THE DEATH RAILWAY to HELLFIRE PASS! Kanchanaburi to Nam Tok 🇹🇭 Thailand Travel Vlog

- In today's Thailand travel vlog, we start the day by riding the Death Railway to Hellfire Pass to learn more about the tragic events that transpired during the Japanese occupation of Thailand during World War II.
Along the way, we took in the beautiful sights of the River Kwai and the surrounding cliffs at the Wang Po Viaduct before finally arriving in Nam Tok.
We spent hours exploring the Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre and walking along the Memorial Trail before hitchhiking back to the train station to catch our train back to Kanchanaburi.
We highly recommend visiting The Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre and Memorial Walkway, which honors the Australian, British, Dutch, and American prisoners of war and thousands of Asian laborers forced to work for the Japanese to construct the Thailand-Burma Railway during World War II. You can listen to the accompanying audioguide here to learn more: bit.ly/hellfirepass.

It was sad memorial of Greater East Asia War (WW II). The story was true that one railway sleeper cost one of either hiring labor or prisoner of war's life due to lack of food but Malaria was the biggest problem that time. Same as path of journey between Saraburi & Korat in the past. Henri Mouhot, French explorer who found Angkor Wat (Siam colony before French occupation) had described in 1861 as "The Gate Of Hell" cause 9 out of 10 could not get through and died in the jungle. Today we're safe cause scary mosquito is washed away by global warming and medical science.
Yes! The disease was so bad. Some of the images they had at the museum were horrifying! I can only imagine how bad it can be in the dense jungles for all of the insects.
Hello and welcome and Thailand happy beautiful so much.🙏🎊🎉♥️🥰⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

Wow, that would be pretty amazing to travel to all of those countries by train! If only the working conditions had been better for the laborers… 😢
Your video so far so good!

👋☺️ Hello! 🥰🤗 Thanks for watching and supporting!
Hi, Mike & Ashley. I love this! May I ask if there are buses from Hellfire Pass going to Nam Tok station, and from Nam Tok Station going to Kanchanaburi center around 3 in the afternoon? I am planning to go there on the 28th of August (the train arrives in Kanchanaburi at around 12PM and am heading directly to Hellfire, I wonder if there are any transpo going back) Thank you :)
There is a bus that will go from Hellfire Pass back near by Nam Tok station. It’s the same bus we took. You’ll have to plan it well, as it’s a little tight and the schedule is a little inconsistent. The bus pickup location is right in front of the entrance to Hellfire and it will drop you off across the street from Sai Yok Waterfall. As far as back into Kanchanaburi, I’m not 100% sure about a bus as we took the train, but you could ask the bus if they go that far. It’s possible! We hope you enjoy your trip. ☺️
I am from Thailand importantly the chedi Old building was built hundreds of years ago
We plan on going to Kanchanaburi in June. Renting a couple barges and staying on the river. May add the train ride to Nam Tok and back. Thanks for the info.
You absolutely should! It’s such a surreal experience. The train is such a vibe and the ride is absolutely beautiful!
It will take you right to the river accommodations as well, just before Nam Tok.
There was a film based on this rail track I think. Bridge over the river kwai
There was! And another one called Railway Man. Both quite good. Such a sad thing that happened during the construction of that bridge.
Safe travels from Thai people ❤
Thank you! 🤗
Great video !! My great uncle died of dysentery and malaria while building the death railway he is now in the kanchanaburi war cemetery he was only 24
Thank you so much for the compliment. We are glad you enjoyed the video. Sorry to hear about your great uncle. 😕 It was such a tragedy what happened to the people who were forced to work on the Thai-Burma railway. Those conditions seemed awful. We really can’t imagine. Thank you for watching our vlog and supporting. ☺️

Hello! 👋☺️
@@mikeandashley ❤️
🥰🥰
I tried to Google it but can’t figure it out. Where or what’s the name of that specific station where you ride the train at 4AM going to Nam Tok? Is it called Death Railway Station?
It’s just the Kanchanaburi station, right in town. Here is a Google maps link: maps.app.goo.gl/T1G8f1Y1Ev55mv7L7?g_st=ic Hope that helps. ☺️
how tall is mike , he seem taller than the door frame
I am taller than most out here 😅😂 I’m 188 cm tall. ☺️
when was this filmed it doesnt look recent. there is nothing dangerous about this trip i have done it several times
It was filmed towards the end of smoky season, which ran a bit long this year. Though the ride itself isn’t dangerous, the route is considered to be in the top ten of most dangerous railways. Thanks for watching. ☺️
We usually use Bolt or Grab if we can. But now we actually prefer the public busses if we can. It’s such a nice way to see the city and meet lovely people.
This is true, though we have found most people to be very good. ☺️ Luckily 🤞 We haven’t been scammed badly yet!
You go this far and dont want to pay $24!!
That’s half our daily budget. 😅 And it wasn’t a bad walk! 👌
Love this EP
Aw, thank you so much! We’re happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for the support! 🥰🥰
Thank you! 🤗 We love Thai people too! 🥰🥰
Waking up early is the best! We feel so alive when we do. 😊
