Great review... thanks so much!! . You have a new subscriber. I turn 62 next month and have not ridden a bike since I sold my Harley Street Glide 17 years ago. I am buying a new bike for my Bday. I know they suggest lighter bikes as you age so would not buy a Harley Bagger but fell in love with the new Low Rider ST which weighs 100 lbs less then the Street Glide. I live in Austin TX and want a bike to cruise around the city but also take 4 hour cruises in the Texas Hill Country. I have to be honest and this new Scout 101 appeals to me just as much as the Low Rider ST even though the ST has that sweet 117 engine which is a torque monster plus has the fairing and saddlebags. . I do NOT like riding 100 MPH but love going from 0 - 60 as quickly as possible. I watched other reviews of the new Scout so I know it rips when you get on the throttle plus I believe it weighs 527 lbs which is a low compared to the Low Rider ST which weighs 727 lbs. That 200lb difference is huge. I would add leather saddlebags to the Scout which will slightly increase weight and also change pipes and do a stage 1 upgrade. I know you mentioned you also own Harleys so would greatly appreciate your thoughts as to which bike you would recommend. For a brief moment I considered a trike but feel like I can wait until I am 70 to get on 3 wheels. Thanks again for the review and look forward to hearing your recommendation. Safe travels my friend🙏
I’m glad you enjoyed the review! I rode the low rider st the day after this. Heavier, still fun. And the 117 is great, but this scout with a set of bags on it would be superb. Wouldn’t miss the low rider at all. If you have the chance to test ride both before you buy, that’s always the best option! But Indians quality is second to none. Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! I greatly appreciate it 😀 Ride safe and have fun ✌🏻
@@MOTOBLADE Thanks so much for the quick reply. The fact that you rode both bikes and say you would not miss the LowRider speaks volumes about the Indian. Let me ask you this. Because the Indian is almost two hundred lbs lighter, did you find that the toque was comparable to the LowRider? I love to get up and go. . Its possible it may actually pull harder due it's lighter weight. And do you feel it would be a good bike for the longer cruises through the Texas Hill Country. For some reason I thought heavier bikes were better for cruising but I am not looking to go cross country and just spend a few hours riding those Texas backroads. As I mentioned my last bike 17 years ago was a heavy StreetGlide which is why I have that thought stuck in my mind. Thanks again for the advice and great channel!!
@director2bob the acceleration just based on feel with good ole “butt dyno” test felt very quick. Obviously it’s not as much torque on paper as the low rider st, because it’s a smaller engine, but it is liquid cool and it’s much lighter. As far as an afternoon of cruising, I stand by what I said in the video about taller bars and maybe a better seat for “touring” but that will depend on how long you intend to be on there.
For various reasons, the short answer is I would take the sport chief out of those 3. Long answer is I have videos on the other 2 bikes coming over the next month or so. Filmed. Just waiting in the queue. I don’t need the sporty smaller style bike. I like the sport chief because it’s the 116 engine, more torque (again much larger engine) and it can be made into more of a comfy cruiser/bagger which is more my style. Still being able to rock that awesome sport mode when I want to. Just my opinion but there’s more options and things you can on the sport chief platform. Best suggestion I can make, as always, is to test ride them for yourself. You will usually know right away which one you like best. Hope that helps ✌🏻
@@TheUrbanEpicure It fit me great. I like forward pegs and tall bars on any bike, so that would make it more comfortable for me because I’m short. For a taller guy you’d probably have an easier time reaching the bars. Best advice I can give is go sit on one at the dealership and take it for a test ride before you buy any bike. Usually you’ll know right away if it “feels right” for you
I tried the 975 and the old Scout. I found the Nightster superior in every aspect except for the aesthetics of the left side of its engine. I definitely need to try the new Scout 1250 and also the Triumph Speedmaster 1200 before deciding which will replace my veteran and beloved Sportster 883.
The new scout with the 1250 definitely beats the nightster. Its more direct competitor would be the Harley sportster s. Another option to possibly consider is the Hammer performance 1275 kit for your 883. I have that in my 883 and love it. With a good air intake and tune I nearly doubled the torque from factory stock when we ran it on the dyno.
