Thanks Andy for including an interview with Mr Ruddy. My son and I were fortunate to play there last week and you captured the essence of the course and Pat perfectly. It is truly a great course and I was exhausted after walking it, mentally and physically
In 1994 my wife and l had our honeymoon in wicklow. We turned up on the off-chance for a game of golf at the European club and booked a tee time and played the absolutely stunningly beautiful european course. As i understand it hadn't long been built. When we finished we ordered a meal in the bar. Pat Ruddy came over to us and asked were we on honeymoon as we had told the lady when we checked in. He not only gave us our greenfee back, but the guy who he was having dinner with and who was the course photographer paid for our meals. We were overwhelmed by the kindness shown to us on that day. The Irish hospitality shown to us on our honeymoon was amazing. We just had our 30th anniversary, so when this video randomly popped up on TH-cam it was a joy to see pat ruddy talking about what he had created.
We’ve seen some beautiful courses on your channel, Andy, but this is a jaw dropper.
I've watched you for years And, and have never heard you quite so enamoured with a golf course before. Even by the 2nd hole, I knew we were going to see something special. The videography and all the images (both Andy and Tracy) are stunning. Could a golf course, any golf course, be any better? Thanks for highlighting this one. If I make it to Ireland, and can only play one course, this will be it. I think Mr Ruddy has achieved everything he set out to, with the European Club. He should be very satisfied with life. I was going to say "proud", but I suspect Pat would dismiss such a sentiment.
What a lucky guy you are Andy, and what a joy and privilege to meet and spend time with Mr Ruddy who sounds like such a lovely gentleman. Sometimes a golf course doesnt need any words...it's beauty speaks for itself!! Lucky to have played it a couple of times over the years. Easily a 10/10 experience!! Brilliant vlog Andy.....as for the photos....easy....ALL OF THEM👏👏👏👌👌👌
Andy, thanks for allowing me to relive my round there in 2017. The course is indeed as beautiful as you filmed it. I was also able to meet and speak with Mr. Ruddy and he followed us out to the first tee to look at our tee shots. What a great and humble man who has created a masterpiece. I Would add this, whatever the price to play, it is worth the magnificent walk and experience.

Glad you liked it Andy. It really is something else. I played there in late 2006 as part of a 36 hole day - Druids Glen in the morning then 30 mins in the car to the European Club in the late afternoon. A stunning course - I still rave about it nearly 18 years later. Some quirks like the 2 extra holes, both cracking par 3’s. The green which is over 120 yards front to back (13th maybe?). One thing for sure if you go in a bunker you need to play well to get it out - you don’t want the ball coming back at you of the sleepered faces.
I would go back there in a heartbeat. And it’s in Wicklow where my mums side of the family originated.

I really loved the gentleman's perspective about golf courses bering like a work of art (the camerawork and music really did this justice!!). Hope I can remember this the next time I go to the course.

Once again Andy, you have produced a brilliant video. Only an Irishman could make the reason, for a golf course so easy, then design, build and run as if it was a back garden! As to the course itself, what a stunning spot and your production was excellent. You ask pick a best photo and I simply can't, it's like pick your favourite child.

A brilliant video Andy and what a stunning course and place. As you said, not really 'off the beaten track', but a great one to see and I'd love to be able to go there and play it one day. The design is just amazing. You clearly enjoyed yourself and played really well - your short game was on it!! Photo wise, Andy d or Tracy g for me, couldn't split them!👍
Lucky to play there back May 98! Been on a week's golfing trip playing courses around the Limerick/Tipperary area and on the way back to getting the ferry we dropped in, on the off chance we could be allowed get 9 holes in, before we (really) had to leave for the boat, went into the Pros Shop explained our situation and he said, of course lads go out and play! But insisted we didn't pay, what hospitality!
We managed to play 12 holes and to this day keep threatening to get back there to play the whole course and what a course!

WHAT a course!! It was hard choosing a photo there were 5 or 6 six amazing pics. I think Tracy e is my favorite but I could swap that with several others.

Hello Andy. What an amazing course. I believe one of the best that you have visited. Speaking of landscapes and golf courses being a work of art. The last golf course that Tom Weiskopf designed before his death was Black Desert Resort in St George Utah (Ivins Utah).
The Black Desert Championship, a Professional Golf Association (PGA) TOUR FedEx Fall Cup event, will take place at Black Desert Resort in St. George, Utah in fall 2024. Please search for this golf course and you will be blown away. This course is less then 10 minutes from my home. St George is a short 2 hour drive north on Interstate 15 from Las Vegas Nevada. If you make it to Vegas, it is worth the drive to play it.

Andy really enjoyed the video and Pat is indeed a card, funny after a period of living in Dublin this would remain down my list of all the links courses in Ireland I would choose to play, glad I did on a couple of occasions but that was plenty. Personal choice as always, keep up the great work.

Looks amazing. But I’m not a fan of sleepers in the bunker faces. For one, they are downright dangerous if you thin one trying to get out of the bunker - they can come right back at you at speed. Secondly, I once hit a face in a green side bunker, so literally missed the green by a few feet, but my ball ended up ricocheting off the sleepers to about 40 yards away.

Looks like they should have a little hut or shop selling golf balls. I am sure I would lose so many there.
