As someone who was a scare actor for years, I have to say you were my favorite kind of victim. Screaming and laughing at the same time. Much love my friend.
@@ohmigoshness1 you are very welcome. It was the most fun I ever had on a job and I loved hearing the screams. Made me feel like they were getting their money's worth.
That haunted attraction was cool. We need more interactive type experiences like that with no actors. Just places to wander around and look at creepy stuff.
On a very hard day for my family where we awoke to some very shocking sad news, your video is exactly what I need to remember to smile and see that life does go on , even when my heart is broken in a million pieces 💔 . Thank you for being such a HAPPY GO LUCKY DUDE who absolutely pushes past the hard parts of life and allows all of us to giggle or laugh out loud with your antics. Things that go bump in the night dont scare you as much as compressed air blowing your way. I DONT BLAME YOU ❤❤😊
The old Haunted Adventure involved a coffin making company called Grimsby and Streaper, cleverly hiding within the title "Grim Reaper." There was a large creepy elevator that would take you to the top. The whole experience was much darker and a victorian era horror affair that delt with a Jack the Ripper-esque serial killer. Lots of automated scares, and one scare actor that would play multiple roles throughout the house.
You can sort of see where that elevator was on the facade. Also it looks like the golf course used part of the queue you waited in to get on the elevator as well.
One thing I like about carpetbagger is that he doesn't complain. Regardless of the attraction, he finds joy and enjoys the experience. Bc experience is what it's about. The attraction could be mediocre, lame, or awesome and yet he's still gonna enjoy it and get what it gives. It's refreshing to not hear a complainer lol
The use of buttons in the Haunted Adventure is super cool! Reduces the jump scare factor a little bit (you know *something* is going to happen), but it still gets some spooks since you're basically making the audience participate in their own scares. I'd love to see it used at other places.
I do remember when the whole section was the haunted adventure attraction. They used to have an employee stand outside and say things to people walking by trying to get them to do it. I remember this because I had one of them yell out at me one time “you should be out here working instead of me, you have on more makeup than I do.” Fun times 😂
I remember liking the old Haunted Adventure. Also did the old 4 D theater as well as the Mirror Maze which seems like the only unchanged attraction. Also one of the better Ripley’s Odditorium. (My favorite is the defunct Baltimore Inner Harbor location. )
Thanks Jacob for your eternal dedication to showing us those scary dark rides and haunted houses! Loved those places when I was a kid, but now that I'm old all I have to do is watch the news to get scared.
The Gay Dolphin was a family vacation staple and a fond memory of mine. I believe in the 90s, the open center part with the hanging string lights had either oil (or water?) dripping down long wires/string. That place really is unique. I’m glad it’s still around
I remember going there when it was the three story haunted house. You'd see people running on a balcony screaming; it was hilarious. Lol. It was definitely a lot scarier. I loved it. ❤❤I'm so happy to see you doing an early haunt!!!
Not sure if it’s been said but I think you survived because technically you’re not on vacation. Your work just happens to include visiting places and foiling murderers…. Basically 1/5th of mystery inc. Vaca slasher never stood a chance.
Those grab bags from the Gay Dolphin basement were a favorite childhood souvenir! I wish I could step back in time to the Myrtle Beach of my 80s childhood!
We used to go to Myrtle Beach every year when I was a kid. I haven't been since 1996 and at that point the top of the stairs at the Gay Dolphin had already been closed off for a long time. I don't ever remember ever being able to go to the top. My dad said that he had been up there at some point, but was not sure why or when it closed.
As someone who was once in management in the parks industry, most ride operators are instructed not to allow single riders on Ferris Wheels because of safety issues, but that is not the truth. In management they never wanted the operators to know the truth and tell the park goers. In actuality it's about $. If you allow single riders then lines for the rids would be 2 or even 3 times longer along with the wait. This would discourage patrons from entering your park, therefore you're losing money. The question by some is why isn't this allowed when there are very few people waiting? It's for consistency of policy. The same way the speed limit on a highway doesn't change if there is 1 car or 1,000 cars.
In the haunted area you kept missing the secret phases which was the clues he mentioned ..they were all around you. If I could get on a ferris wheel I would but I am like you I walk around parks by myself all the time and can't get on the giant ferris wheel either Oh another reason why in case of emergencies that may cause problems like a panic attack or extreme fear or seizure etcetera, the other people can alert others about what's going on and if your by yourself well unless the instructor that at the bottom see you they will not know what's going on up there.
The haunted attraction there used to just be a walk through with jump scares. People hiding, chainsaw people, compressed air, etc. Nice to see they changed it up to keep it fresh.
If you find yourself on the coast of NC around October I HIGHLY recommend hitting up Nightmare Factory in Havelock. They've got the haunted house, a pitch dark maze many of us won't even go in with the lights on and last year it was voted #1 in the state. There's also a rage room next door though I'm not sure of the hours during Fridays/Saturdays.
No haunted adventure at our Ripleys in OCMD but we DID go one a four hour ghost hunt in ours and i can tell you first hand that the museum is definitely haunted. They probably all are, given the origin of some of the exhibits. Tread safely my friend!
The whole thing has changed at the haunted house. Before it was more cut and paste and you walked across the walk way outside and a guy with a chain saw would follow you out oh it had a lot of air purge scares also walked down steps and rode an elevator to get into it and to change to the next floor the the last floor you took steps. You didnt miss anything
WOW! I was very impressed with the Ripley's Haunted Adventure. I have never seen anything like that and done so well. Its nice to see attractions putting money in to their haunt. That crazy golf place sure puts an interesting twist on mini golf! That looked like a lot of fun. I'm also somebody who has always enjoyed doing things by myself. I love being able to go as fast or as slow as I want without worrying about other people getting bored spending time in front of things that interest me or speeding past things that don't. I think we autistics are much more likely to do things alone because we don't feel the social pressure that neurotypical people feel when they're alone. To them, it often feels weird or uncomfortable or self-conscious or even lonely. Not me. Thinking about pressed pennies in the late 19th century, that would have been a much more expensive souvenir than they are now, almost like destroying a $5 bill for fun (OK, more like about $3.50, if the source I checked is accurate). I love that they're now a small, affordable souvenir!

I feel the same way about the World’s Fairs. I read books and watch every video I can about them, especially Chicago in 1893. Great video!
Stories of the Chicago World’s Fair are fascinating!
The older version of ripleys HA had a very cool clown room and it was alot longer from what i remember and you would enter an elevator
Giant observation wheels like High Roller are designed for multiple parties, so even a solo person would end up with 1-2 other larger parties
I went during the pandemic and it was very slow, they told me for safety reasons I couldn’t ride in my own car and I had to ride with another party
I loooove the idea of a haunted house with an escape room at the end!