Since you gave 10/10 on power, I wanted to know what’s ur thought on sportster S ? 🤔. Thanks and would you be able to do comparison on those two please ? I am still indecisive between those two.
I've seen the reviews, some good some average, but overall it seems to be a good bike. I am 6'2" would i fit okay? comfort- i would primarily ride to and from work, city area to the Island AVG 1 hour commute.(NYC - Long Island). Does it handle bumps okay? Stop and go, quick to accelerate when needed? I have a long arm reach and long legs, so the forward controls should work for me, your thoughts? Is it worth the price tag? I see the Sport Scout limited w/ tech package as well. Same engine but I don't see the same power outage. Any advice is appreciated, a great information video for sure, I learned even more with your review. Thank you
I will do my best to help you here but the BEST info I can give: go take a test ride on both from an Indian dealer. Lot of cash to drop, if a dealer won't let you test ride them both, take your business elsewhere and find one that will. That said… I'm 5'8", bit shorter than you. I didn't like being leaned forward as I'm more into cruisers, you will benefit from having longer limbs and the pressure will be better for you most likely. The suspension is fully adjustable and (at least for the road I was riding) soaked up a lot of the bumps and lumps in the road. Power and acceleration are SUPERB. Based on the information you stated above, I would advise you look at the sport scout limited with tech package. Why? More upright riding position with the bars and it has forward controls. Base model +tech package is $2500 less than the 101. Throw some bags on it and you've got a commuter. You noticed it's the same engine right? The 101 is unlocked with a performance calibration from your dealer (Indian lists this as currently $219 on their website for the calibration, most likely just a fast ecu unlock). Still come out ahead, already setup to be more comfortable. It's what I would recommend. Go back and read the first thing again though- try them both and see what you like, that's really all that matters. Hope that information all helps, thanks for watching!
and in case it wasn't entirely clear in my comment above - you can buy that calibration for $219 and unlock the full potential of any of the new speed plus scout engines - it just comes "standard" on the 101 scout from factory, hence why all the test rides on the 101 are cooler :)
I’m sorry, but I don’t know that for sure as I was only on the bike for a little while doing the demo and test ride. I also couldn’t find that information on Indian Motorcycles website for the 1250 Indian Scout engines.
The scout lineup has got me considering an Indian for the very first time. One question though, how do you feel about the mirror's being mounted the way they are? Looks a little awkward to me but do they function well?
@@TL-il1mx mirrors functioned just fine. No blind spot the way they were sitting for me. Barely noticed them. Best recommendation I can make if you’re considering an Indian - go test ride one! You won’t be disappointed 😀
Hey man! Great vid. I started riding last summer (have a Honda xr150l) and am looking to get a bigger bike. Have been looking at the scouts and heard a ton about them and done a ton of research. This new lineup looks incredible. Im 6'2 so am a little concerned about comfortability with my back. Will be going to test drive them soon, but any suggestions, tips, or thoughts as im looking for my first "bigger" bike?
Remember that sitting upright and getting bars higher will straighten your back and make you feel way better. If a bike is good, seat, peg, and bar position are an easy cheap fix to fit it to yourself. So focus on the bike features - what you like and what you don’t, and remember you can change the “rider triangle” if necessary. One other thing - I love the look of the 101, but the sport has a more upright position if that helps. Other thing to not with a bigger bike - use caution if you put it in sport mode. It hauls butt 😎 have fun and ride safe brother ✌🏻
@MOTOBLADE Thanks man. My friend has the Sport Scout so I'll def take a look at that and see if it's more comfortable. I also LOVE the look of the 101, but at the end of the day, if I'm uncomfortable it's less safe. I'll try them all out and see how it goes. Wish you the best bro! Thanks for the tips.
This is an appealing bike with a lot to offer. What I run into is access to reasonably closely located dealerships. Has Indian published projected dealership openings?
Vermont is FINALLY getting an Indian dealership. Access to dealerships is the only issue. I wish they would show a "coming soon" section of dealer maps on their site but they do not. I've been doing my own maintenance for 5 years. I'm so ready for the Indian dealer to open!!!
