Happy Birthday Phil Collins. One of the Greatest Musicians of all time. Phenomenal voice and then some. Thank You Phil and God Bless You. Much Love and Respect from New Mexico 2025
Today 3-01 -2024 I heard Phil just performed a goodbye concert to his fans he looked so frail and thin. I grew up listening to genesis and him solo. This song always stood out. It still socially relevant.
Literally, One of Phil's most underrated work, and tracks. Amazing how time flies, and how this song never gets old. Long live Phil Collins, a legend forever. A true inspiration, and what a legacy. 👑👑👑
Heard this song when the album was released and I was 14 years old. Commandeered the LP from my Dad and never gave it back because of this song. Still gets me even today so many years later.
Miami Vice and Cold Case scored major episodes with this track, it is still a masterpiece. I used it in for key scene in a script writing classes and with little dialogue, this did it conveyed emotion and backstory for the character and explained her actions in the scene.. It has that timeless ability to move audiences and convey emotion to all ages. Prayers sent to Phil Collins.... Your music has moved generations.
I can still see the lights reflecting off Crockett's Daytona Spyder replica. 13 year old me wanted that car something fierce. We all thought Fonzi was the epitome of cool at the time. Then Miami Vice introduced us to Crockett and Tubbs. Cool and drip has never been the same since.
I hope you've taken time to explore the rest of his catalogue. For me, a number of his best songs were never released as singles, or were B-sides to his other hits.
Without a doubt. The best of the best could take social issues and make them top 10 hits. Unfortunately, this song is as true today as it was the day he wrote it, except I think the road has gotten a little longer...
Phil I'm sending prayers and healing to you. Please remember you've touched so many lives with your beautiful music. You are the greatest of all times. We love you 💞
Phil Collins is a legend. He kept Genesis on the map all whilst building a massively successful solo career. Long Long way to go is as relevant today as the day he wrote it...
Phil is definitely a legend, however, Genesis kept Genesis on the map. Phil contributed to Genesis as well as Mike and Tony! Totally different sound and band. Just like Mike did with the Mechanics.
This was the first album I ever bought in my life. I was 12 and listened to this album repeatedly. This song in particular was my favorite. Thanks Phil !
My mom got this for me when I was 6 & Also listened to it till I wore that cassette out! From then became a Collins, then Genesis fan to this day! Thanks Mr. Collins!
My father brought me up listening to Phil and I had the privilege of seeing him perform in London on my 25th Birthday, such beautiful music made by a LEGEND
This song made the loss felt by Ricardo Tubbs felt so real, shattering heart. And it also made how pure and genuine the sincerety from his colleagues, especially Sonny Crockett.
This is pure genius. Haunting music and the message is more relevant now, than it was in the 80s. Considering how far we should've come and haven't. Which is the sign of a quality song writer. Plus Sting's voice is perfect for it too. These types of artists don't exist now.
First time hearing this masterpiece is on "Cold Case Season 2 : Mind Hunter". What an enchanting song. Phil is a legendary wordsmith, writer, performer, and arranger.
I was 21, living out in my own, young, lost and unhappy. Played this song on my record player in my little, dimly lit bedroom as I laid on the bed. I still remember.
Perhaps the most primo harmony I have ever heard and a great reason why I have this ditty on loop, especially how the song builds up to it, in addition to the sustaining intense echo of those voices afterwards.
Using this song was an incredible way to end the season. Miami Vice was doing things back in the 80s and taking risks that TV does now on a regular basis.
This song is helping me cope with seeing the havoc in Los Angeles right now... I feel somehow comforted by these words. My mental state is bothered by all I see everyday - the homeless wandering, the crime, the hurt, the lies of the politicians.... long looooong way to go...
We Can't Dance tour was the last I saw Genesis. Saw Phil the next year, Both Sides tour. Not again till last October in Denver, Still not Dead yet tour Fantastic concert!
I saw a Phil Collins at the Irvine Amphitheatre in Irvine California 36 years . We had third row, center seats. It was one of the best nights of my life. I love his music.
I was introduced to this song on the soap opera Days of our Lives. They played all kinds of Phil Collins tunes. Memories of the 1980's. I can't get enough!
Music doesn’t get better than this, Phil and Sting harmonise so well together. The nostalgia hits so hard listening to this song. Thank you for all the music Phil, your solo work and Genesis are some of the best music ever.
I was a fan of Phil Collins since I was 13 years old when he was with “Genesis”. I had bought his solo albums when I was stationed in Germany (West Germany). I still have his albums almost 40 years later. His music is mesmerizing…
First heard this track in Miami Vice, amazing addition to a fantastic TV soundtrack. Love Sting's backing vocals. No Jacket Required is still one of my all time favorite albums. Phil, your cameo in Miami Vice was golden, great use of Brit profanities, makes me laugh even today..
Super dark cut classic. Mystical. Sting's vocals are magical and soaring. Christopher Lee who lol? Leland Sklar looks like a wizard and IS a wizard on the creative approach to the bass lines.
This was his best album. The first time I heard this song it brought tears to my eyes. Made me very sad. It is true how people "turn it off" and look the other way. There are so many homeless, aching souls. I dont know why the majority of people overlook them when uplifting them is the easiest thing to do in this world. That is why we're here, to help one another. God blesses us so we can bless others.

I'm 53 yrs old, an I must be honest, the 80's had the best variety of great music, long live the 80's

I disagree. The 70s was the best decade for music IMHO.

Happy Birthday Phil Collins. One of the Greatest Musicians of all time. Phenomenal voice and then some. Thank You Phil and God Bless You. Much Love and Respect from New Mexico 2025
You know you've made it when Sting does backup vocals on your album
I thought the whole time that I hear Sting. So I was not wrong with my belief. He is my favorite singer of all time.
Phil Collins already made it when he was the drummer for Genesis, which was even before Sting and the Police.
Correct....@@OVI-Wan-Kenobi-8
In all fairness, he did steal that trick from Dire Straits😂
OMG !!! I NEVER KNEW STING DID THE BACKGROUND VOCALS!!!😳😳😳😳
My mom just passed away yesterday. I've been listening to this over and over. My way of coping I guess.

still fresh That Sound, in 2023
The use of this song in Miami Vice turned what was an excellent, yet sad season finale into a powerful season finale. Way way ahead of its time.
Indeed. Believe me when i say that this sadness i can feel so far and still lingers
It also was on Cold Case 💞
Very true
Good episode.

During 35 years same feeling😅❤
I hope you've taken time to explore the rest of his catalogue. For me, a number of his best songs were never released as singles, or were B-sides to his other hits.
This, to me, is the best song on this album. Love Sting's background vocals.
If you're not haunted by this song, something is wrong with you. This is Phil at his best and a master song writer.

Classic Phil when he's deeply locked in!!!! His tone is memorizing to say the least!!! The drums bring it home to me
