea kayaking, and would never have attempted this in a sit on top kayak. They just don’t respond well, basically drive like a tank.
    I may have tried this in my 16’ Old Town Adventure XL with a skirt on.