@@toddparsons2980 As popular as this new 101 scout is, Indian is bound to keep it around for several years at least. And *usually* every year they update with new color schemes, so maybe next years model will have some different colors for you. Stock tires are as follows: Front: 130/60B19 61H Rear: 150/80B16 77H.
The bike is beautiful, from all the reviews I've seen the performance is also excellent, but two things I would like to see on the Scout 101, a bigger tank (4 gallons maybe) and the option of matte black paint.
A matte black design would be cool - and you make an interesting point with the tank. I could not find a MPG claim on Indians website for the bike. So I don’t know if it’s ‘super’ fuel efficient or if it would greatly benefit from the larger tank or not. Would be nice to have some claimed range or mpg numbers for a bike when they release it 🤷🏼♂️
The ride modes make it very approachable for a new rider. Handling is wonderful and it’s a very good reliable bike that you won’t get bored with and have to “upgrade” to something bigger and faster later. If you are a newer rider, don’t use sport mode (yet). Heck, even keep it in rain mode if you want for a bit, but standard is absolutely fine for everyone to ride comfortably with. Once you’ve built your skills with time and experience, open up sport mode! I’ve seen beginners take on huge touring bikes. Not about the bike, about being smart and riding within your limits until you’re comfortable. It would be awesome as a first bike!
Yes! I double-checked Indian Motorcycles website and they have a mid control setup as an option. Could have dealer do it, or install it yourself. Hope that helps!
How about addressing Maintenance. I understand these engines have cam chain tensioners. How often do they need to be inspected/replaced? No one ever talks about this in reviews...
I wish I could address that for you but I truly don’t know. We didn’t exactly do any maintenance to the bike or pull it into the shop during the test ride.
Lots of different options available. I prefer saddlemen seats for long haul comfort and I have a few reviews on them on my channel if that helps you out. I will have a review out on the new scout with taller bars. But Indians website has lots of accessory options with pics to get your dreaming about bike building. Hope that helps! Glad I could sell you on a 101! Be sure to let them know I sent you 😂 maybe they’ll sponsor me
I preordered it 1 week after i saw the trailer. I am from greece by the way, i still dont have estimated time.of arrival.... As i see it and my delaership sees it, best case scenario end of July... man i feel so envy watching all those test rides!
I actually don’t know that. I’m going to say that I do not remember seeing one anywhere. I don’t THINK it does. Unless it’s under/behind the digital gauge somewhere.
I like the paint jobs they did, but it would be cool if next year they added a “dark horse” trim package like on the bagger and touring models. All blacked out trim with the solid ‘smoke’ colors. I think this year for the introduction of the bike they were trying to pull a lot from a “heritage” theme into the bike.
I’ve ridden the night rod. Doesn’t hold a candle to the Indian 101 Scout. This is one of the fastest little bikes I’ve ever ridden for speed and acceleration (excluding actual liter sport bikes of course).
@@freebehindbars8654 just rode a sportster s at the same demo event. My choice would still be the 101 scout. The sportster s is no slouch, but just by the feel and acceleration, the 101 felt like it packed more punch. That’s just acceleration. You add in the looks, and the ride command tech, suspension, and design - Indian 101 Scout wins easily and it’s not even close (just my humble opinion :)
@@MOTOBLADE I’d go with that Indian out of those two, but I was referring to the” fastest little bikes you’ve ridden”. I wouldn’t own a Sportster S, but it’s quick in a straight.
@@MOTOBLADE Power To weight is a thing, but that seat dyno is subjective. Sportster has significantly more hp, torque and lighter than this 101. I’m glad Indian is pushing this direction. Hopefully HD will put that RevMax from the Pan Am in a sub 500lb bike.
This thing looks great and my buddy rode this at Americade in Lake George (which looks like where you are in this video) 😂 He said this bike is amazing ... Thanks for the review.
