Taking the Top Lid off a 55 Gallon Oil Drum with an Angle Grinder Easy

  • All you need is an Angle Grinder with a 1/4 thick Metal Cut-off wheel. Grind around the seam and hammer the lid to separate the seam. Make sure the insides of the barrel have been cleaned from any residue before attempting this.
This works because the lid and the sides are folded over each other to create an air tight seal. Grinding the seam separates the lid from the rest of the barrel.
You can now use your new drum as a fire barrel just drill holes to allow air flow. You can also use it for storage container, or a compost bin. There are hundreds of uses for these barrels.
Post in the comments below what you guys would use it for! Thanks for watching!

Brake cleaner and steel wool for the stubborn spots will get all the residue out. As for doing it before taking the top off, it'll be very difficult. Once it's used for an oil barrel it's tough to really keep anything in it without it taking the oil smell. If you're worried about flammable vapors, just leave the cap off for a couple days and let it air out before you cut the top off. If you want to be REALLY safe, fill it with water. Just bear in mind it's going to be super heavy and disposing of that oily water responsibility may be difficult.

Must be Parliament Light 100. They have charcoal and recessed filter. Only way it’ll work.

A grinder is 1 of the most dangerous tools for a person who has never used 1!!! Plz watch a safety video on proper handling of a grinder before attempting to use ✌

@@S4R1 never use a damaged cutting disc or grinding disc!Always direct sparks away from flammable things and yourself! Always use eye and face protection! Wear tighter fitting clothing and watch loose fitted clothing while operating! Let the tool do the work !!!! You don't have to use a lot of pressure or force!! And there are lots more but these are a few I've learned over the year's. I've seen many grinder accidents and have witnessed clothing ripped off people because it was too loose. ALWAYS HAVE A FIRM CONTROL OF YOUR GRINDER AND LEAVE THE GUARDS ON!!!! hope this helps some new ppl to the grinder ✌

@@HowToDoThings. thanks so much for taking the time to teach me something. I admit I'm pretty new to a grinder, I will follow your advice. My new grinder still has the guard, I won't take it off. Good advice.

Just did four barrels yesterday. Only disc's I had were cut-off type, so I ruined a few. It works!
