    A big difference between MMA (and a lot of martial arts) - is that in MMA you're trying to win; not kill, maim, or paralyse someone.

      sorry,,this is just my own opinion.. traditional marital art ,back on the old days,, is not for recreation or sport or even business.. it's for defense and kill,, yes KILL,,and total outlaw,, although its has health benefits too. .
      MMA, JKD is base own TMA too.. IN my country, if you kill someone with bare hand even for self defense,,you will end up in jail..and authority don't care weather you're MMA or TMA expert..

I don't think that's something he'd demonstrate with anyone, but Okinawan Goju Ryu is friggin deadly, they train to control, knockout, maim or kill, and it's about bringing power to the vulnerable parts of the body, precisely and with conviction.

      Scott Humphreys I play Wutan Kung Fu, i.e. Tang Long Quan, Chang Quan, and Baji Quan. I started in Shorin Ryu at age eight, I have never lost a fight in my life. I only fight to protect others and myself, I consider a push an attack, so me being a "pretty boy", I got it a lot. I really hurt my school bullies, I broke one guys arm by a joint lock. I cut the others up bad on their faces. Then my mom's ex-boyfriend was cool for years, then started doing drugs and became an asshole, then he was verbally abusing my little sister, so I told him he has to leave. Well he came at me and he ended up getting lots of stitches on his face. Then he came back, said sorry, and did it again, the same thing again but this time he lost sight in one eye by cracking his retina. It does work if you play it for long hours each day. My two knuckles on each hand got real sharp from hitting bags and rope boards, they cut up their faces.

    • @darrenelliottfrancis
      @darrenelliottfrancis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think there is a better, they are different. Aikido developed out of ju-jitsu where the main emphasis is on defending against one opponent armed with a blade. All karate forms are based on defending against multiple opponents. This is why karate spends little or no time on the ground.

      Karate is ancient mixed martial arts. Yes look like aikido, yes look like kung fu, yes look like muay thai, yes look like silat, yes look like judo etc. Okinawa was banned to carry a weapon, even king's guards have to guard a king without weapon, the only weaponless king guards in the world. Thus they have to learn empty hand fighting to survive with any daily tools.
      all nations in south and east asia influenced okinawan by trade, China, Thailaind, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philipines, etc including dance and music instruments too.

      Todd Lindsey u don't need to grab the arm. Just like any animal who has strong grip, don't need to wait for arm to extend out to grab, just go in for neck, pull hair, twist head, grab the shoulder joints, dig ur fingers into the rib cages, etc...u would have to experience it to understand better how dangerous someone with strong grip n fingers is

With his hands he can sink his fingers into litterally any muscle tissue. Well only if it's a really strong man with bodybuilder constitution, then he will have to chose a softer spot which wouldn't be a trouble for him.

      Nerves are still nerves.. there is also a spot in your forearm that if pressed hard enough will send a shooting pain, if you're caught in a head lock. I'm sure a pressure point in your foot gets crushed and it'll stop you, or at the least temporarily destroy your balance.

      well ... you are looking at things through 21st century eyes. You have to remember that the "formation" into specific styles happened in early 20th century. They were preserving techniques of fighting from 19th, 18th, 18th and so on self-defense. You know, like when farmers were attacked by bandits on their way to market. When the chances of highway robbery was like 80%. Big caravans hired muscle just like armored trucks do today. This is why martial arts are just that - an "art". Now what I have also cried BS on is the whole certify through some empty-squat "our way the only way" organization. Many, if not most MMA fighters today got tired of that too.