My milion dollar delema, 45 coming fro. 250cc dirt bikes getting my first street bike. Thinking of putting 6 or 7 down and financing the rest. Totally cant make up my mind. Lol
I don’t know if this helps you make a decision at all, but I’ve attached a link here to my review of last years Indian Scout rogue. My personal opinion, I liked the 101 Scout much more for power and looks, but the rogue was a little more comfortable. If you have the chance to test ride both, that is your best option. You’ll usually know right away which one you like better. Hope this helps! Full Review Of The Indian Scout Rogue: th-cam.com/video/5OuV3wf2XaA/w-d-xo.html
Hey friends For 5 years I rode the Scout, an amazing motorcycle. Then I took super chief limited A powerful and comfortable motorcycle for long journeys, noise, open exhausts of amazing Indain But I was too heavy over time after two years I have now purchased the Rogue Scout 2024 but am angry that I saw the new 101 Exactly the perfect motorcycle for me, double disc brakes for safety A clock face like it needs improved shock absorbers and a lot of power in the engine no more is needed Friends go on the 101
When I was building out my Iron 1275 bike, I relocated the Speedo using a kit to put it down on the side so it was just visually clean straight up the tank and through the bars. May be something available for this bike in the future - considering how POPULAR this bike is, it bound to get a lot of aftermarket pieces.
Just my opinion here, but I have ridden the Rebel 1100. Didn’t like it for multiple reasons, won’t go into tons of detail here as I already did a whole video on it. I wouldn’t even put it in the same category. For speed/power, handling, comfort, tech, and design (what else is there?) the Indian 101 Scout wins easily.
😂😂 good point. Little TH-camr secret: it’s all about the algorithm. I run A/B split tests for thumbnails and video titles live from the moment a video goes up. I have software with TH-cam that actually tweaks the titles to find the best one during testing to get the most amount of views, watch time, viewer retention, etc. It’s pretty cool stuff, but my software might believe in me more than I do😂
also being an indian owner ... the heritage of this indian only goes back till 99 victory had a better linage than the hd clone indians. indian was defunct in the 50s, theres no thoughline from the original company till now.
Possibly! I’d probably go for the scout classic at that point with some bags and taller bars. But they’ve got 5 versions of this new Indian Scout to choose from.
Rode the Sportster S after this. Both fun, but the Indian is far more comfortable, better looking, better tech, and sounds better (just my opinion). Sportster S is no slouch but felt like I was riding on a hard brick compared to the 101 Scout.
I’ve ridden several Harley sportster s over the past few years. While on paper or at the track in a straight line it may be the better bike, my 2 cents is this: the Indian 101 scout handles better/corners better. It is more comfortable, sounds a bit better (the s sounds like a sewing machine), and looks way better (but that’s definitely personal preference). Also, just a seat of my pants test, but it feels like the acceleration on the 101 is better, for top end speed you’re never going to reach it unless you’re at the track or doing something you shouldn’t be anyway 🤷🏼♂️ that being said I have a video on the sportster s 2024 model coming in a couple weeks for a comparison, because a lot of you guys having been asking about it 😀
Sure the harley has better specs but it's not really a competitor to this scout. It's a weird hybrid bike closer to the FTR which is much better than the sportster S. This scout 101 is a proper sport cruiser in look and feel.
Harley has parts made in India. Indian has parts made in one of Polaris' plants in Mexico. Indians come off the assembly line in Spirit Lake, Iowa. You should take a tour of the manufacturing facility sometime :)
Still has some styling similarities with the blacked-out look and the 'I' Indian script logo. But overall it was a styling redesign. I agree, it looks great! Indian did a great job on the 101 Scout.
I don’t dislike it that much, but I admit it’s not my favorite exhaust they’ve ever designed. Now that it’s been out a couple months there are some aftermarket pipes starting to come on the scene.
That’s the nice thing about Indian having so many options in the scout lineup between classic, bobber, 101, rogue and super scouts. Lots of options for everyone. I personally can’t stand chrome. I have a little on my bike and it’s okay but I much prefer the blacked out look. They’ve got us both covered ✌🏻
@@MOTOBLADE Im ok with blackout on sport bikes like my MV Agusta F4 and my Ducati Panigale. Just not on a cruiser. I will say that the the Scout overall is just about the best looking of any bike on the market. Such a perfect looking bike

What are the ergonomics like? Do tall guys fit okay? It looks like a compact bike. How tall/heavy are you and what was your experience?
