    Thanks for the review. I've seen more than enough videos on this Scag and not a single one makes me want to buy one. It's too bad because Orange is my color and most of my equipment is Orange.
    This is like the 2002 BMW 745 when it came out.....a ton of issues -LOL!

    Looks like Honda should be making these commercial grade mowers. My old honda 21 inch always starts on one or two pulls.

    If you are having issues on cold start, put it at full throttle. It should start on first pull. Great video and you’re 100 right/honest on your full review!

      I’ve found this too. Cleaning underneath, I’ve had the mower on its side. The Kohler is a little touchy after resetting it on its wheels- whether hot or cold. So full throttle worked on cold in that case, started right up.

    The little oil leak is coming from teh threads (at least it was on mine) it was serviced under warrantly for free and he put something to seal it? Hasnt been a problem since.

    I have a SCAG tiger cat 2. But I bought a Timemaster 30 inch walk behind. I know the SCAG is better, but it's so heavy. Also I can buy the toro twice for the price. Still love SCAG.

    I had my clutch replaced under wArranty too. Ever since then when I engage the blades it makes a loud squeeking sound that is obnoxious and then stops. Any idea what is causing this?

    I've got the same one, and literally when you say you had a problem at hour 60, I've had the same one within 5 hours of that. Just incredible. I go back and forth with loving and hating this thing. Mine just started leaking oil like yours, and also managed to vibrate the oil drain plug loose at the same time. I've had to lock tite so many different bolts on this thing to stop them coming loose. Wish I had found your video before I bought it! Sadly, I was talking about it with another landscaper locally and he said he's had similar issues with his bigger scag, but somehow it's still better than any other brand he's ever owned. Too bad someone can't make a mower that will last...

    • @davidmorgan9245
      @davidmorgan9245  ปีที่แล้ว

      The leak was coming from the drain plug like yours. I had to cut about 1/8 of an inch of the deck to turn the drain plug an additional 3/4 of a turn. That fixed the leak. I'm at 135hrs and no leak yet!

    How old is your machine now? My clutch just went out at 75 hours on this thing and I wonder if they’ll cover it under warranty. It’s a design flaw, and I’m not about to drop $300 on a new clutch.

  • @briankelley617
    @briankelley617 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So I commented on your part 2. Nice job. My 2022 fixed wheel is a week old now. You're right. The rear baffle is a pain in the ass.
    So, I cleaned out grass and dirt with my fingers, plastic putty knife. But what made the difference, is using a dead-blow hammer underneath to knock the interior-facing wall of the black plastic baffle while the mower was on its side. Dropped the mower back down and wiggled it loose.
    How have you found yours sucking up and bagging leaves? Does it do poorly with wet leaves?
    I tried mine today on a plastic barrel of leaves from last season. Had a lot of rain water in there. They were rotting and stinky. Spread those out. It over-challenged the machine. I spread them out with a blower. Better. But wondering about the leave bagging performance.

    • @davidmorgan9245
      @davidmorgan9245  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't used to for leaf bagging. I didn't have any leaf cleaning jobs. Grass catching is no problem. I had it clog once w/ wet grass, but I think that will happen w/ most machines. I do sharpen my blades every 5 unit hrs

    • @chadsponseller6617
      @chadsponseller6617 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It hasn’t done me well for just sucking up leaves. Leaves have to be in the grass for you to get any up and even then it seems to not want to take the leaves.

    • @briankelley617
      @briankelley617 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chadsponseller6617 Interesting. I went back over the spread out, mostly dry leaves and it sucked them up. It’s definitely touchy with wet stuff. The baffles and housing underneath are prone to gunking up. You like yours overall? 2021 or 2022 model?

    Guys I bought this mower in June of 2021 and mine is having trouble starting at all. It's very hard to pull the cord all though it does pull all the way back. But it's like the machine isn't catching fire or something and I know for sure it's harder to pull start than it should be. Anyone know what might be causing it to be so hard to start. It hardly ever does start. Also my blades engage and do not unengage. Which I believe that's something to do with my throttle cable thingy. Any information on why it might be so hard to pull the cord on my Scag please let me know

    • @harryharry3193
      @harryharry3193 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sounds like your valves need adjustment.

    • @davidmorgan9245
      @davidmorgan9245  ปีที่แล้ว

      I adjusted (loosened) blade engagement cable. That helped me start it when the pull start was stuck.

    • @joshuaturman8603
      @joshuaturman8603 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidmorgan9245 I've actually loosened and tightened it a few times and it's doesn't help it for me unless I'm doing it wrong somehow but I have had an issue to where the blades stay engaged even when I let off the blade engage rail it just keeps spinning. But I've literally loosened it til it's as loose at it gets and still nothing. I'm hoping maybe it'll be the valves need adjustment or something idk. It's sad though because the $2,700 I spent had basically just been sitting for half a year.

Paper work said they adjusted pto to fix the problem, now its in the dealer again for the same problem. I just bought a exmark 30' and will probably be trading the scag in for a ride on..

    I work at a Scag dealer for 26 years...Tested and have driven them ALL all the way back to the SSZ. I think Scag missed the mark on this one. Swivel front wheels would have been a major bonus for one ,and dare I say I think this thing is just too bulky to make it pleasurable to operate. I have to ask our techs,but I think they are having some transmission issues.Hard NO to Kohler. It might be an ok engine but the Courage disasters have turned me off to Kohler for life. Kawasaki should be standard

  • @Zanderthelab

    Your oil leak might be a bad shutoff valve. YOU DO NOT USE ANY TOOLS TO PUT ON AN OIL FILTER!! It only needs to be hand tightened.

    This mower is junk. I bought one in April and it has been NOTHING but problems. I hate it and would never buy a scag again. The best mowers i have ever owned and used for my business with almost zero problems are the Honda HRX 217. They are not commercial but they will outlast this 250 lb POS. My blade clutch just went out at 87 hours. Side chute clasp broke the first week along with the brake. For 3k, i could have bought 3 honda HRX 217s or 2 commercial versions

      I have very little bias with mowers but I do know this isn't representative of SCAG's quality with zero turns, they're very good machines, a little less than x marks, and a very small amount less comfortable, but definitely not uncomfortable, and very high performing. They really haven't mastered the walk behind game just yet. I have noticed the exmark 30 inch is very popular and very well made as well if you're looking for a better commercial mower. Toro has good stuff as well but their 30 inch in particular isn't quite up to snuff. Hope this helps!

      Haha. Yeah, funny. It's like an old Bobcat or Gravely I use to use at a state conservation worker summer job in the 80s. I just bought a 2022 version of this mower- Scag SFC30. Homeowner use. I'm coming from a 2013 Honda HRX217 Nexite-decked, and the fucking Nexite burst a hole in the deck. Hondas work wonderful!- for 5-6 years, and then they're throw-away frauds of a product. Asshole , arrogant, deny-all company, too, to deal with. This machine will be a welcome reversion back to quality and dependability like my other Wisconsin-made 1997 Simplicity snowblower.
