I was a Tom Landry-era Dallas Cowboys fan. #15 & his legendary teammates left me crying more times than I care to remember😅.
He & Unitas were definitely my favorite "enemy" QBs. I cannot believe that the funeral for the field general of the greatest team in pro football history is NOT going to be at Lambeau Field. If Yankee Stadium was known as the "House That Ruth Built"... then Lambeau Field no doubt is "The House That Bart Starr Built".
    R.I.P. MISTER Bart Starr
God bless our pro football heroes from a bygone era.🏈

Starr was there with Lombardi from day one, 1958. It paid off. Starr was a working mans quarterback. Nothing flashy, just get it done.

The Ice Bowl QB sneak. Just get it done.

It seems Starr's signature play was when it was 3rd and 1 from his own territory or maybe midfield. The defense would be playing tight to prevent the first down. Countless times Bart would hit a wide open receiver for a touchdown. It seems to me Boyd Dowler was his favorite receiver in those situations, but I'm sure he hit others. I think Bart did that on 4th down a few times, talk about nerve!

Lombardi became head coach of the Pack in 1959, no?

Lombardi took the same players who won 1 game, and made them Champions and Hall of Famers

The story goes that Coach Lombardi challenged them to make the Quarterback Sneak. That legendary play was the only one that won a Super Bowl. Lombardi expected Champions to play like Champions. He thought correctly that if they couldn’t execute the play then they didn’t deserve to win! He was a no nonsense kind of man. Winners Win! Losers Lose! What are you going to be? What category?
    Make up your mind!
Of course, Bart Starr and the front blockers delivered and won the game! This was the first big Victory of many more. Then they repeated the next year!
They were Champions and Bart Starr was a great solid quarterback. I actually don’t remember him throwing any interceptions. He played ball control and handed off the ball a lot as they ran more back then.
And the Packers Sweep play was a joy to behold!
We always used to pretend that we were the Packers when we played touch football 🏈 in the yard. I used to pretend to be Bart Starr. He was a hero of mine. Someone you could model yourself after as a clean living guy who was a winner, too!
So it hurts me to see him go but he gave us all thrilling victories that I will never forget week after week.
Thank you, Bart Starr from the bottom of my heart 👏🏻. I know what greatness is because of you. And Coach Lombardi.
I am crying now because I will miss you. 😭
And another piece of my childhood is gone. 😓
But the Quarterback Sneak play was one of the peaks! Very exciting and thrilling when he made it. I was rooting for him to get in and win. That was a brutal and tough game! The Ice 🧊 Bowl!
    Unforgettable like Starr and Lombardi!
Two legends of NFL Football 🏈
    RIP Starr and Lombardi

I enjoyed your comment about both Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr. However, the Ice Bowl you referred to where Bart made that famous Quarterback sneak was on December 31, 1967 in NFL championship game. I remember watching the game as an almost 18 year old(birthday 1-4, four days later)

I accidentally sent above comment too soon. Super Bowl II was 2 weeks later against Raiders. After beating Raiders, Lombardi stepped down as coach, but remained GM for one more season. Packer players suspected Lombardi was resigning as coach after 67 season. That was the Packers LAST championship until 1996-1997 when they won title with Mike Holmgren and Brett Favre. Lombardi and Starr lost their FIRST playoff game they played in 1960 championship game to Philadelphia Eagles which they almost pulled out at the end. It was also their LAST playoff loss. Packers 60's run was briefly interrupted in 1963 and 64 when they didn't make playoffs. The only playoff game back then was championship game between winners of Eastern and Western conference, unless their was a tie for conference lead. They would then have a play-in game to decide conference(no "tie breakers" back then).

During Lombardi's and Starr's championship run in 60's, they won many playoff games on the road. In those days home field alternated between conferences as opposed to today where it's rewarded by a teams regular season record

@@stephenkammerling9479 just to set the record straight, those Packers lost only one Playoff game, the 1960 NFL championship to Philly. They won all the others.

      The Ice Bowl was not the beginning, it was the end of the Lombardi era - their fifth NFL championship in eight years ( as others have noted, their only loss was to the Eagles in 1960 ) ;
as to the idea they won many road playoff games, I count two ( but it may have been four ) .
Bart Starr played in a different era - quarterbacks were required to be football players, too, and regularly and routinely had their bodies physically broken , and receivers could be 'mugged' by defenders at the line of scrimmage.
Great Respect for Bart Starr. !