You need to try the 1250cc Sportster S
Awesome bike! i have two Indians, a 23 Sport Chief and a 23 FTR Carbon!
@@alexmaresh6005 ooh I’m jealous. I really like the sport chief!
Since you gave 10/10 on power, I wanted to know what’s ur thought on sportster S ? 🤔. Thanks and would you be able to do comparison on those two please ? I am still indecisive between those two.
I have a video on the sportster s coming soon. It’s all done and filmed, just need to finish editing!

@@frankduenas141 you’re welcome! Glad I could help
That said…
I'm 5'8", bit shorter than you.
HI Motoblade, thanks for the review. What kind of range do you get out of the 3.4gal tank?
@@MOTOBLADE thank you
You’re welcome!
Hey man!
@@BigAlMicrowave Happy to help! Thanks for watching :)
Nice video keep up the good work
@@MarcusTurner-db5qv thank you sir! I appreciate that a lot.
Looks great. Wish there were more color options, not into red. What is tire sizes?
Would be nice to have some claimed range or mpg numbers for a bike when they release it 🤷🏼♂️
Do you think this bike is too much for a first time rider? I’m interested in a scout but conflicted on which one to land on
The ride modes make it very approachable for a new rider.
Agree!
My 2021 scout hits 60 mph in 1st gear and about 80 in second. Lol
@@MOTOBLADE thank you for the feedback! Much appreciated
@@definitelyzee150 you are very welcome. Whatever you buy, have fun, ride safe, and just keep learning and building those skills ✌🏻
G’day Mate - Question: Which Scout would you pull the trigger on, if back comfort was important? I ask after listening to your comments….Cheers.
I pick mine up tomorrow. I'm fine with the bars where they're at.
Congratulations! Have fun and ride safe bro ✌🏻
Only limited plus tech has the key fob. My sport scout is still keyed ignition
Good to know, thank you!
I will say I do like the duel exhaust on the older ones
I do as well. I think it looked a little more classic.
Can mid pegs be fitted?
Yes! I double-checked Indian Motorcycles website and they have a mid control setup as an option. Could have dealer do it, or install it yourself. Hope that helps!
Hope to test ride the 101.
Do it if you have the chance! It’s amazing!
Video quality is crazy
How about addressing Maintenance. I understand these engines have cam chain tensioners. How often do they need to be inspected/replaced? No one ever talks about this in reviews...
I wish I could address that for you but I truly don’t know. We didn’t exactly do any maintenance to the bike or pull it into the shop during the test ride.
I believe its 30k miles between cam checks. Seriously - much improved. Plus with the new engine, you don't have to drop it to check cams.
I think you just sold me a 101. My problem is touring 2-up. I know I can change the seat and windscreen but how would it look then?
Several options - check the Indian website.
There are some guys here in the U.S. starting to receive theirs with more shopping this week! Hopefully yours will get there soon!
Hey, thank you for the video. Does it have a usb charging point anywhere handy?
I actually don’t know that. I’m going to say that I do not remember seeing one anywhere. I don’t THINK it does. Unless it’s under/behind the digital gauge somewhere.
Yes there is one. It is on the left side close to the header down tube.
@@p10dc Awesome! Thank you for the info! Wish I had seen that when I was on the bike!
Just wish the 101 had better paint job. Im a big fan of the solid darker colors.
Better paint job? That paint job is sick lol
How is the acceleration compare to the older harley night rod?
I’ve ridden the night rod. Doesn’t hold a candle to the Indian 101 Scout. This is one of the fastest little bikes I’ve ever ridden for speed and acceleration (excluding actual liter sport bikes of course).
@@MOTOBLADESportster S, even with its horrible design?

Can't wait for aftermarket exhaust! The increase in compression should help.
It will be awesome! Would love it if Vance and Hines made a nice set of pipes for it.
