Starr was the best, period. Look at his stats, especially YPA, completion percentage, and the fact that, during their Super Bowl dynasty years, the Packers were more of a passing team than running team. It was Starr. He wasn't flashy, but he did what it took to win. His post-season record is astonishing.
Depends on who you talk too. For many he was overrated due to the Lombardi presence. But Lombardi never played in the NFL. Starr did it under Lombardi's leadership. Coach Lombardi didn't put Starr as the team leader on a whim. He earned it. HOF all time great.
His sheer numbers weren't at the top, but his percentages were. He led the NFL in passing more than anyone but Steve Young. His post-season completion was the best ever - when it counted. He was tough. Bart Starr was probably the greatest QB to date. And a great man, as a bonus.
A great man and player. I had his poster on my bedroom wall as a youth. The accomplishments of the players will grow pale as the game and time keeps moving forward just like it did for the likes of Jim Thorpe, Red Grange, Bronco Nagurski etc., but they will never be forgotten.
Im sad at hearing of Bart Starr's dead. He and my dad we're boyhood friends. My dad was 3 years older than he was, and my dad always claimed that he actually showed Bart how to throw a football, when dad was 13.
Starr/Lombardi. Bradshaw/Noll. Brady/Belichick. Would any of the six of these have gone anywhere without their counterparts? Lombardi, *maybe.* Goes to show how great coaches and great QBs depend on each other.

The ultimate greatness of Bart Starr was not his quarterbacking, though he was great; his ultimate greatness was his leadership and humanity.
great player, great human-being. rip 😔

Bart Starr was my childhood hero....did anyone else read the book "Bart the Cool" ?
Yes, I did. I still have my dog eared copy with crib notes in it.
Bart Starr Have the 2nd Highest QBR in PostSeason History at 104.8
He mentioned Lombardi and Starr, Belichick and Brady, you can throw Noll and Bradshaw in there as well.
Montana and Walsh.
The list is missing " 3 straight championships " . and a finer man there has never been.
Mark&Nan I can't believe how the threepeat gets pushed aside. (At least Chris mentioned it in this video, but I think he's the only one.)
He was a VINCE LOMBARDI student.
