Phil Collins was rare because he could write super dark, powerful, sad, and angry songs. But then also chill and playful songs as well. I can see why a lot of metal heads loved him.
I really love this song, unfortunately I'm going through a strong depression and I don't feel like doing almost anything, I say almost precisely because in these sad and dark days this song is perhaps the only thing that is cheering me up, mainly because of the lyrics that say that the Sometimes it's worth it to just not care anymore, I don't speak English I'm using the translator to communicate and music really is a universal language, thank you Phill for making my days happier in this very difficult time.❤
Hang in there, it's ok, I have a spiritual side also, you can't have good without evil and you can't have evil without good, hence, there will good days a long w/ bad, just hopefully the good days totally outweigh the bad days but bad will happen, just believe, keep positive as much as you can, the rest will happen😉

"I don't care anymore" and "Do you know do you care" are without a single doubt two of the best songs from his entire work. I mean...the energy. The way he sings those two songs. So powerful. Actually the whole "Hello..." album is amazing. We always tend to talk only about "You can't hurry love" but there are truly gems on this album such as "Thru these walls". What a song. Not to mention "The west side". "I cannot believe it's true" it's probably the best "Phoenix Horns'" song of his entire career. And the last song of the album "Why can't it wait 'til morning" is for sure one of the most beautiful tunes I have ever heard. I just learned that song on my piano.
I wasn't going to sign back in here anymore but I couldn't pass by this comment and not say something. You are, without a doubt, 100% correct. I would add Take Me Home as a trilogy of his greatness, but this song and Do you know, do you care could be the only 2 songs left on earth and I would completely (ironically) happy.
I remember the first time I heard this song, I was a kid and watching David Copperfield do some kind of trick with swords, but all I could concentrate on was this amazing song. I'm glad I could find it again after all this time! Still love it, still amazing!
I must admit I cried to this song, that guy had an opportunity to not do what he did, his own mind played him and he didn't fight back... and innocent people had to pay the prize for a battle that was only in his head. People please take care of your mental and physical health, search for good environments and do not fall in isolation.
If you are referring to the perspective of the "guy"who wrote the lyrics, it was Phil Collins. It was in reference to his wife, with whom he was going through a divorce from when he wrote the lyrics of this song. I hope that you do realize that evil charlatans exist in this world and they are masters at winning people over. Their intentions were never good, on any level. If it involved getting out of a marriage/relationship they laid the groundwork, ahead of time, with people about how their situation "took place". These charlatans never reveal the same darkness to the people that they win over. Because they are evil and emotional chameleons. The world loves evil people because most of the world is evil in it's own way. Two of a feather flock together. If someone, who's faulted but truly good hearted, does not use the same tactics as the charlatan, they don't initially realize how or why people generally believe the charlatan. They believe that they were put through the same monstrous behavior that they endured. Yet, the charlatan never revealed that side to everybody so they take the bait and swallow the lie. This is the main reason that I can't stand being around most people anymore. Because they say they can see but are in fact blind to the truth. The truth is what it is.