Hey friends
For 5 years I rode the Scout, an amazing motorcycle.
Then I took super chief limited
A powerful and comfortable motorcycle for long journeys, noise, open exhausts of amazing Indain
But I was too heavy over time after two years
I have now purchased the Rogue Scout 2024 but am angry that I saw the new 101
Exactly the perfect motorcycle for me, double disc brakes for safety
A clock face like it needs improved shock absorbers and a lot of power in the engine no more is needed
Friends go on the 101
The 101 scout is an amazing machine! I like the scout rogue as well.
Seems amazing. I don’t like the position of the speedo though.
When I was building out my Iron 1275 bike, I relocated the Speedo using a kit to put it down on the side so it was just visually clean straight up the tank and through the bars. May be something available for this bike in the future - considering how POPULAR this bike is, it bound to get a lot of aftermarket pieces.
That bike is the next segment up from the Nightster. That would go up against the Sportster S.
Video on that bike coming soon! However I would still take the Indian 101 Scout between the two. Just personal preference.
Is the Honda Rebel 1100 considered in a conversation with these bikes or is it in a different category altogether?
Just my opinion here, but I have ridden the Rebel 1100. Didn’t like it for multiple reasons, won’t go into tons of detail here as I already did a whole video on it. I wouldn’t even put it in the same category. For speed/power, handling, comfort, tech, and design (what else is there?) the Indian 101 Scout wins easily.
@@MOTOBLADE Thank you
That's such a beautiful looking bike.
I agree! The red version looks beautiful as well. Indian did an amazing job with this 101 Scout!
Little presumptuous to self proclaim “Ultimate Test Ride Reciew”
Don’t you think!? 😂
It’s pretty cool stuff, but my software might believe in me more than I do😂
What's going to happen when the SUPER CRUISER comes out on the market?
What's going to happen is you'll need a bigger garage to house all these bikes 😀
also being an indian owner ... the heritage of this indian only goes back till 99 victory had a better linage than the hd clone indians. indian was defunct in the 50s, theres no thoughline from the original company till now.
I like the 101 but don't like the price for Indian , a little high 😢 , I'm surprised 🤔
It is a high price but also an amazing bike. They have other versions of the scout with the same engine for less than the 101 trim package.
ok i must admit that acceleration is impressive
I was hanging on tight! 😂 it was so much fun! Indian did a great job on the new 101 Scout.
The new Dyna !!
Possibly! I’d probably go for the scout classic at that point with some bags and taller bars. But they’ve got 5 versions of this new Indian Scout to choose from.
Comparing it to a 975 Nightster isn't right.
Compare it to the 1250cc Sportster
Rode the Sportster S after this. Both fun, but the Indian is far more comfortable, better looking, better tech, and sounds better (just my opinion). Sportster S is no slouch but felt like I was riding on a hard brick compared to the 101 Scout.
The Scout 101 is more comparable to the Sportster S which is a better bike but that being said its a weapon and it really comes down to preference!
Heritage so rich that it’s built in Mexico
Harley has parts made in India. Indian has parts made in one of Polaris' plants in Mexico. Indians come off the assembly line in Spirit Lake, Iowa. You should take a tour of the manufacturing facility sometime :)
You just listed like 15 assembly lines in different countries
The engine looks way different, and in my opinion way better
Still has some styling similarities with the blacked-out look and the 'I' Indian script logo. But overall it was a styling redesign. I agree, it looks great! Indian did a great job on the 101 Scout.
That exhaust looks incredibly ugly. I'll even go with comically hideous with a dash of disgusting.
I don’t dislike it that much, but I admit it’s not my favorite exhaust they’ve ever designed. Now that it’s been out a couple months there are some aftermarket pipes starting to come on the scene.
Scout Classic is still the best looking version. I cant stand the blackout engine on this. It needs to be chrome. The Classic is way better looking
@@stanleymasterson1135 I’ve seen some of the behind the scenes shots from Indian where they were working on the design of this bike. They put in a lot of effort, and it shows. You’re absolutely right, one of the best looking bikes out there!
