    Really helpful and informative video! Thanks Rob. I bought a whammy ages ago after watching a lot of crazy on stage videos of Jonny Greenwood... I could never get anything cool from it and just randomly used the octave up here and there but this video really helped me to understand and see just how much of a riff machine this pedal can be!

      @@TheGuitarEffect I just picked one up. I came across your video before I plugged it in. Rocking the intervals heel-to-toe on pentatonic scales sounds like a delightful synth/pedal steel hybrid.
      I have young music students who are currently zoned in on OK Computer for some glorious reason. RATM songs have been steady requests and "7 Nation Army" may have surpassed "Smoke On The Water" as the most popular early-learner riff. It'll be cool to integrate this pedal into their sessions and challenge them to get creative with it.
      PS digging your (former?) band's sound. Very Tasty. I'll give it more of a listen after I wrap my brain around all the layers of OK Computer.

      @@TheGuitarEffect Subscribed an look forward to the notification. I now realize that we are approaching the 25th anniversary of OK Computer's release date and we are culturally enveloped in the prognosticated themes of that album. Both of its time and ahead of its time. I understand why it is regarded as our generation's "Dark Side of the Moon", more so with every listen. Also Spotify is probably pushing the album a little harder because of the anniversary date which is OK with me.

    Hi there. I'm late to the party on this video, but I am seriously thinking about getting a V4. I had one for years and used it extensively in my old band. One of the sounds I used the most was the octave up setting but I discovered the Digitech Mosaic, which does that polyphonically, and has it's own magic, so I sold my Whammy. I now deeply regret not having it anymore. One of the things I love is the glitchy quality of the V4. I know the V5 has the old school switch, but people say it's not the same. Thanks for this demo because it has really highlighted what I see as the qualities of the V4 by someone who plays a similar style to myself. I also play for the song and not for the glory. I like your tunes.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey. Thx for the comment. I don’t have mine anymore. I have to sell things on to get funds to buy new things to review. While the V4 would totally be my choice for any whammy stuff I do (nothing can emulate the sound of aa actual whammy) it’s too big to put on any board. So I use the EHX pitchfork plus now. While it doesn’t sound as good as the whammy or the mosaic it does the job perfectly well.
      I think if I was gonna record a whammy sound I’d buy or borrow one of these though.

I started playing guitar when I was 13 and now I'm 45 so I know the original was out early in my playing and either I didn't know what it was or what I would do with it so I never got the original when I should have and could have probably.

    Here's one VERY important thing that took me a while to figure out with this. Make sure that the power supply AND cord aren't anywhere near your guitar cable, and that includes any cables used for your effects loop or any cables in your pedalboard. Otherwise it will add a noticeable hum in your signal. Also, don't plug it into the AC power out on your Voodoo labs pedal power, or any other isolated power supply. Plug into a separate power outlet, or you may get noise.

    I have a question I've been trying to find an answer to, for a while now. I have two identical Whammy 4s that I run together (one for harmonies, one for bends/drops). They were both purchased new, maybe 3-4 years apart. One has a standard 9VAC power adapter. The other has a 9VAC power adapter of the same exact size, but this one has a small port that outputs 3VAC in addition to the normal 9VAC via the plug. Does anyone know what this 3VAC output is for?
    Thanks in advance.

      Hey. I’ve never hear of that before but I’d imagine e it’s for some sort of external MIDI controller. But 3V AC is very odd.

      @@TheGuitarEffect That's what I originally thought too, though for the life of me, I can't find a single one that runs off of 3VAC.

      Mad! Maybe try emailing Digitech. Actually did they go under recently?

      @@TheGuitarEffect DigiTech has been purchased, but I believe the new owners plans to keep running the brand. I'll email them.
      One other interesting thing, is that there are two different DT part numbers for two different power supplies, but photos of neither of them depict a 3vac port, nor does any of the technical literature mention it. Come to think of it, you can only see it from a certain angle, and only on mushrooms... Ok, not those last parts.
      If I find out what it is, I'll come back and post about it.

    watching the videos the whammy 4 seems to sound better than the 5.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. Thx for the comment. I suppose it’s all down to personal taste. To me the whammy is supposed to be glitchy and imperfect. But that’s because of the way players I like use it. Others might really need the polyphonic thing available on the v5.
      I know you can pick up a 4 for a lot less than a 5

    • @ubiratanguimaraes6996
      @ubiratanguimaraes6996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGuitarEffect for me also, the soul of whammy is the glitchy and there is another difference: the V have a less smooth and less wet detune, on V the end of the sound on detune die in a raw way and on IV it dies smooth.

    Turn off the damn delay. Why do reviewers do this?

      Sorry if that made the demo less useful for you. The artifacts sound better with the delay on to me.

      It's a matter of taste. Maybe just how he likes to play. I undertand that it can mask the sound of the pedal he's reviewing, but honestly it doesn't really have much to do with what the pedal can do. I can tell you that I like mine. He does a good job explaining its functions. If you like RATM, well, that's how it sounds. Also Dimebag Darrell would use it to add extreme pitch to his hamonic squeals (play a natural harmonic and pull up the whammy bar and use the Digitech on the octave up setting to boost it into the stratosphere).

    Merry Christmas to you and Happy New year. But I hope that you remember that Jesus is the reason as a season. Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you don't know Jesus Christ is your savior I hope and pray that you accept him as your savior, now today. God bless you very much. Peter
